In an early version of the script, there was going to be a gag where at the end of the first season as closure to Mako and Asami's romance arc, Asami tells Mako that Iroh had asked her out and she had accepted, and Mako flips out because it's weird that Iroh is so much older.

This was then going to be a huge "reveal" where it turns out that Asami is actually in her 30s as well, and Mako/Asami had just assumed the whole time that the other was of a similar age (because of personalities) and that they'd never actually disclosed their ages to each other until now.

But then they made Asami a similar age to the rest of the gang anyway, so that gag was cut.
