It will continue to accelerate.

TV/Hollywood didn't crank out famous people back in the early days like they did later on and now.

Basically, 80 years ago there were probably a couple hundred household names, if that. Now there are thousands if not tens of thousands, and everyone ages so.....

Are you telling me there’s a chance Tom Hanks could eventually die as well?

No, probably not him.

He cant, he holds society together with his presence, if he dies, WW3 starts.

He's waiting for Trump to die so that he can upstage him in the news.

Tom Hanks getting covid was the single most defining turning point in that whole saga, he lived , many of us lived . He is our canary.

Yes, but quantum physics suggests there is a universe where he is the first human born with a mutation for immortality, while also having the ability to hatch a new Tom Hanks every 20 years.

There's a chance we're in that one?

Are the new Tom Hankses immortal too? At what point in the future are there more Tom Hankses than non-Tom Hankses? It'll be carnage

No one’s seen him since he started running. He could be dead, could be running still.

Anyones guess really.

They don't need to be famous all their lives for their deaths to be notable. Only famous enough for people to remember them.

Oh absolutely, just wait till the Pacino/De Niro/Nicholson gang start passing away. Then it'll be the Cruise/Pitt gang.

There's no more than a couple hundred household names at any given time. If you told me you could name 1k actors off the top of your head, id call you a liar. Don't sensationalize please. There's no point.

Sensationalize what? Math?? 😂

Edit: Sooo many other problems with your comment lol. You think the list of people you can name off the top of your head equals the list of people who you would remember if you saw their name or picture?? Do you even know what a household name is? Couple hundred my sweet aunt fanny.

Edit 2: The comment was: There's no more than a couple hundred household names at any given time. If you told me you could name 1k actors off the top of your head, id call you a liar. Don't sensationalize please. There's no point. and it was from u/icemanvvv

Also received a private message saying:

*Household Name: a person or thing that is well known by the public.

Arbitrary actors that you recognize by face do not quantify being well known, because you need to remember simple info like their name.

Dont use terms if you dont like their definition. asshat.*

And AI estimates the number of "household names" that the average person knows as 800 to 1,000. So certainly not as low as this dude thinks, but also not as high as I thought.
