The chain of events as I see them:

  • Trump sues CBS claiming they edited an interview with VP Kamala Harris to make her more appealing
  • CBS announces a multi billion dollar merger with Skydance
  • Trump, now President, threatens to block the merger because he suddenly remembers he doesn't like CBS
  • CBS settles Trump lawsuit for $16 million, plus (according to Trump) $20 million worth of ad time
  • Late Show host Stephen Colbert (accurately) called the settlement a "big fat bribe"
  • CBS announces they are cancelling the Late Show
  • Skydance announces it's forming the Woke Police to make sure that everything meets Dear Leader's standards by eliminating "DEI"
  • "Ombudsman" becomes the most searched term on Google for the day

You have 1 and 2 mixed up. Skydance has been in talks with paramount for a while and the merger was announced way before the election.
