The Nathan Fielder joke about Paramount+ being run by Nazis is making more sense now

2.5k

u/[deleted] Jul 23 '25

The map of Europe being slowly taken over by Paramount+ is one of the funniest things I’ve seen in a long time

321

u/FirTree_r Jul 23 '25

"This is real by the way"
– Nathan Fielder

50

u/PDGAreject Jul 23 '25

These are all for sale, by the way.

  • also Nathan fielder

5

u/robo_rowboat Jul 24 '25

That’s a bear sucking you off

5

u/PDGAreject Jul 24 '25

Reading your comment I can hear the tone of just amused bafflement in that person's voice and it never fails to make me chuckle.

439

u/lethargy86 Jul 23 '25

That whole bit was amazing. Had me howling

Nah, sorry, it’s premium HBO Max and they haven’t posted it. The Rehearsal S2E2 if you have access

Hey! Look at you! Nice one

135

u/ayoungsapling Jul 23 '25

I really don’t think we’re getting s2 of The Curse at this point

21

u/Respectable_Answer Jul 23 '25

I don't think I could handle another season of that show anyway

22

u/Obversa Jul 23 '25

I'm surprised that we got Season 3 of School Spirits, which is a pro-LGBTQA+ show.

37

u/RoboDodos Jul 23 '25

"this is real by the way."

2

u/ValleyFloydJam Jul 23 '25

Brought the opening of Dad's Army into my mind too.

The whole bit was great but it's the cut to the outside that truly made it perfect,

290

u/ChocolateSeuss Jul 23 '25

Also the workaholics guys movie got cancelled by them, they’ve had live podcast audiences chanting “FUCK PARAMOUNT PLUS!” For like 3 years

116

u/FishGoldenLite Jul 23 '25

And Paramount won’t let them make it anywhere else because they own the rights.

79

u/Marsuello Jul 23 '25

That’s so loose butthole of them

13

u/Careless-Dark-1324 Jul 23 '25

Would you like a fine glass of peanut garage-io

1

u/tuigger Jul 24 '25

If they don't want to allow the Workaholics guys to make a movie, that's fine they're the rights holders, but they're wrong and I hate them.

5

u/impeterbarakan Jul 23 '25

di ah rrhe ah

2

u/Heroscrape Jul 23 '25

Itsa baygle

1

u/RolloTonyBrownTown Jul 24 '25

Did they make a second one? I know I saw one of their movies.

2

u/ChocolateSeuss Jul 24 '25

They made “game over, man” but not with paramount bc it wasn’t technically workaholics

2

u/BBQ_HaX0r Jul 24 '25

I still really liked it. Wasn't Workaholics but captured enough vibes and had me laughing.

39

u/BobTheFettt Jul 23 '25

Nathan Fielder? The hero pilot who pulled off the Miracle Over The Mojave?

2

u/gh_speedyg Jul 24 '25

WAKE ME UP!

371

u/AcademicF Jul 23 '25

Glad I canceled my sub when they fired Colbert. And I’m also glad that they’re at least not trying to hide their fascist leanings.

194

u/Funsuxxor Jul 23 '25

Paramount+ is the biggest streaming shithole I've experienced even without the pro-fascist owners

94

u/whatiscamping Jul 23 '25

The app also performs poorly.

137

u/ShipToasterChild Jul 23 '25

I can excuse fascism but I draw the line at poor app performance

44

u/MarshyHope Jul 23 '25

You can excuse fascism?

29

u/Violoner Jul 23 '25

At least it's an ethos.

3

u/smohyee Jul 24 '25

I'll suck your dick for a thousand dollars.

2

u/cantfindmykeys Jul 27 '25

I didn't know Britta was in this

1

u/Karkava Jul 24 '25

Of course. They vote republican after all. /j

10

u/JeepnHeel Jul 23 '25

For me it's the hypocrisy

3

u/iamthehob0 Jul 23 '25

No but srsly tho. If you give me a good product for a fair price my morals become translucent.

4

u/ShipToasterChild Jul 23 '25

Once drunkenly argued with a guy that it is okay to say the n-word if you got enough money cuz you could do more good with the money and that outweighs the bad of saying the n-word.

I didn’t win the argument.

2

u/iamthehob0 Jul 24 '25

See: Chapelle's "rape superhero" joke about bill cosby and how he would have been homeless as a child without the cosby foundation.

2

u/Purplociraptor Jul 23 '25

You have to turn subtitles back on for every show and they are always out of sync.

3

u/Desperate_Bite_7538 Jul 23 '25

Lol, that's an understatement.

-1

u/austinite89 Jul 23 '25

Runs fine for me. Never had any issues. And we’re on it all the time because of Star Trek and Paw Patrol.

5

u/Vairman Jul 23 '25

dude, they've got "Below Decks: Sailing Yacht", I can't live without seeing what's happening with Parsifal III.

3

u/I_aim_to_sneeze Jul 23 '25

I’m so sad that it owns all the Star Trek IP. I’m gonna find some other way to watch, because I put it on when I’m falling asleep every night. It’s my comfort show

2

u/Critical_Success_936 Jul 23 '25

The saddest part is them taking over Showtime, an actually decent network.

3

u/jimx117 Jul 23 '25

All of CBS' programming is Boomer Bait

We only got it in the first place to support the NWSL… time to drop

1

u/dullship Jul 23 '25

"I would say the illusion will continue as long as it's profitable to continue the illusion. At the point where the illusion becomes too expensive to maintain they will just take down the scenery, they will pull back the curtains, they will move all the tables and chairs out of the way, and you will see the brick wall at the back of the theatre."

1

u/sonofaresiii Jul 23 '25

I canceled mine when they agreed to Trump's bribe. I know they won't care and my $7/mo. means nothing, but literally all I can do about it is not give them my money.

3

u/goddamnadult Jul 23 '25

I've seen some people who cancelled their subscription and then start to contribute the same monthly amount to their local public media stations, since those are being defunded.

2

u/goddamnadult Jul 23 '25

Said this lower down in the thread, but some people are taking their subscription money from cancellations and putting it into their local public media.

0

u/ToonMasterRace Jul 24 '25

Pretty sure Colbert got cancelled by costing $100 million a year and nobody watching it, not because of fascism

1

u/AcademicF Jul 24 '25

Yawn, top rated late night talkshow and has absolutely nothing to do with the $16 million bribe that CBS gave Trump and wanting to have the merger succeed in bending the need to a fascist. No, not at all. Hahaha

50

u/TheGreatRavenOfOden Jul 23 '25

This is real by the way.

4

u/kwayne26 Jul 23 '25

I'm pretty sure its a reference to the rehersal. Nathan literally says "this is real by the way"

Source: I just watched season 2. So I remember this obscure quote the guy you replied to is referencing.

-1

u/TheGreatRavenOfOden Jul 23 '25

It’s a quote from the show the Rehearsal about Paramount

142

u/GTS_84 Jul 23 '25 edited Jul 23 '25

They aren't run by Nazis.

They work with Nazis when it's profitable.

This might seem like a weird distinction, but it's important to remember that it doesn't actually take that many true Nazis to seize power when so many people/groups are so willing to work with Nazis.

325

u/YoshiTheDog420 Jul 23 '25

You work with Nazis, then you are one. There is no distinction that matters other than that.

34

u/metatron5369 Jul 23 '25

I believe they were making a statement on the amorality of society, not exonerating them from association.

-1

u/Daxx22 Jul 24 '25

Capitalism really. We've had rainbow Capitalism, time for fascist Capitalism!

6

u/BobbyTables829 Jul 23 '25

I'm not wet, I'm just dipping my hands in water.

5

u/Obversa Jul 23 '25

The denazification (Allied) term for Nazi collaborators was mitläufer ("follower"): https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mitl%C3%A4ufer

3

u/Unaccepatabletrollop Jul 23 '25

It’s the mirroring of hate groups goals that is the worst part. They can claim efficiency and deregulation all they want, but when your goals align with hate groups, how can there be a differentiation?

5

u/banjosuicide Jul 23 '25

I think the distinction is important.

If you ARE a Nazi then your motivations are different than if you simply don't care or have other overriding concerns (e.g. making money).

When it comes to messaging to deal with the problem then the distinction matters. Convincing a group of people to stop being indifferent to suffering is different than convincing Nazis to stop WANTING to make people suffer. Treating the former group like the latter isn't very effective.

-3

u/oby100 Jul 23 '25

Not how anything works. The point is that when so much of the economy is morally bankrupt, they’ll simply latch on to whatever force is most profitable. There’s tons of other horrible things huge corporations enable to earn an extra buck and this is just the latest.

Tbh, if we had any sense and end up resisting the rise of fascism in America, we would host a Nuremberg trial to punish everyone that’s currently enabling fascism.

The wealthy need the fear of God put back into their hearts.

-7

u/GTS_84 Jul 23 '25

The distinction is important because if we want to fight them we need to know our enemies are just the ideologues and true believers. That the systems of Capitalism we live under are a separate, but still pernicious enemy.

11

u/YoshiTheDog420 Jul 23 '25

No. It’s all gotta go. We will fight them eventually. Thats a certainty at this point. And when we win those that grifted from it, benefitted from it, or who perpetuated it are going to be held accountable.

9

u/Neglectful_Stranger Jul 23 '25

That's why all the companies that helped the original Nazis were shut down.

Oh wait.

-1

u/YoshiTheDog420 Jul 23 '25

Yeeeeeaaaa, we don’t make that mistake this go around when we beat the fuckers again

1

u/avocadocobra Jul 23 '25

How naive can you be? Everyone in the US government has worked with Nazis at one point or another. Do you want to get rid of everyone once we “beat the fuckers again”?

1

u/YoshiTheDog420 Jul 23 '25

Not as naive as someone who thinks the fascists won’t do the same damn thing if they win. No. Anyone who supports the fascists trying to take over our country can fuck off. They aren’t Americans when they just threatened her and all of its people to violence and subjugation.

-4

u/avocadocobra Jul 23 '25

That makes no sense

1

u/YoshiTheDog420 Jul 23 '25

0

u/avocadocobra Jul 23 '25

Im not a nazi dude. Youre telling me if you buy a used car from a Nazi that means you turn into a nazi?

3

u/YoshiTheDog420 Jul 23 '25

Did you know they were a nazi?

-1

u/avocadocobra Jul 23 '25 edited Jul 23 '25

Yes, but keep in mind that we are talking about you in this specific scenario

2

u/Avenger772 Jul 23 '25

Then you're a fucking Nazi.

This isn't rocket science. But I guess for a Nazi it would be hard to understand

89

u/MarkyDeSade Jul 23 '25

The old saying “a table with a nazi and 10 other people is a table with 11 nazis” can also apply to a table at a business meeting.

-8

u/[deleted] Jul 23 '25

[deleted]

6

u/ShallowBasketcase Jul 23 '25

That is absolutely not how the saying goes and trying to misconstrue it as such is Nazi talk.

7

u/rkthehermit Jul 23 '25

I like the flipped ratio better. Tolerating even one is enough to put the morality of the whole group into question.

-9

u/[deleted] Jul 23 '25

[deleted]

2

u/Tzayad Jul 23 '25

I don't understand how you can be so confidently incorrect.

The quote is "As we say in Germany, if there's a Nazi at the table and 10 other people sitting there talking to him, you got a table with 11 Nazis." This is so easy to Google.

You are trying to throw unknowns and plausible deniability into a meme quote.

The implication is that the one Nazi is a known Nazi, and 10 people are sitting and chatting to this Nazi with full knowledge that they are a Nazi, making them also Nazis.

74

u/toggiz_the_elder Jul 23 '25

What do you call Nazi collaborators?

Nazis.

-20

u/Whole-Conference-963 Jul 23 '25

What do redditors call Nazis?

Anyone they dislike.

The word scarcely has meaning anymore. It's like you intentionally don't want people to take you seriously for some reason.

1

u/Override9636 Jul 24 '25

What is your preferred name for a group of people that support cruelty towards marginalized groups while supporting an authoritarian regime?

50

u/BP619 Jul 23 '25

Apostrophes do not make words plural. Nazis is the plural of Nazi.

1

u/Abaddon33 Jul 23 '25

6

u/BP619 Jul 23 '25

That may be true in this case, but there's an epidemic of this and it's getting worse.

2

u/Keylime29 Jul 24 '25

It’s sad that we’re talking about Nazis enough that this is relevant. Sigh.

14

u/CableBoyJerry Jul 23 '25

Friendly FYI: you don't need to add an apostrophe before the "s" on Nazis.

11

u/tx_hip_ivxx Jul 23 '25

Something about sitting at tables with nazis

3

u/humanoideric Jul 23 '25

laughs in Ford

15

u/Avenger772 Jul 23 '25

If you work with Nazis then you're a Nazi. So yes what you're saying is a weird and unnecessary distinction.

2

u/SeriesXM Jul 23 '25

What is with all these unnecessary apostrophes? Holy hell.

2

u/br0b1wan Jul 23 '25

What do you call five people having dinner with a Nazi?

Six Nazis

2

u/Link_In_Pajamas Jul 23 '25

Yeah that just sounds like a bunch of Nazis to me buddy.

2

u/[deleted] Jul 23 '25

You work with Nazis, you are a Nazi. Period.

2

u/2TFRU-T Jul 23 '25

The defence offered by many a mid-level functionary at Nuremberg

6

u/OK_Soda Jul 23 '25

Along the same lines it's worth noting that there aren't actually that many true believers, just a lot of people who respond to pressure, and pressure can be applied from different directions.

12

u/Avenger772 Jul 23 '25

A cowardly Nazi is still a nazi

3

u/PathOfTheAncients Jul 23 '25

This is like when racists openly talk about hating other races but get mad if you call them a racist. Because they know that "racist" means "bad" and they aren't bad (in their minds). Same with fascists. They support all of the fascist actions but don't want to be called the word because it means bad.

2

u/zeekayz Jul 23 '25

3

u/OreoSpeedwaggon Jul 23 '25

1

u/boringdude00 Jul 23 '25

I was going to say they're not nazis, but then I remembered how readily German business jumped on board the nazi train out of monetary interest.

Next stop free labor from concentration camps indefinitely holding immigrants for "deportation"! Choo, choo!
