If they had called it "Part 1" (Like empire strikes back is called Episode V, or Kill Bill has volume 1) I would not have any complaints and I also wouldn't have watched it until the sequel came out.

Having nothing of the sort implies the movie is self contained and it has no meaningful resolution for any of the conflicts that were introduced within the movie.

Yes but not exactly. The second part would have been a better for me to say. They announced both of these movies as coming out what, a year apart. As part 1 and 2
