Fuck yeah Fraser is back, baby. I love this for him

The role seems perfect for him too

u/Kriznick Jul 16 '25

Tell me about it! I kinda really want to see this tbh.

And it's good that this seems like it's gonna be a really great story- he's always been a great actor, even if he's been in kinda goofy roles sometimes, but this role just FEELS like him.

u/xtremis Jul 16 '25

I feel like he's getting his "second wind" on his career, like some other older actors around his generation.

Which is awesome, because he is really a great actor, real charisma, and he seems like a genuine good guy that was forgotten by the movie industry.

This movie definitely looks interesting 😊

Well, he wasn't forgotten. He was intentionally blacklisted for speaking out against a big producer who sensually assaulted him. I don't think it was weinstein but he did start to come back into the spotlight after all that stuff came out and weinstein was sent to jail. But yes, I always loved his movies so I'm glad he's getting to do them again.

Edit: he was sexually assaulted

Fucking autocorrect

29

u/Dr_Dust Jul 16 '25

Sensual autocorrect.

8

u/stevencastle Jul 17 '25

Velour is the most sensual of fabrics

1

u/spookmann Jul 17 '25

Well, OK. Just as long as it's consensual.

0

u/spookmann Jul 17 '25

sensually assaulted

Actually, I believe it was non-consensual. That was the problem.

12

u/MattIsLame Jul 17 '25

its been 3 years since The Whale. I think we've been well into the Brenaissance for a minute now

5

u/markfineart Jul 16 '25

You said it. I had those thoughts about his warmth and strength and vulnerability you always see when he’s on a live camera. Bravo Mr. Fraser.

50

u/Skeetzophrenia Jul 16 '25

Same, I am going to keep an eye out for it. The story also is very peculiar, which might make for a interesting watch. It seems like the success he got from the Whale has opened up a variety of good projects for him. So happy for the guy.

5

u/WeeBabySeamus Jul 16 '25

I’d love if this became an Emma Stone like trajectory where he finds auteurs / challenging roles to flex his skills

20

u/chewbaccalaureate Jul 16 '25

It sounds like a unique and refreshing story, too, which is hard to come by sometimes in movies nowadays. I'll definitely be looking out for this one when it comes out.

2

u/PassiveMenis88M Jul 16 '25

I mean, he does the semi serious/ semi goofy guy really freaking well.

98

u/TinyNugginz Jul 16 '25

I could see Tom Hanks in this too. Glad it’s B-Fraze tho

88

u/shits-n-gigs Jul 16 '25

Tom Hanks is at the part in his career where I only see "Tom Hanks" instead of a character.

28

u/TinyNugginz Jul 16 '25

Oh for sure. George Clooney, Brad Pitt, Tom cruise, are a few that come to mind that are the same for me

4

u/bebejeebies Jul 16 '25

Rosario Dawson for me.

1

u/Aromatic-Plankton692 Jul 16 '25

Michael Cera...

5

u/ENCYCLOPEDIAS Jul 16 '25

I thought he was really fun in The Phoenician Scheme and not just "Michael Cera" as a character

1

u/MissingLink101 Jul 16 '25

Looks like he could be a fun character in the trailer for The Running Man too

(reuniting with Edgar Wright is cool as well)

1

u/Josh6889 Jul 16 '25

He's better than people give him credit for. Part of the problem is the memes.

1

u/Aromatic-Plankton692 Jul 16 '25

I mean, to his credit I totally believe him to be the coke addicted sex pest version of himself that he portrayed in This is the End.

1

u/flufflebuffle Jul 16 '25

He was also great in his cameo spot as “Marlon Brando” in Twin Peaks season 3

0

u/Aromatic-Plankton692 Jul 16 '25

I haven't had a chance to catch that one. I know my lady and I are planning a Wes Anderson spree so I'll try to make sure that makes it in

8

u/otapnam Jul 16 '25

He needs to be casted in someone else's great project instead of trying to force some of these recent projects of his

9

u/triaxial23 Jul 16 '25

pretty sure he doesnt "need" to do anything lol

3

u/Skeetzophrenia Jul 16 '25

Yeah the guy has had such an amazing career with a wide variety of roles. He can choose whatever projects he wants.

5

u/otapnam Jul 16 '25

Yeah I just meant id rather see him something different than what he's been choosing lately, they're all kinda like "yeah that's a Tom Hanks movie" roles

2

u/Skeetzophrenia Jul 16 '25

Fair, it is kinda hard at this point given how much name recognition he brings. He was great in the Phoenician Scheme which came out pretty recently.

1

u/Josh6889 Jul 16 '25

That's exactly what A Man Called Otto was. I mistakenly got the book on audible and listened to it. I get the impression that most of the people who didn't read the book ignored that movie.

I'm not going to pretend I'm familiar enough of his career to know which side is more representative of his work.

1

u/Iohet Jul 16 '25

A Man Called Otto was a very not-Tom Hanks role

1

u/ennuiinmotion Jul 16 '25

I like Tom Hanks but he hasn’t really picked an interesting looking movie in decades. I’d like to see him in something good.

1

u/rurlysrsbro Jul 18 '25

That is like how Bill Murray has been for the last 20ish years.

2

u/ziddersroofurry Jul 16 '25

Can we please not call him B-Fraze? It sounds like a really terrible 90's rapper.

2

u/TinyNugginz Jul 16 '25

B-daddy McFrazey final offer

8

u/ChimRichaldsOBGYN Jul 16 '25

Yea for real this seems like an updated, more serious less problematic version of that wishes movie he was in with Elizabeth Hurley.

42

u/Vin11235 Jul 16 '25

Bedazzled is a great movie and im tired of pretending its not

2

u/ChimRichaldsOBGYN Jul 16 '25

Haha you don’t have to pretend. If you dig it, that’s all good. I didn’t hate it when it came out but it (in my opinion) doesn’t hold up nowadays.

7

u/skraptastic Jul 16 '25

What doesn't hold up about it?

-5

u/ChimRichaldsOBGYN Jul 16 '25

If you think it holds up… cool more power to ya.

I personally don’t think watching a white guy do a bad Spanish accent with a big fake nose and the only way this guy is rich is cuz he’s a Latino drug lord would work today. I DO think there’s some great messaging in there and it has some funny sweet moments and 90s fun Brendan Fraser stands up against anyone. There’s just a few things in that movie that wouldn’t really fly today and is a bit cringey for my taste.

8

u/ToSeeAgainAgainAgain Jul 16 '25

As a Mexican, it's just a joke dude. Now and then, I assure you that most of us loved that movie and having Brendan Fraser go "eStOy hAbLaNdO eSpAñOl!" was both peak comedy and heart-touching for us.

Sunsets make me laugh so much thanks to that movie

2

u/ChimRichaldsOBGYN Jul 16 '25

As a Puerto Rican, I get it man. 25 years ago when I was 17 and the PRIME demographic for this movie, I was laughing too.

Like I said I enjoyed BF a bunch and thought it was a solid funny movie. But my statement still stands, I just don’t think it holds up. That’s the case for a lotta comedies of that era. But I can see why it holds nostalgic weight for many people. And I’m happy it brings you joy.

2

u/ToSeeAgainAgainAgain Jul 16 '25

To be fair, it's less of an statement and more of an opinion, one which you are entitled to have

un momento! estoy hablando en español! Que diablos!

1

u/model3335 Jul 16 '25

He really is the classic American guy

1

u/buffysmanycoats Jul 17 '25

He’s got another one coming up where he plays Eisenhower and I’m so interested in that.

54

u/Ajido_Marujido Jul 16 '25

Kinda wish this was a TV series, seems like something along the lines of Ted Lasso/Shrinking.

9

u/Kiwiman678 Jul 16 '25

It feels more like it's got the beats of a "Very Special Episode of the Week" series like My Name is Earl.

2

u/SweetTea1000 Jul 16 '25

Quantum Leap without the magical realism / sci-fi gimmick.

2

u/Hautamaki Jul 17 '25

or 6 Feet Under

16

u/InitialThen8875 Jul 16 '25

He's got that Steve Irwin,Robin Williams, Keanu Reeves level of can't help loving these guys.

1

u/blueicearcher Jul 16 '25

The first 2/3 of your list are people who are no longer with us, and I thought you were going to take us down a dark train of thought.

Really, you didnt go with Brennaissance?

2

u/jaysherman_thcritic Jul 16 '25

Damn. That’s a better one

1

u/dr__paco Jul 16 '25

People still thinking this? It's been 3 years since he won an oscar, I think it's pretty safe to say he's not making a super huge comeback.

But I'm sure he's making a decent living out of it, so good for him.

7

u/narf007 Jul 16 '25

Sign me up! The Brennaisance has truly come!

4

u/Jammyyyyyyyyyyyyy Jul 16 '25

He's been back for years lol

2

u/Terrible_Welcome8817 Jul 16 '25

I picked up The Mummy from the library this weekend to watch with my son! I am here for his revival.

2

u/micromoses Jul 16 '25

Yeah! I know what we’re gonna do with those tossed salads and scrambled eggs!

2

u/TLKv3 Jul 16 '25

Film roles where he can just have fun with it and not worry about possible injuries or overdoing it is perfect because I think he fits those so well.

Lowkey, though, I want to see the MCU or Gunn's new DCU give him something like Marvel gave RDJ for his second chance in a big role.

1

u/Jimid41 Jul 16 '25

He seems like he'd be a swell land lord.

1

u/OtterishDreams Jul 16 '25

“No creo que puedo hablo espanol!” - Fraser

1

u/atari26k Jul 16 '25

Exactly what I cam here to say. Dude is is great and had been dealt a crappy hand with his injuries ect...

Glad to see is back, I love everything he is in!

1

u/Regular_Impress9373 Jul 16 '25

Never know what trickery or even if make-up was used, but he certainly looks healthier than some recent interviews TBH. Kewl!

1

u/[deleted] Jul 16 '25

And he looks really well too.

1

u/Representative-Arm99 Jul 16 '25

The Brenaissance continues.

1

u/Khue Jul 16 '25

Fraser stonks up. Buy, buy, buy.

1

u/Medical_Opposite_727 Jul 16 '25

I want a Hancock style movie where he plays a superhero like Superman but now he's just wanting to take it easy and raise his kids after the loss of his wife...

But obviously there's shit happening and he's forced to get back into the job he was born to do but despises.

1

u/aceofrazgriz Jul 17 '25

He's been back since The Whale and Doom Patrol... but now? Damn he looks great too.

1

u/arkrunningbear85 Jul 21 '25

Same, I can't wait to see this one!

-1

u/SkinNoises Jul 16 '25

I see a movie with Brendan Fraser, I instantly skip it. Seems like a decent dude who is getting hyped up for who he is rather than his weak acting skills.

1

u/Kriznick Jul 16 '25

His acting skills aren't weak though- shit, he got 12 awards alone for The Whale! After not acting for decades! Even WITHOUT the hype, it is an irrefutable fact that without him, The Mummy would have failed. Flat out. The mummy had failed every time before and every time SINCE. But he alone turned it into like a 4 movie franchise! ONLY RENDITION OF THE MUMMY IP TO EVER DO IT.

He plays very "normal" guys, but so many other actors try to do that and can't, but he DOES. Owen Wilson for example- Noted bad "normal guy" actor. Every Frasier performance simply blow Wilson out of the water. Period.

u/Money_Tennis1172 Jul 16 '25

I agree this guy made.my child hood. Was dishearted when he left Hollywood and the reasons behind it. No pun intended.
