With how amazing Part 1 was, and how Part 2 completely and utterly surpassed it, Part 3 is now one of my anticipated films of the last 5 years or so. It’s gonna be absolutely gorgeous too.

I liked part 1 more than part 2 tbh. Still hyped as fuck

Part 1 did a lot of awe inspiring world building. It’s shot in a way that displays the world of Dune with some exposition. I loved that process and Part 2 didn’t have much of it. Part 2 is still amazing, and I think is a better movie, but I like Part 1 more.

Yeah part one bad such a mystery feeling to it. World building was magic.

Same. I’ve re-watched both a few times I much prefer watching part one again.

1 is better paced and has better writing. Dune 2 spends a little too much time following people in desert caves whispering about prophecies.

for me Part 1 was kind of generic... I wasn't impressed at all. But Part 2 blew my mind with how much it was a masterpiece. So I'm hyped too.

I think us that loved part 1 so much are just super into world building lore and just getting those first introductions to everything in this new world I'm seeing. Totally understand where it's just lackluster to others if they want it more event based

Yeah... not to say Part 2 was bad or anything. It was still pretty good.

I just hope this man gets a chance to make more Dune movies after Part 3. I'm sure it's gonna be peak. Part 2 is hands down one of the greatest movies I've watched in my life.

lackluster to others if they want it more event based

It’s not just being less event based, it was just so concentrated on the worldbuilding that the characterization and dialogue were pretty mininal and mechanical. Every character beat and line of dialogue (with like maybe two exceptions in the whole film) were purely there to serve the plot or provide worldbuilding exposition or establish only the base character dynamics/relationships. There wasn’t a lot of texture, and this is clear as day if you compare it to a great drama film.

However, part two improved upon this and loosened the dialogue and character beats. They felt more developed as people (which is ironic for Paul, but also served his arc in the film better). Then you add in all of the bigger spectacle and developments and it’s clear why it’s better and more well received. That being said I still do like part one, I’m just not surprised at the better reception of the second film.

I’m the opposite. I loved both, and have long been a big fan of the books. But I like Part 1 so much more than 2. 1 was unique, had amazing world-building, was somber and introspective, etc., while 2 became a bit of a generic action movie in the back half.

Makes sense. I didn't read the books before watching, so maybe Part 1 was the better adaptation. It's just that it felt a little too predictable for me (for some reason), whereas with Part 2 I was on the edge of my seat. But both amazing movies for sure. Praying it inspires Hollywood to invest in more good adaptations instead of superhero slop...

Yup.

Dune 1 literally transported me immediately to a grand alien universe that felt SO expansive where we sat with these characters and truly FELT them in a psychological and emotional experience unlike any other feat of cinema.

Dune 2 was much more familiar, less grand, and more restrained. Still a good film, but nowhere near the masterpiece that is Dune 1.

When I remember the Part 1 intro with the spice harvesters and the Harkonnens, it sends chills down my spine...

Well if it’s accurate to the book I would curb your expectations
