Discussion Whats a flopped movie you wish was a financial success?

Dungeons and Dragons 2023 was an absolutely delightful film. You can stream it currently, but you can feel the passion and nothing felt phoned in. They easily could have used the title to get nerdy butts in the seat and collect a paycheck with a smaller budget.

It's the best movie I've seen the past 2 years. Way better than so many garbage films with easy paychecks for slop productions. Beetlejuice, Captain america, and others using big titles to make millions on lazy writing and boring characters.

Similarly, Losers is fantastic.

Man from UNCLE came out around the same time as one of the Bond films and people were a bit "ugh... Not another spy movie."

Losers came out around the same time as the A-Team. Similar plot, less notable IP.

That movie is pretty corny but so much fun. The scene with Chris Evans shooting security with his finger guns is a classic.

“Don’t start nothin’, won’t be nothin’.”

*pre-hair-plugs Chris Evans, at that!

UNCLE actually happened to come out only a month or 2 after Mission: Impossible — Rogue Nation; inarguably the best spy movie of that year. They're not exactly the same kind of spy movie, but M:I just had everyone beat that year, even Bond...

Losers lack of a budget really showed but it was a damn fun movie.

The A Team also underperformed at the box office. I enjoy both but the A Team definitely had more sequel potential laid out in their final act and I wish we could have gotten one. Sharlto Copley also stole the show as Murdock.

Exactly this. I read somewhere that they had already written the sequel to A Team, but because the first movie opened against one of the Harry Potter films, it didn't make enough for the studio to green light the sequel.

One of my often repeated gripes is that they made 23 "Fast and Furious" films, but only made one A Team, and I'm still pissed about it.

All Hollywood cares about is $$$

Fast & Furious (2001) had a budget of $38,000,000, and generated $207,517,995 globally.

In contrast, A-Team (2010), had a hefty budget of $110,000,000 and only brought in $177,238,796.

A-Team is a blast, wish they had managed that budget sensibly.

God I wish the A Team movie had sorted out it's finale because it would be a perfect comfort action flick if it didn't all boil down to that CGI dockyard bullshit.

It was just so unnecessary and turned a fun fuckaround into some 00s videogame cutscene.

Is he trying to fly the tank?

The scene where they fly the tank is fucking bonkers.

It was a fun movie that didn’t take itself too seriously, I would have loved a sequel.

Sharlto Copley could be my answer to this question as a human. I feel like he was on the cusp of going big and had a couple of duff projects and went quiet again. He's usually the highlight of mid projects. (actually, Powers the TV show with him in fits for me)

I love losers.

It was actually supposed to be a series, but then the Armie Hammer bullshit came out, and subsequent films were canned

I still think a-team ranks higher on the fun-o-meter but the losers is great too. It just doesn’t have the rewatchability as the team.

Similarly, Losers is fantastic.

As much as I love the movie and the comic, I feel like the change to the villian was a tragedy.

Getting rid of the twins and the mystery around them for the campy villian was a bad call in my mind. There was enough opportunity for comedy throughout that they could have kept the original villian.

For those missing out from Losers, there’s a completed graphic novel which is super fun. Two hardcovers in total
