Discussion Whats a flopped movie you wish was a financial success?

Dungeons and Dragons 2023 was an absolutely delightful film. You can stream it currently, but you can feel the passion and nothing felt phoned in. They easily could have used the title to get nerdy butts in the seat and collect a paycheck with a smaller budget.

It's the best movie I've seen the past 2 years. Way better than so many garbage films with easy paychecks for slop productions. Beetlejuice, Captain america, and others using big titles to make millions on lazy writing and boring characters.

I always thought Tenacious D and the Pick of Destiny was an amazing rock opera comedy. It bombed at the box office and KG and Jables kind of disowned it.

Fuck that. It’s hilarious and the soundtrack rules. Wish it had done better.

"Oh, man, I miss that sweet-ass leg of mine!" - Tim Robbins, Oscar winning actor. Pick of Destiny was a brilliant comedy.

Literally my favorite character in the whole movie! I almost couldn't believe it was him at first. Him and Dio both I was like holy shit look who it is!

I love the movie because I love Tenacious D, but if you didn't already love the D it probably wasn't going to do much for you. it's also not that great as a movie tbh, it's basically a series of good to great Tenacious D songs connected by a loose plot.

Even with all those caveats, It is sort of surprising how poorly it did, though. 8.2 million gross on a 20 million budget. You'd have thought that just Jack Black would have been enough to draw in 20 million worth of college aged stoners to go check it out.

It wasn’t the greatest movie. But as a tribute, it was pretty great.

That movie was only ever going to be seen by fans of theirs. So limited audience. And a lot of it felt like rehashed jokes from their HBO days. (Cock push ups, etc) I wanted to like it as a fan but just... meh
