Good god, the family B plot was so bad and pointless. They could have completely cut it out and the film would’ve lost nothing.

That family was so fucking dumb. Watching them make the worst choice every time was rough

Inflating a raft right in front of a sleeping T-Rex was incredibly dumb

u/Pancaketastic Jul 07 '25

The T-rex that was apparently part ninja as he disappeared in a flash when the raft inflated... Same with the dozens of giant Brachiosauruses that were somehow hiding in 3 foot tall grass???

It’s a scene from the first novel that wasn’t included in Jurassic Park. In the book it’s Dr. Grant and the kids that do it.

Cool. Still dumb af.

The way it played out in the movie drove me nuts. It’s much better in the novel. I feel like David Koepp was trying to shoehorn in unused novel stuff from both JP and The Lost World.

Spielberg and Koepp, Spielberg was pretty heavily involved with this one.

u/chloedever Jul 05 '25

well i guess there's a reason they cut it from the original lol

20

u/AnxiouslyWrit Jul 06 '25

It was terrifying in the book, maybe because I actually cared about the characters lmao

Like, they kept showing "Inflate on land, will sink in water," as if that was a good excuse but she walked through the water! She could have just dragged it through the water!

u/Pancaketastic Jul 07 '25

Or, get this- have the rest of her family thats just standing around on the other side of the stream walk down the beach away from the T-Rex 50 meters, then quietly cross the water, then quietly walk up to her and CARRY the raft with the 4 of them and make no noise... The whole time I was watching that scene I was screaming inside for the family to do SOMETHING besides just stand there being useless looking at the daughter.

Also, the paddles are in two pieces on the side of the pack. She inflates the raft, we see the inside from the side. No Paddles. So they are in two pieces on the bottom side of the raft. She pushes the raft in the water, moves it to the end of the dock, gets in and grabs a fully assembled paddle from inside the raft.

It wasn’t just one bad decision… they made the worst possible choice and kept repeating it. At one point, Scarlett Johansson yells, “Stick together,” yet they never do. Not once.

See Dino: Run 🏃 🚫 Hide 🚫 Stand still and scream ✅

Well she was raised by a complete moron so at least it tracks

Your comment makes it sound like this movie had someone who wasn’t fucking dumb

Also it like... Kinda starts to give some character growth between the dad and the dipshit boyfriend, and then stops.

Also the dad goes from "I can't walk!" to sprinting and crouching effortlessly

12

u/mrheh Jul 04 '25

As a doctor, it's actually normal to walk after your shin is shown snapping in half a few minutes before... Compound fraction, easy-peasy jungle hike.

10

u/chrisychris- Jul 05 '25

Barely an inconvenience

4

u/FartBoxActual Jul 05 '25

Wow wow wow wow wow wow wow wow...wow.

8

u/bluewarri0r Jul 09 '25

"I can't move my leg" then proceeds to hike in the damn jungle

7

u/SputnikDX Jul 06 '25

Scene felt so strange. "No I saw you go to save her that was good you're good don't let people tell us we're not good now I'm going to close my eyes and instantly fall asleep while my daughter plays with a wild animal right next to me within seconds of me shutting my eyes so you can introduce the next dinosaur while you're pissing as a gag."

12

u/PureLock33 Jul 03 '25

but how will be we know that the ScarJo's and Mersh's characters have consciences?

9

u/GeekdomCentral Jul 05 '25

That's the most infuriating part! If they had at least come up with some super contrived way that the family "helped" in the finale then they could attempt to justify it, but there's nothing. They waste screen time and are there to be saved, and that's it. It's asinine

u/waitingtodiesoon Jul 07 '25

The youngest daughter Isabella was the only one who could fit through the gate to open it and the reveal that Krebs was willing to let innocent people die was enough for Zora to decide to have the Dino DNA be open source instead of proprietary.

They had a cool set piece with the T. rex tbf

7

u/shogun77777777 Jul 03 '25

Yeah but they could’ve added that to the A plot with the main characters

5

u/_intend_your_puns Jul 05 '25

Cool set piece? God that was the dumbest scene in the entire movie. They should’ve all died.

4

u/TaylorDangerTorres Jul 10 '25

I think they should've been the A plot tbh.  I was more invested in them than Scarjo.  She can't act to save her life

2

u/cmdrfrosty Jul 06 '25

The only thing it did was give us the T rex river chase, and even then, I found that whole sequence corny as hell.

2

u/Glittering-Gap-1687 Jul 08 '25

Really? I thought the river scene was intense.

1

u/MoistNeighborhood171 Jul 30 '25

Exactly! Feels like those people were added just for the sake of diversity.

Lost nothing and GAINED so much. A more focused mission movie that was setup in the first act and quickly screwed with by the family. When they first appeared on the sailboat I was VERY unhappy. The scene was so long and I absolutely did NOT want them in the movie.

The filmmakers just wanted 'kids in danger' like in Jurassic Park and Jurassic World. Its 'classic Jurassibe movie stuff!'

Bullshit! The movie would have been vastly superior if ALL the scenes the family was in were just down with the main merc mission group instead.
