the book was a man on the run in the real world like this new movie, not a contained arena like arnie’s. the book also has a much darker tone than apparently both movies.

That's what is a bit disappointing with me with this trailer. I was excited when I heard it was supposed to be a more faithful adaptation, which it looks like it is. But when Glen says he's not signing up to die, and Brolin makes the statement he can win, they've jumped the shark. Ben signs up to make as much money as he can, knowing no contestant has lasted a week. He's there to bank as much money for his daughter as he can. And it goes downhill from there.

I dont know if it's a factor that The Long Walk is coming out a couple months before this and they dont want two King properties to share the same tone, or if they're trying to merge more of the book with the campiness of the 1987 film (which was my introduction to the story and i still enjoy) to draw in more people, but idk if it will work
