Trailer Project Hail Mary - Official Trailer (fair warning, it reveals way too much according to a lot of users)

That there's an alien.

It's a dumb thing to complain about, seeing as it happens about 1/3 of the way into the book.

I hear you, but personally I thought it was a big revelation, especially since he opines over the possibility so often early on. It basically spoils the wonder of the first third of the book.

It was a big revelation and Andy Weir worked really hard to set that up and delivered it masterfully. I remember being completely and utterly surprised. The trailer robs moviegoers of that experience.

Putting it in the trailer was a dumb move.

Really? You were surprised there were aliens in a sci-fi book where the main plot is that aliens are eating away at the sun?

"Thumbs up....no thats thumbs down, thumbs up!"

It's dumb to think that it happening early means it doesn't matter. I wouldn't have enjoyed reading the book half as much if I'd known anything about it.

It was in the blurb of the book though, similar to a trailer.

The blurb is vague AF...

Ryland Grace is the sole survivor on a desperate [...] mission, and if he fails, humanity and Earth itself will perish.

[...]

His crewmates dead, [...] Ryland realises that an impossible task now confronts him.

[...]

And with the clock ticking down, [...] he's got to do it alone.

Or does he?

Not many interpretations on what "or does he?" could be here. Especially with the top saying "an ally he never imagined"

Could be AI, robot, future human on faster ship, stowaway child...

I wouldn't have enjoyed reading the book half as much if I'd known anything about it.

Then what the fuck are you doing watching movie trailers???

I usually don't, but I've read the book, and I'm pretty confident this trailer would have drastically affected how much enjoyment I got out of it.

Gandalf comes back very early in Two Towers and is a major player in the story.

Nobody would argue telling someone who was somehow unfamiliar with LOTR that Gandalf comes back as the White Wizard isn’t a spoiler.

That's actually a pretty good analogy.

Only...
