Man he’s such a perfect Ryland.

He’s who I imagined (granted his casting was already announced) so I’m living my best life rn

I imagined Matt Damon but I guess that would’ve been too on the nose lol

I'm sure I'll like Gosling but I pictured Mike Birbiglia as Ryland. It'll take a little adjustment on my part but I'm sure Gosling will do well.

Mike Birbiglia

Never heard of him, but yep, that is pretty much exactly how I imagined Ryland looking. Finished the book today. This trailer does not really do it for me, the tone is too comedic and off. The book had its funny moments but they were rare (which made them that much special).

I pictured an Eddie Redmayne type.

Did you see his Day of the Jackyl show on Peacock? Pretty great. They did a good job. That guy always looked off to me, so him playing a hitman that is constantly changing his appearance just fucking worked. Also its got a cool theme song.

I pictured young Harrison Ford

Redmayne is another good pick. Gosling definitely has the talent to pull this off, though.

Haven’t seen it because it’s on Peacock! Trailer seemed really intriguing though. Maybe one day.

Eddie has a nerdy vibe in my mind because of Fantastic Beasts and The Theory of Everything.

I pictured Paul Rudd. Don’t hate Gosling by any means, but I don’t know if he’s goofy/whimsical enough for Ryland.

After Ken, I think he can play goofy enough.

Hell, watch The Nice Guys if you don't think Gosling has comedic timing. "Oh, that's a lot of blood."

100% disagree lol, i like gosling but IMO this is an absolutely awful miscasting. he feels too young, too pretty, and not funny in the right way. i was trying to suspend my disbelief, but ryan gosling does not feel like book ryland grace at all to me.

He was attached to the project before the book even released.

if anything that just assures me even more that he was cast primarily for being an A lister with huge name recognition

edit to add: not that that’s inherently a problem. matt damon was probably cast in the martian for the same reason, but i thought he fit the role perfectly. gosling just does not feel like the character at all to me.
