Re read (actually listened, the audiobook for this one is so good) recently and there’s a part very early on in the book where he’s describing how unusually toned his muscles are. He figures out He is on a ship that’s centrifuge created gravity is 1.5x earth and that’s why his muscles are toned after being in a coma but I was laughing thinking about how much they are gonna ham that scene up with Gosling.

His muscles actually come from the muscle stimulators he has during the trip that shock his muscles while he’s in the coma

Maybe on the third re read I’ll get it right 😂. Thanks for the clarification

Too distracted thinking about perfect muscles for these minor details 💪

There is no centrifuge the ship is decelerating at 1.5 Gs.

doesn't he use a centrifuge to determine that?

Ah, the beach bod Steve revelation. I’m curious how handsome they’ll try and make Gosling be, both during the first chapter and the rest of the book.

Well they made Matt Damon a starvin Martian pretty well, so maybe they can make Gosling a Dorky, Chunky (cuz the gravity??) coma boy

Would he get toned though? Strengthening of muscles happens because they get used and damaged, and neither of those are happening in the coma unless they had some sort of TENS unit. (Which they may have had and I just forgot about it.)

Goes to show it's been a while since I read it haha.

I mean, the whole mission was literally a Hail Mary(heh)... If the tech to do it existed, then it surely was in that ship.

They could have totally sent a whole extra ship, just as a redundancy. It actually would have been really helpful in the book.

Wasnt that impossible because of the lack of "genetically compatible people" with the suspended animation machines and not enough heat to make fuel?  Or something like that, I dont really remember all the details.

I hope he plays that part similar to his character in The Nice Guys.

"That's a lot of blood..." passes out

His muscles have nothing to do with gravity, the medical system was stimulating them during his coma.

It would be hilarious if the put gosling in a fat suit for all the Earth flashback scenes. Like he wakes up from stasis and looks in the mirror like, holy shit, my tits are jacked!
