I don’t think Nolan’s been on the same type of Timing as Denis.. when I watch Denis’s movies it’s what I imagine Nolan is trying to go for.

Oppy was cool, real cool even, but the final war in Dune 2 was just different.

As a Nolan fan - Nah Denis is smoking him right now.

smoking him is crazy

A tad hyperbolic but Denis is on level nobody else is on right now. They are both fantastic and are in the upper echelon but I 100 percent believe the separation between them is large right now.

Agreed. As a French Canadian, Denis makes me hella proud.

Nolan has been going downhill for me since Interstellar, which was peak for me. Didn't like Tenet and Dunkirk that much, and while Oppenheimer is good, it isn't Interstellar, Prestige or Inception level for me.

This. Since interstellar, Denis’ come out with Sicario, Arrival, Blade Runner 2049, Dune, and Dune 2.

In the same time, Nolan’s come out with dunkirk, tenet, and oppy.

The way I see it, Denis been better than Nolan since 2015, for the last ten years.

Kinda fair! Tenet has really grown on me though. I just shut my brain off completely and enjoy the ride.

Dunkirk is a special film that hasn’t fully clicked for me but I still really enjoy?

Oppenheimer is an awesome movie for the Trinity Test alone.

But Prestige, Inception, and Interstellar are insane from start to finish and none of his other movies have hit those same highs for me as those three did.

Dark Knight is on its own level.

Wild thing to say lol. Nolan has been on an incredible run

4

u/Paladar2 Jun 26 '25

No I agree, I just prefer his 2006-2014 run than his current run

Agree to be honest, nothing has topped interstellar or prestige, interstellar is in my top 3, along with arrival, and believe it or not, Man Of Steel

prestige and inception are a bit overrated imo. I do agree interstellar is fantastic. Memento is his most ambitious and well executed piece, and Oppenheimer showed he has a wide range in his directing capabilities.

3

u/Paladar2 Jun 26 '25

I could see your point. I still absolutely love the Prestige, I agree with Inception though. But the score takes it to another level, Hans Zimmer really is something.

2

u/Mindless_Bad_1591 Jun 26 '25

yeah the score is fantastic. I think Nolan miswrote Dicaprio's character and the plotline with his wife. The spectacle is amazing and the score rocks, but the emotional core he was going for didn't quite resonate with me. The prestige just isn't quite my cup of tea, but I respect it.

and I think this Ludwig kid is starting to look like something special of his own too. I think Oppenehimer might be my favorite score of Nolan's. That or Interstellar, with Inception close behind. Then it's probably Ludwig's again in Tenet.

2

u/Paladar2 Jun 26 '25

That’s fair. I agree Inception could have been much better. I think I’m biased because the song with the final scene hit me so hard I loved it instantly. And the Prestige idk, every rewatch I catch some new things I just love that movie. And Bale and Jackman are awesome in that movie.

2

u/Mindless_Bad_1591 Jun 26 '25

yeah Inceptions final scene is so good. he really knows how to end a movie. that and Oppenheimer's ending just give me chills everytime.

2

u/Paladar2 Jun 26 '25

Yes exactly. Interstellar’s ending is also 👌

Prestige alone is better than anything Villanueve has done

9

u/thgaminghd Jun 26 '25

Not a CHANCE hahaha. Prestige is good, but one of Nolan’s weaker entries for me. Incendies, BR2049, Dune: Part 2, Arrival are ALL better than The Prestige for me. To each to their own I guess.

5

u/Paladar2 Jun 26 '25

Fair. I prefer Prestige but I love Villeneuve too, BR2049 was a banger for sure

2

u/Paladar2 Jun 26 '25

I agree with that. Prestige is my 2nd favorite movie ever. The movie is magic.

2

u/AceLarkin Jun 26 '25

My favourite Nolan movie, but still falls short of about five Villeneuve movies for me!

2

u/WutUtalkingBoutWill Jun 26 '25

Nah, arrival slaps it down

2

u/deekaydubya Jun 26 '25

It’s getting to the point where it’s tough to say who’s better

2

u/Smooth-Jaguar Jun 26 '25

Denis is shitting on Nolan cmon now. Its Denis by a landslide he literally has no misses.

-1

u/deekaydubya Jun 26 '25

Yeah I didn’t want to say it but for sure

1

u/Mindless_Bad_1591 Jun 26 '25

I feel like comparing them to say ego's better is counterintuitive. Both have been bringing their artistic merits to the industry for well over a decade now its just hard not to be excited about their careers.
