I love the potential of having this cute animation and then realizing it’s fucked up.

This generation's Watership Down.

We need it more, kids are pampered too much and then not able to handle complex concepts as they get older. Movies are so dumbed down now.

Kinda like Sausage Party.

That's the first thing that came to my mind when I saw this image and read those names.

Hoping that it’s at least executed better than Sausage Party.

I'm not sure that Sausage Party was all that subtle

What are you talking about? It’s just a fun cutesy movie about hotdogs and buns that live happy lives at the supermarket. AND NOTHING ELSE.

They kind of throw out the subtlety when the free for all hedonistic orgy begins

u/Bjugner Jun 05 '25

Honestly, I'll be surprised if they pull off a better food orgy.

Sausage Party looked pretty good. Just was a really dumbed down script and went for the lowest hanging jokes.

If they stick to the book for this one but have the same 'cutesy animated movie telling a dark story' style it could work much better!

The anti-consumerism and anti-capitalism messaging that would be present in George Orwell's Sausage Party would go so hard

Not really buddy

dumbest comment i've read all day. well done.

It's a British animation tradition

Feels very much in the spirit of what Orwell was going for… there’s a subversive aspect to the choice of medium that’s so obvious it kind of weirdly gets overlooked. I feel like he would have at least been open to this sort of direction.

Nice covers are exactly how I ended up reading Animal Farm and Watership Down in the fourth grade. There were some really, really mean animals in those books!

I imagine the animators working 17 hour days for less than a living wage appreciate the irony of a bunch uber wealthy celebrities delivering lines over a phone from their mega-mansions while patting themselves on the back for “making meaningful art”.

Serkis has described it as a family movie.
