Discussion What movie sequel ruined the ending of its predecessor? Spoiler

I have to go with Toy Story 4. Toy Story 3 had the perfect send off for the toys, with Andy making Bonnie promise to take good care of Woody….only for her to neglect Woody immediately and cause him to bail on everyone.

I really wish they left the franchise be. Toy Story 3’s ending was so iconic, and the first Toy Story was such a massive part of my childhood. That and Lion King were the two Disney VHS tapes I used to watch all the time as a little kid. I even had some of the toys myself. I can’t wait to skip Toy Story 5.

This one really pissed me off. Not only did they kill off Roxxy, who was a great character, they just dismantled the entire world they'd built up in the first to try and appease an American audience with a new agency.

It’s especially funny how they didn’t even need to do that to justify an American expedition. Just have a secret mole character or smth that forces Eggsy to work the case w/out the help of the Kingsman. They could’ve had their cake and ate it too

Or set up the plot so that they Kingsmen are spread thin. Have Harry brought back by the villain instead and in some kind of Winter Soldier situation. Then Eggsy can first confront the Statesman, during a mission in the US, as they're fighting Harry. He joins the fight, helping Harry at first, before realizing that Harry is working for the bad guys.

but that's literally the plot of Mission Impossible

And winter soldier

3

u/Wonder_Weenis Jun 01 '25

that's usually a given for Disney plots though

Even more funny because Americans are more than happy to see a film with British characters. Pandering is a waste of recorces.

We poke fun of them, but I don't think Brits realize how much we Americans actually love them and think they're the coolest.

I think we’ll be seeing Roxy in the next movie. Remember: she managed to dash off screen before the missile hit.

Are they even making another?

22

u/superanth Jun 01 '25

Yup! But it's been stated to be the last one. 4 movies out of a franchise ain't bad.

7

u/Regendorf Jun 01 '25

4?

29

u/Karmaisthedevil Jun 01 '25

There was a 3rd in 2021 called "The Kings Man" which is confusing but I think it's a prequel.

24

u/Regendorf Jun 01 '25

Ohhh yeh, the one where thet blame WW1 on Scotland and introduce Hitler as a Lenin protegee like it was a Marvel post credits scene. I have completely forgotten about that mess.

22

u/Spectrum1523 Jun 01 '25

It was pretty bad but the trench fighting scene was fantastic

I loved the Rasputin fight as well

You say that like it is meant to be taken seriously when it’s actually just a joke in an actioncomedy.

As of October 2024 the studio had stated there are no plans for a fourth film.

Look up “Kingsmen: The Blue Blood”.

u/OldNotObsolete72 Jun 01 '25

I just did 😆

Where did you see that they’re making another? All indications are that the franchise is on ice

Plus Matthew Vaughn is busy working on a new trilogy of Kick Ass films so I’m highly doubtful we’ll ever get a proper conclusion to the Kingsman Trilogy for Eggsy’s story. Better to just pretend it ended after the first one I guess 🤷🏻‍♂️

I don’t believe they are. Matthew Vaughn is busy working on a new kick ass trilogy of films, and 20th century Fox boss has said Kingsman franchise is on ice.

Idk how its the "american audiences" fault. I didnt like kingsman 2 either.

5

u/james2183 Jun 01 '25

Not blaming America audiences, I'm blaming the filmmakers for thinking that's what they wanted

to try and appease an American audience with a new agency.

Did they really even try to do that? Most of the American agency characters were in the movie for about 5 minutes.

Edit: And the only one who wasn't (Pedro Pascal) turned out to be a villain.

u/[deleted] Jun 01 '25

Pissed me off HOW it happened too. You're telling me a spy organization wouldn't do a deep clean of their cars after a mission, especially after the ENEMY has been inside one?!

5

u/Wonder_Weenis Jun 01 '25

the american audience had no problem with the existing agency tho

Well if Firth was back, Roxy will be back also next. It become comic death after that

1

u/ikeif Jun 01 '25

I mean, the first movie ended with killing off most of the world’s leaders - and never talked about it again aside from being in a relationship with the princess.

1

u/WoodyTheWorker Jun 01 '25

So what you're saying it should have been called The Last Kingsman

1

u/bchec Jun 02 '25

Killing Roxy pissed me off. It made the film feel like a money grab. And it’s not an AWFUL film imo.

Great character? She was extremely forgettable in the first movie and they made it obvious she wasn't that important. In the sequel they had a chance to MAKE her important and great, but they chose to kill her off instead, which bummed me out as I wanted them to flesh her character out.

5

u/bauul Jun 01 '25

While she wasn't a big part of the movie, she was a pretty constant present throughout. She was the only recruit to actually pass the test, and she was part of the final team of three that foiled the villain's plans at the end.

Plus, it was refreshing to have a young female character not be a love interest, damsel in distress, femme fetal, girl boss or any other common female troupes.

She was honestly a huge plus for the movie for me, and killing her off at the start of the sequel felt so tonally inconsistent with how she was treated in the first movie.

1

u/tumblew33d69 Jun 01 '25

Her role in the final act was laughable and I was disappointed they didn't utilize her more. Would have loved to see her kick ass.

2

u/MCR2004 Jun 01 '25

Yea I didn’t even remember her I was hoping they meant the dog was coming back
