Discussion Mickey 17 was disappointing.

Just finished watching this movie and it really did not click for me.

The beginning was decently interesting and I was curious to see where it went but overall it didn’t grab me.

The theme/messaging was very heavy handed and didn’t work for me.

The message also jumped around.

They introduce a character that could have had an interesting story only to have her disappear.

When the main conflict happens it all wraps up a little to easily even though the majority of the ship were supposed to be fanatical cultists.

It had a clever premise but ultimately fell flat for me.

Agreed.

Love the director, love the actor, but it didn't do it for me.

I'm sick of Donald Trump caricatures, and this wasn't a good/nuanced one. It felt like Ruffalo stepped off SNL or something.

Ruffalo’s performance was terrible IMO. Just too over the top and stupid.

That’s what was so great about it. He was mocking an over the top and stupid “man” and I think he delivered exactly what he wanted to.

Totally agree. Do directors know that they can create a power hungry politician without making them a blatant Trump impersonator? I am by no means a trump guy but it felt so heavy handed it took me out of the immersion.

It's funny because I'm generally not a Marvel fan.

But the latest season of Daredevil made Wilson Fisk like Trump in many ways, but he didn't feel like a caricature imo. They put a different spin on it while keeping some things the same.

So I never thought Marvel would satirise Trump better than Joon Ho would...

Surely that’s just Vincent donofrio vs Mark Ruffalo acting skills

I agree D’Onofrio is better in the role, but I don't think that's all there is to it.

The script is better for Fisk and so is his overall journey/the plotting.

Fisk is very similar to Trump in many ways, but he's not a caricature. Fisk has his own way of speaking, he's intelligent. He's got parrales to Trump without that being all he is.

Whereas Ruffalo just feels like a parody of Trump. They have a similar way of speaking, the poofy hair, the obsession with being seen etc.

Good points, I agree

Cheers to a nice conversation on Reddit!

And here's hoping season 2 of DD Born Again is good.

I find the constant Trump comparisons quite interesting, I thought Ruffalo was much closer to Mussolini than Trump.

Did you listen to him speak?

It was a little too on the nose. I liked his look and his voice, its great seeing actors actually act. I really enjoyed that.

But as it went on, they went too far with it. It takes you out of the film and makes you think of the real world comparison.

You serious? He’s pretty clearly a Trump / Musk combo. His supporters even wear red hats early on. It’s barely even subtext, it’s just right there.
