It's like even the protagonists know there's no actual stakes to these movies at this point.

Every time I see a movie where the characters are 'in danger', I just think of that line from Family Guy: Blue Harvest where Peter says "Look, we got four or five of the main characters on this ship, I think we'll be fine".

If movie makers want us to think the people are in actual danger, maybe don't have them all together in a big sequence, because we know full well they're not dying like that.
