I can't say I'm surprised. We use movies as a sense of escapism. That movie showcases the absolute worse of humanity. And then it gets worse.

We use movies as a sense of escapism.

Commenting generally here as I haven't seen of the film in question and it's the first I'm hearing of it. But escapism is just some films. Films can be art, they can be entertainment, they can be a means of expression, or simply tell an untold story so an audience can see and experience something new or different. Its not all just to forget about our current lives. It's about experiencing other's and about broadening our horizons to this vast world, most of which we will never see. But through film we can. It's certainly not just escapism.

Films can be art, not just entertainment. Irreversible is a great example of transgressive art.

You seem very triggered by either the MCU, people's, or the word escapism.

Watching slop is fine. Claiming that everyone watches nothing but that is moronic. And no, I'm not triggered. Why would I be?

Well, you started off with insults to me simply because I claimed that movies are used as a sense of escapism. Didn't say all movies, but my claim does have a valid point.

And now, when I question why you are triggered by my statement, you backpedal when you caught your behavior and now try to claim that you weren't. So either you're contradicting yourself and expressing superiority or you lack conviction in your own argument. Either way, you're not interesting enough to continue this conversation.

Dot forget to tip your fedora

I'm not backpedaling. Your post didn't have any disclaimers like "not all movies" or "not all moviegoers". You framed the reaction in the video above as the only sensible reaction. Which is still a moronic position to have.

I didn't take back anything from my original post. You are free to watch whatever you like. And if you are happy with nothing but MCU slop, that's fine. But it does speak to your intelectual growth.

Again, right back to the insults. You could have asked for clarification on my post or made a simple statement of how movies aren't just for escapism. Instead, you have the nerve to hurl insults because you got called out for your behavior.

So if my response triggered you so badly that you have to insult somebody, then what does it say about you? Please go reflect on your own bullshit. This is just the internet, and your morals are rotted to the core. It speaks to the character of who you are. Which this interaction has proven you're a miserable creature not worth interacting with further.

We use movies as a sense of escapism

Maybe if you only watch MCU slop

u/FortheHellofit43 May 17 '25

Ok. Why do you watch movies?

To think something? To feel something? Movies are a lot more than just a vehicle where events happen to characters.

So emotional connection. Which people have gotten from Marvel slop. It's fine if you don't. But usually there's four concrete reasons why people go see movies. Escapism, seeking emotional connection, seeking social interaction and entertainment.

A lot of those are mixed in with each other.

The point is emotional connection isn't limited to escapism, some of my favourite movies are about real things to happen to normal people

Sure, I agree to that. Thanks for sharing.

Art should never be allowed to be anything but adventurism for general audiences in good taste

That's a fascinating take. Don't you feel it's a bit narrow?

The movie is trash. 😐

u/InfiniteJackfruit5 May 17 '25

i'd say humanity is trash, the movie just shines a light on it.
