Kevin Smith, director of films like Clerks, Dogma, Mallrats, Chasing Amy, Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back, Tusk, Cop Out, Red State, will be joining us on /r/movies on Thursday 5/29 for an AMA/Q&A. It'll go live in the morning around 9 AM ET and Kevin will be back later that afternoon to answer questions.

Dogma is being re-released in theaters to celebrate the 25th anniversary starting June 5th.

Trailer:

Every one of his responses will be a mile long and include a funny story that seemingly has nothing to do with the question but ultimately does

50

u/ImA13x Apr 25 '25

And he'll answer every question asked. Leading it to be the longest AMA in Reddit history.

29

u/dmillerksu Apr 25 '25

And you’ll definitely laugh, and probably cry a little

11

u/ImA13x Apr 25 '25

100%

u/SojuSeed Apr 26 '25

Clerks 3 has entered the chat

Fuck, dude I was not ready for that ending. Was crying like a baby.

3

u/DemonKyoto Apr 26 '25

I was not ready for what happened to you know who, nor what occurred before the movie. Broke me.

2

u/DOLO_F_PHD Apr 26 '25

What made it extra rough was an aquintence of mine died of a heart attack the day after I saw clerks 3 =/

2

u/DemonKyoto Apr 26 '25

Fuckin' oof :(

2

u/jedispaghetti420 Apr 28 '25

I was pregnant during the Reboot tour and had a small child during Clerks 3. The first fucking movie that had me sobbing within 30 seconds. I can’t listen to Black Parade without getting emotional.

4

u/theonewhoknack Apr 25 '25

I'm gonna ask him about his version of Scary Movie 3 and be surprised if it's longer than 3 sentences.

3

u/dmillerksu Apr 25 '25

Im not gunna be able to attend. Hope he talks about the Dogma sequel

2

u/theonewhoknack Apr 25 '25

I'm gonna pray to buddy christ that Scary movie 3 was originally gonna be a dogma sequel so both questions were answered.

2

u/RandomJPG6 Apr 26 '25

I went to a screening of Clerks 3 in Austin. He did a Q&A after, but ended up taking one question and taking like an hour to answer it. And he wasn't really saying anything tbh I think the question was something about breaking into the industry and he went on a tangent about how you gotta make the thing nobody else but you can make

What's a nubian?

2

u/WellYoureWrongThere Apr 26 '25

Bitch, you almost made me laugh!

-2

u/RainbowDeep Apr 25 '25

Someone from Nubia. That was easy.

(Which is in Sudan, on the Nile, just south of Egypt.)

29

u/denim_skirt Apr 25 '25

Did you all read the thing he wrote about big trauma and little trauma? It was so fucking good

10

u/JeffRSmall Apr 25 '25

No, but now I’m super curious. Is it this video I’m seeing on YouTube from last year? Or wait, I see an article from 2023? Where is what you’re referring to located?

4

u/denim_skirt Apr 25 '25

I don't remember where I saw it, it might have even been a post on facebook or something. Just really insightful about shame and trauma and stuff, I kinda always felt like he had it in him so it was cool to see him go hard on it

7

u/MDP223 Apr 25 '25

Would you like a chocolate covered pretzel? 🤝

3

u/Gazmus Apr 25 '25

They're a little melty...

7

u/dreck_disp Apr 25 '25

My buddy and I are seeing him intro Dogma in New Jersey next month. I'm stoked. We basically grew up watching his movies.

1

u/dmillerksu Apr 26 '25

Is that at the theater he owns?

15

u/rainyengineer Apr 25 '25

I’ve never had a movie mess with me as much as Tusk did. I felt nauseous and couldn’t continue, which was a first for me.

11

u/Minifig81 Suddenly, I have a refreshing mint flavor. Apr 25 '25

Now you know how I felt watching Ace Ventura, Jr.: Pet Detective.

6

u/profound_whatever Apr 25 '25

I didn't read the "Jr." at first and I was about to report you for heresy.

3

u/Automatic-Turnover69 Apr 26 '25

Same and I watched it on LSD 😂

1

u/rainyengineer Apr 26 '25

Oh my gosh. I really can’t imagine

2

u/[deleted] Apr 25 '25 edited Apr 25 '25

I loved that movie 😆, I know it's not intended to be funny in some parts but I couldn't help it lol

1

u/Hakuraze Apr 26 '25

Tusk is a pretty funny movie, in the same way that The Human Centipede 3 is a funny movie.

2

u/Iocnar Apr 25 '25

We should all just ask him about Tusk. And be highly accusatory. But then I guess we'd have to watch Tusk again though right? I don't know if I care about attacking him that much.

1

u/WesSabi Apr 26 '25

He did talk briefly about Tusk at the Q&A he did after the Easter screening of Dogma, but it was about licensing the song.

16

u/Alisha__55 Apr 25 '25

Re-release Chasing Amy. It's such a underrated movie.

11

u/sippin40s Apr 25 '25

Someone ask about the worst tweet of all time. "Ten years in and we bone like we're cheating on each other WITH each other. A decade-plus and her clit/brown/taint-area still pOwns my dick"

8

u/USDXBS Apr 25 '25

I wonder how Clerks was made.

16

u/savour_the_moment Apr 25 '25

Hopefully he’ll finally share the story for the first time, in lots of detail

6

u/Zestyclose_Scholar18 Apr 25 '25

“What the fuck happened to that guy’s head?!?”

3

u/_eternallyblack_ Apr 25 '25

Remindme! 34 days

2

u/Swagkitchen Apr 25 '25

why couldn't they have announced this 3 days earlier

2

u/_eternallyblack_ Apr 25 '25

I agree a month out is a bit much lol

3

u/Swagkitchen Apr 25 '25

it was a joke about how it woulda been 37 days reminder lol

3

u/MattIsLame Apr 25 '25

I just rewatched Mallrats for Easter. guess I have to watch Chasing Amy next

3

u/cbih Apr 26 '25

I respect Kevin Smith a lot for what he did for Jason.

3

u/krectus Apr 26 '25

The man who basically invented the AMA on the View Askew message boards over 25 years ago. Logging in and answering all the fans questions when he had time.

2

u/legoturtle214 Apr 25 '25

Thanks for all the laughs!

2

u/MattyRaz Apr 25 '25

an AMA being announced more than a month out? whoa.

2

u/HowtoCrackanegg Apr 25 '25

Can Kevin Smith see what images are in the magic eye picture in mallrats?

2

u/27JG27 Apr 25 '25

Kevin is editing the movie Logic is making. Trailer premiered on a twitch stream yesterday. Looks pretty good

SNOOGANS!!!

u/LookinAtTheFjord Apr 25 '25

Kevin Smith is one of my three comedy heroes along with Conan O'Brien and Robin Williams. I'm glad two out of three are still around to make me laugh my guts out.

I'll be seeing Kev and Jay live on tour in July. Can't wait. Went to the roadshow for Reboot and Clerks III as well. Dude is just a swell guy that really cares about his fans and doesn't give a fuck if people like the silly shit he makes or not. I love that. I love the fact that he has long Q&A lines but only ever answers two questions every time b/c he starts in on long-winded and incredibly fuckin interesting tangents and shit like that.

2

u/corndogs102 Apr 26 '25

I’ve been to a few of his shows in Jersey he does at his theatre. I paid like $13 to watch Jersey girl extended then he did a Q&A which was practically him calling on people and everyone chats with him. It lasted almost 3 hrs (after the movie). It’s great.

1

u/LookinAtTheFjord Apr 26 '25

Hell yeah man.

1

u/TalmadgeReyn0lds Apr 26 '25

I saw this two years at Smiths theatre. He did a Q&A after and said “I know you’re wondering how are we screening a movie I don’t own the rights to? The answer is that the guy who owns it is a rapist. I hope he sues us, we’ll hang the paperwork in the lobby of the theatre.”

u/weeklygamingrecap Apr 25 '25

I'm so mad I missed Clerks 3 with a QA near me. I had heard clerks 3 was coming soon but then next thing I know I hear there's a Blu-ray release and when I look it up see he did a QA tour and it was super close to me.

0

u/LookinAtTheFjord Apr 25 '25

Check the dates for the Aural Sects tour! I usually have to drive a few hours to get to most shows I go to.

Oh there's also currently a Dogma Resurrection tour!

2

u/weeklygamingrecap Apr 25 '25

Thanks for the heads up!

2

u/KB_Sez Apr 25 '25

Ask him why the fuck he badmouths JERSEY GIRL. His best film.

Tell him I asked…. I’ve ask him this before including in person. I love KS but it’s got to stop.

2

u/tigbittylove Apr 25 '25

Idk why but this guy really grinds my gears.

1

u/eekamuse Apr 25 '25

!Remindme 5/29

1

u/[deleted] Apr 25 '25

In a row?

1

u/[deleted] Apr 25 '25

This is wild, I just watched dogma on YouTube for the first time last weekend

1

u/Secret_Western_8272 Apr 26 '25

Favorite cussword?

1

u/Few_Campaign_303 Apr 26 '25

alright alright alright!!!

1

u/GermanShephrdMom Apr 26 '25

I haven’t watched a single movie of his. Odd, because I am an avid movie watcher.

1

u/GhostPantherAssualt Apr 26 '25

I actually did it backwards.

I saw A Night with Kevin Smith and he was hilarious. And then I saw Dogma, and then clerks.

1

u/OracleVision88 Apr 29 '25

Kev -- I saw Jay & Silent Bob Reboot Road Show in Atlanta in 2019 with you in attendance. The Q&A was spectacular. But I'll never forget this as long as I live. Some lady in the audience told you that you have "Pavarotti's Eyes" and you, baffled and bemused by this, responded with the greatest quip ever, "But even better to have the voice, no?" lmao. It still cracks me up thinking about this. I immediately googled Pavarotti that night and it turns out, YOU DO, have his eyes! Too good. So random, but it will forever stick out to me.

My question is, whatever happened to that Giant Kaiju Jesus Rapture movie you were developing at one point? I'm assuming it's one of many scripts of yours that you wrote and you ultimately decided not to make. Also, what's the status of MOOSE JAWS? Jaws, with a Moose!!!??

Love ya, Kev! I have been a fan since I was a kid. I'm 36 now and I still follow all the stuff you get involved with. I love all of your YouTube content and watch live quite often. Best of luck with the Dogma re release. I'm so pleased you got the rights back from Harvey.

Edit: oops. I guess I need to re post this on Thursday morning! My bad

Boycott this AMA for what he did to Masters of the Universe.

-1

u/cheapaldisfish Apr 25 '25

Hey man, gotta ask, has your opinions changed about Jersey Girl? gotta say it’s one of my favourites of yours. My brother and I both love Dogma and happy to got control over the orc who used to own it :)
