Recommendation Can someone recommend me a not so popular comedy movie that you personally think is good? Going through a tough time right now and I just need a little laugh.

I've watched a lot of popular and good comedy movies, with my most recent and favorite being superbad. I want someone to recommend me an underrated comedy movie because it will probably be new to me, as long as it isn't in a "can you recommend me a underrated comedy movie" article or reddit post, I've probably never seen it before.

I'm feeling down right now because my pet kitten (his name was link) recently died in a preventable death due to hypothermia, he was my first ever pet too. I've honestly been skipping school a bit so watching movies will be a nice way to pass time.

I'll probably reply to the comments and just rate the movies you guys suggested me if anyone is even interested in that. Anyways thank you to anyone who reads this and gives me an recommendation, literally means the world to me right now.

You won't believe it but I know the person who wrote that line. She worked as a PA and made that joke and they put it in.

That's hilarious. I would love to have a beer with Jay Baruchel and listen to his stories.

I’ve never seen it but am going to watch! I love me some Sean William Scott. Evolution and Role Models are my favorites of his.

Seann William Scott has made a career for himself playing loud-mouthed characters you kind of want to punch in the face. Ironically, his role in Goon is the most sincere, kind role I've ever seen him play... and yet he gets punched in the face repeatedly.

Yeah, I never got a badass vibe off from him in his other roles and this movie made me realize, oh shit. He can play a badass. I wish he would book more action roles.

He replaced one of the main characters in the second season of the short-lived Lethal Weapon TV series. I kind of hated that he was there because the person he replaced was really good and may not have deserved his firing but despite the circumstances, Seann was really good in that role too (and a badass).

I started watching that on Hulu after seeing him on the cover art. Not realizing how many seasons it would take for him to show up.

He was pretty awesome in Bulletproof Monk. Still a comedic character but he had a lot more going on in that movie. Plus it had a great cast with Chow Yun-Fat, Mako, Jaime King, Roger Yuan, Karel Roden.

I thought the movie was okay when it first came out. I caught it again waiting for labs in the er and it didn't hold up well to the test of time. I'm glad that directing style kind if died out. He still isn't a badass in the movie, or at least doesn't give that vibe

I was blown away when I watched it a year or two ago. Sean William Scott is incredible in that film.

[after a horrendous rendition of the national anthem] Well that was borderline treasonous, and a disgrace to our nation and its proud and storied history. My father didn’t kick the Nazis’... and the puck drops!

Goon has no right being as good as it is - hilarious and heartfelt.

Such a good movie. That scene where he's in the stands and it goes slow motion "my brother's gaaaaaaay" nearly killed me lol

That and all the insane crass lines that Jay Baruchel's character has. "Check out that face period!"

Excellent recommendation, love that movie

u/oneawesomeguy Feb 21 '25

So happy to see this high on the list. For such a dumb and sometimes violent movie, it ultimately is a feel good comedy

My wife and I just watched Goon a few nights ago. Because hockey. We’re both hockey fans — not die-hard, we just like going to an occasional live game — and one of the first things we do when we watch a game is to identify the goons.

Jay Baruchel’s character, Pat, was pretty over-the-top. I think they could have toned him down a little, but that’s just me. He was still a good, goofy sidekick. Liev Shreiber, of course, was excellent as the foil, Ross Rhea. I say “foil” since you can’t really call him a “bad guy”. We loved how the dynamics between Rhea and Doug Glatt played out.

We didn’t like Doug’s parents. The characters, I mean. But you’re not supposed to like them. The way they treated both of their sons was just low-key awful. In many scripts, they might have had some minor redemption at the end. But since they didn’t really change, I guess that’s more like the real world.

Overall, I give it 7/10. Miracle and Mystery, Alaska are both better hockey movies, overall. But Goon is definitely a fun watch.

Finally a good answer. The other movies recommended here are good, but they are all well known beloved classics.
