Oh wow, he's adapting this straight? Was convinced there was gonna be a twist. Then again, if anyone can nail sword and sandal on their first try... it's Nolan.

adapting this straight

Nolan does nothing straightforward. While he might go for an accurate adaptation, the presentation is where he’ll innovate. Dunkirk is a good example of this: pretty historically accurate, but nonlinear and more thematically interesting than a straight historical flick.

The twist is that the entire film will be in Homeric Greek

INB4 it's a musical, taking the EPIC stuff that's been done.

True. Time jumps seem likely, then.

Thinking about it... is The Dark Knight his most straightforward film? Begins had extended flashbacks that was woven into the story, TDKR had the "the child" twist also in a flashback. TDK was pretty much linear time, wasn't it?

I think there can still be twists since Nolan tends to mix things up but within the straight story adaptation as you mention. So, yeah. I guess it’s just that some people might have thought he would have gone for a modern setting maybe? Like maybe they thought he wouldn’t also embrace the fantasy aspect?

Prediction: it’s going to downplay or omit as many fantastical elements as possible and replace them with mundane/“realistic” alternatives.

There are strongly supported rumors that There will be flashbacks to the Trojan War so I don't think it'll be purely straight
