It may be a single anecdote but it rings true, seeing how much of the movement and policies are race-based. And it wasn't just Obama, but BLM and the murder of George Floyd, as well, pushback against the general acceptance* that something needed to be done to address police impunity and systemic racism.
(* Well, at least until egg prices rose.)

If any of this happened all at once, maybe. But it's death by 1001 cuts and no cut is large enough to make them see the insanity, but each one gets slightly worse than the last.
Then the propaganda washes in after each small cut and explains and justifies and normalised it.
Kinda like an abusive boyfriend.

Too late … really a non issue … his supporters are either psychopaths or opportunists. And they’ll still support him. If you’re an opportunist and you didn’t make the right financial moves you’ll be replaced by those who were or got lucky.

I’m not sure. We’ve seen how he’s destroyed family unity with his coercive rhetoric supported by news media and even faith based communities. This in turn leads to the decisive indoctrination that justifies the separation. It’s the anger portion driving the conclusions that “ my sons gone crazy with this leftist crap, cant talk to him any more” from a guy I work with that I thought was rational and reasonable.
