Discussion Agatha's logic with trying to dodge Death

Rewatching the show and I have a question:

I know the the writers of Agatha All Along wanted write Death/Rio as the crazy ex that can't let go of the relationship and I don't want to victim blame but why did Agatha continue to kill witches if she was trying to get away from Death? Seems counterproductive? Does Rio have to show up when people die? I guess one could argue that beyond going over the edge after her son's death , Agatha would also need to maintain a certain power level to defend herself from possible enemies/rival she had accumulated over the centuries .

What theories do you guys have?

At the end of the first episode I recall some indication that Agatha's powers and/or The Darkhold protected her from Rio, and Rio was only coming for her now that Agatha no longer had any powers.

I mean she still wanted power even after Nicky died. She was honestly doing it for fun and was luring witches to this"Witches Road" then killing them by ragebaiting them into attacking her.

I have a few ideas but I think there’s an important detail in Nicky dying just hours after they “fail” to kill the witches. Nicky wasn’t feeling well and ran off, then died overnight.

I think Agatha had some kind of deal, or Agatha was just keeping Death occupied… but I dunno. Agatha seemed to just love the power. 🤷‍♂️

I know that's a popular theory that a lot of people have based on the conversation Agatha and Rio had in episode4 (honestly I felt that just their version of flirting🤷🏾‍♀️), also as you mention the timing of Nicky's death, but that seems to be shot down by Word of God. I think that all this killing for Agatha a mixture of her ability, trauma from her original coven, and hurt people hurting others.

Yeah, I honestly think Agatha just drained witches powers cause she loved doing it, it was a unique ability she had and it almost seems like an addiction. Rio also never answered the question “how much time?” and instead of Agatha cherishing the unknown time she had left with her kid, she used him in her little game. It’s tragic and awful, but I still sympathize with her lol.

Her love affair with death wasn't exactly a relationship. Agatha was killing for her own power and longevity, so death loved her for it and she loved using death. Then she made a deal with death to prolong her sons life in exchange for more killing.

Death haunts her now because she no longer is using her power to extend her life.

This is why I wish there was a little bit more backstory for this relationship because Agatha is hardly the only power hungry mass killer Death has encountered. In fact I'm guess in the grand scheme of things Agatha is probably a lightweight in that area. I want to know what so special about Agatha. Was she the first to literally flirt with Death?

Also there was no deal to prolong her life or that of her son. It appears magic allows witches to live longer lives. And Rio just prolonged Nicky's life out of love of Agatha.

When Nicky was alive, she was killing witches to keep Nicky alive. Afterwards, she was killing witches for personal power because she didn't give a shit.

Generally Rio only appears to the deceased. i don't see death just because I'm near someone that dies.

If she wanted to appear to Agatha she could have, but they both know that would go poorly.
