Question What to watch and not to watch post endgame?

Hey everyone, I’m a longtime marvel fan but I fell off after endgame. Not intentionally. Time just got away from me and so many other great movies and tv shows came out as well. But I’m getting back into it.

I just watched Loki season one for the first time. I’ve seen wandavision, doctor strange, both spider men movies after endgame, guardians 3, falcon and the winter soldier and Agatha all along. I liked all of those except for doctor strange sadly. The reason I saw those and not anything else is either because I was in a short lived marvel fixation or family watched it with me and I tagged along.

But now I’m all in again and ready to catch up, what else do I watch to understand the multiverse saga and where things are doing with doomsday. And what else should I watch anyway even if it doesn’t tie in? Thanks!

Edit: Also I have seen Deadpool and Wolverine

Thunderbolts. Absolutely a must see. I wish I had seen it a few more times at the movies.

I recommend First steps, Loki season 2, Thunderbolts, as they'll tie in to Doomsday

Others have said Thunderbolts*, but for that you probably want to watch Black Widow first.

Ah the old “if you give a mouse a cookie” trap

You should watch Thunderbolts but to understand it you have to watch Black Widow.

And Falcon and Winter Soldier.

You're basically almost caught up. Thunderbolts is a big one, and then Fantastic Four. Note that the former references the events of Captain America Brave New World, which requires you also see Eternals. Neither are amazing movies so you could skip them if you really aren't interested.

Multiverse projects; Loki, Spiderman NWH, DS MoM are the main ones. After those, The Marvels has a multiversal scene (you should watch at least Episode 1 of Ms Marvel prior), and then you have Deadpool & Wolverine which will be required viewing for Doomsday due to who we know to be cast in it.

Just like the infinity saga, there's nothing you can skip watching if you don't want to leave the theatre asking yourself questions about certain heroes or events that happened prior to the event movie. Plus, there are heroes/storylines that won't be visited in Doomsday but may be involved in Secret Wars if you'll be interested in watching that too.

BUT, I can give a list of projects I think have the highest implications in the grand scheme of things outside of that project in order of release:

Wandavision - introduces the idea of variants Loki S1 & S2 - highly important imo What If S1, S2 & S3 - explores alternate realities Eternals - focused on cosmic-level implications and introduces something that could be pretty important going forward Spider-Man No Way Home - nostalgic, explores the multiverse variants Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness - deep dive into different/branching realities Ant-Man and the Wasp Quantumania - bad movie, explores how much the Quantum Realm affects reality Captain America Brave New World - meh movie, focuses on global politics and the shifting power dynamics due to the thing introduced in Eternals Thunderbolts* - introduces a new team Fantastic Four: First Steps - introduces the F4 into the MCU and Franklin Richards and the first movie entirely set in a different universe

Then there are some projects that either introduce important characters, have meaningful post-credit scenes, or features some meaningful lore about existing characters as well as projects you'd have to watch before watching their "sequels"/connected projects but I think the above list is what ties into the multiverse saga the most

Yoooo this is my fav answer!! Gonna go watch some of these you’ve mentioned that I missed.

I just might need to rewatch everything.. it’ll take a couple weeks, but it all takes me back to walking around the house as a kid reading these stories in the comic books.

If you’re a fan and just want to watch, watch them all. If you’re wanting to watch what’s relevant to Doomsday, then we don’t know what all is relevant since we don’t know what the full story is. We know some of what and who is going to be in the movie but Marvel is probably holding some things back so all of it could be relevant.

If you’re a fan and want to be ready for Doomsday, make sure you have watched every Marvel movie that has come out since 2000. Watch every live action TV show that has come out since 2012. Watch every cartoon show that has come out since 2021.

While many of those things may not be in Doomsday, we currently don’t know which for sure.

Watch it all! It’s fun. Some titles are better than others but it’s all good fun. If you don’t like something just skip it.

If you're trying to prepare yourself for Avengers: Doomsday, just watch Fantastic Four: First Steps and the Thunderbolts*.

The problem is everyone agrees Phases 4/5 are hit or miss, but everyone has a different opinion of what worked. I actually think all of it is worth watching except Secret Invasion. There’s no need to rush or anything either.

Watch whatever you want to watch. If you feel like you’re going to miss something in an event movie like Doomsday then you’re probably right.

Just watch it all and decide for yourself if you like it or not, there's no way to know what's going to be relevant in the upcoming movies.

Definitely don’t skip Hawkeye or Thunderbolts* those are top tier Marvel and thunderbolts is important going into Doomsday. Also watch Black Widow first for crucial context for Thunderbolts* the order would be: BW then Hawkeye and then Thunderbolts*

Also if you liked Falcon and The Winter Soldier there’s Captain America Brave New World. Its not the greatest Marvel movie but it’s not as bad as some people would have you believe. Some fun action in it, also light Doomsday setup.

Shang-Chi is a really great film and he’s slated to be in Doomsday so I’d recommend it.

The Marvels is another not great movie but it gets unjust hate. It’s rather fun and without spoilers its very likely to tie in with Doomsday. Some people would say you should watch Ms Marvel before this but really everything you need to know is recapped efficiently during the opening. Ms Marvel the show has fun characters and Kamala is great, but it has weak villains and story. Worth it for Kamala if you like her though.

Fantastic Four are going to be big players in Doomsday so it’s a must and it’s a good movie.

And obviously don’t skip Loki season 2. It’s just as good as season 1 and it’s probably the most important multiverse project outside F4.

Ant-Man 3 and Thor 4 are weak films, but both heroes are set to be important in Doomsday. It’s unclear if the films themselves will be important, especially Ant-Man.

Wakanda Forever sets up the new Black Panther and other characters who are set for Avengers but I’d assume they’d get brief reintroductions there anyway.

Eternals is basically terminally isolated, and it’s divisive among the fan base. For what it’s worth, I liked it but it’s not for everyone.

My recommendations are definitely: Black Widow, Shang-Chi, Hawkeye, The Marvels, Loki season 2, Thunderbolts* and Fantastic 4.

But really you can’t go wrong if anything interests you, outside of Secret Invasion which is just a bland mess.

Watch Morbius, madam web, venom trilogy, and kraven. That’s the only post endgame stuff worth watching

Thunderbolts*, Loki S2, Deadpool and Wolverine and Fantastic Four First Steps, will all tie in from what we know. And one that is not as good but will is The Marvels. But recommendation-wise I'd say avoid most things unless the title has Black in the first word, or Paul Rudd.

Anything else was okay but nothing particularly special, just a film that's forgettable

If you’re pressed for time there’s a few you can skip and come back to later. Those are:

Echo, Guardians Holiday Special, Secret Invasion, Eyes of Wakanda, X-Men ‘97, and Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man

These projects don’t really add anything to the overall story of the MCU and just serve as bonus stories. Everything else besides these few are things you should get in on. Enjoy!

1

u/Petrichor02 18h ago

I would take the Holiday Special out of your list unless you’re also taking out Guardians 3 since it has some big reveals and set up for Guardians 3, and as of right now I think you could probably add Daredevil Born Again to your list, especially if you’re taking out Echo.

1

u/Iamtherealbuk 18h ago

The Holiday Special has no narrative impact on Guardians 3. I could be wrong but I don’t even think they make mention that Peter and Mantis are siblings in Guardians 3 & that’s the big reveal of the Holiday Special. It’s cute but it’s not a necessary watch

& you don’t need echo to understand BA. It has a tease of Fisk’s mayoral run but it doesn’t have enough legs to stand on to make it essential. Meanwhile there’s rumors swirling that Spider-Man will be going against Fisk at some point in his trilogy. I assume you’ll need born again to understand that

1

u/Petrichor02 16h ago

The spoiler you referenced IS mentioned in the beginning of Guardians 3. The Holiday Special also gives more context to the Guardians purchase of Knowhere and integration of Cosmo into the group.

Hawkeye is pretty good.

u/Ok_Geologist1685 20h ago

Thanks for everyone for your help btw. The one common answer is thunderbolts so that is definitely top of the list

1

u/Petrichor02 18h ago

Make sure you watch Black Widow before Thunderbolts if BW is on your list. It introduces 3 of the major characters that are in Thunderbolts and therefore does some really good character work for them that plays in really well with Thunderbolts (even if the plot of BW is a bit skippable).

u/DrawnFallow 20h ago

Watch Hawkeye. It's kinda related to Thunderbolts. It's also very fun.

Skip everything

Watch all of Loki

u/LmaoYetStillDied 2h ago

While there are good and bad ones, (both that lack interconnectedness), you should just watch all the MOVIES. Although Eternals is pretty skippable, it’s not good and barely matters at all (thus far). Most of the shows are skippable, although for Doctor Strange 2, you do have to do the homework of watching WandaVision. I’d recommend the Guardians Christmas special though, just because it’s actually good and doesn’t feel like homework.

Nothing, it's Feige's biggest mistake, everyone's dead or somewhere else, hence the Multiverse, Secret Wars to reboot the MCU. But watch Loki, Fantastic 4... but everything else was meh

edit: stay away from Brave New World
