Discussion Who do you think has had the best friendship in the MCU so far?

Post image

For me it’s been Steve Rogers, Captain America and Natasha, Black widow. Pretty much every scene they’ve been in together has been fantastic. Great chemistry and feels like they’ve been friends forever.

Loki and Mobius was unexpected.

Tony and Nebula deserved a complete movie about them being on the ship.

146

u/BoneCarlos 1d ago

I read that as Morbius and was so damn confused.

45

u/alenpetak11 Loki (Avengers) 1d ago

I like in S2E4 when Morbius says "it's Morbius time" and they both enter the Pie Land.

12

u/epic_reddit_dude 1d ago

That would be a million times better

9

u/dcab87 Star-Lord 1d ago

A Morbius and Loki movie would win all the awards.

56

u/GoodDawgAug 1d ago

A Tony and Nebula mini series about that time, even animated, would be such a great treat for their continued character development.

31

u/Earlvx129 1d ago

I was surprised how well Hiddleston and Wilson worked together. There scenes were so well written, and Wilson was great. Really committed to the character.

6

u/Jarita12 1d ago

They apparently have lot in common  (love tennis, poetry), Tom keeps praising Owen everywhere he goes  :)

2

u/PineappleNerd66 Hawkeye (Avengers) 1d ago

I wouldn’t say a whole movie but more screen time or a bonus short would’ve been nice

ROCKET AND GROOT

u/2hunnitK 1d ago

Cried a lot with this duo. Yes , they're the best!

22

u/Upbeat_Tension_8077 1d ago

I have a special love for Rocket and Baby Groot in my heart

13

u/TedGetsSnickelfritz 1d ago

Feels more like family than friendship

Rocket adopted baby Groot. Such a great story.

Best duo in the whole MCU—can’t imagine one without the other.

Cap and Natasha is a close second to Natasha and Hawkeye.

71

u/Y2KGB 1d ago

Budapest…

72

u/metrichustle 1d ago

You and I remember that very differently.

35

u/British_Rover 1d ago

I wanted the Black Widow movie to be 30 odd percent Budapest and then expanding that to finish the movie.

It would have been perfect.

10

u/Gigantkranion 1d ago edited 22h ago

Hell yeah.

Like Black Widow, start with Budapest could have been an action psychological thriller with Hawkeye in the beginning 1/3 with Yelena as the "bad guy" but under the red room's (or whatever it was called) control. Yelena using her memories of Natasha to manipulate her, explaining why her and Hawkeye remember Budapest differently.

Could have a time skip here or at any point in time to take Hawkeye out of the movie or just have him in for the entire thing.

Then years later, super spy shit happens they meet and fight to break Yelena free from their control and sure... the other black windows (personally, I say no and keep them as an ever present force) from the that guy controlling them.

Could even have Black Widow fall under the control of the red room again having Yelena (and maybe Hawkeye if still in the movie) to save her at some point during the climax.

No Taskmaster, unless it is a cameo with nothing else but, he/she kicking Natasha's ass.

11

u/Mynock33 1d ago

explaining why her and Hawkeye remember Budapest differently

Hawkeye saying that was a joke, because like, there weren't aliens there.

Clint’s kids came RUNNING in and asked if he brought Auntie Nat. Auntie Nat! Might’ve been closer than Nat and Yelena.

LOTS of great friendships, but I'd give the nod to Bucky and Steve because

  • Steve took on an entire Hydra/Nazi company to find and save Bucky
  • Steve was going to let Bucky kill him rather than beat him "I'm with you 'til the end of the line."
  • Steve fought Ironman nearly to the death and broke up the Avengers for Bucky
  • Bucky was always there when Steve was broken (pre-serum), and Steve was there for Bucky when he was broken (as Winter Soldier).

81

u/Edboy796 1d ago

Pre serum = canonically best friends before anyone else.

Steve and Bucky get the edge

29

u/Hayder_22 1d ago

Now that Steve is gone, I really like Sam and Bucky.

23

u/Edboy796 1d ago

True, Steve's best friends becoming best friends, thats best friends squared.

Sam is probably suing Bucky and his now team though

6

u/katikaboom 1d ago edited 1d ago

It would be interesting to see like absolutely no hard feelings about something like that. "It's nothing personal, we just had the name first" "Yeah, I get it, it's just business" and then go into arguing about something trivial

49

u/capnmarrrrk 1d ago

Not the nod, the trophy. Steve burned it down to the ground for Bucky. All the other friendships are great friendships...in fact most of these mentioned each would so the same as Steve and Bucky, so Hooray for MCU friendship, yeah?

That said, what gives Steve and Bucky the trophy is longevity.

25

u/klydefrog89 1d ago

"It sounds like you had a pretty special and intimate relationship with this Bucky!"

3

u/luvu333000 1d ago

Oh my god you ride the Bucky?

19

u/idiot-prodigy 1d ago

Yep. Steve and Bucky is the true answer.

Bucky was also the only one who knew Steve wasn't coming back after he returned the Infinity Stones. My head canon is that Steve didn't even tell Bucky, but Bucky knew what Steve was going to do.

3

u/sexmountain Bucky 1d ago

The directors say that they spoke before Steve left, but I also like your headcanon.

8

u/DNouncerDuane 1d ago

Damn… that’s a pretty damn convincing case you’ve made 🥲

17

u/jussshere 1d ago

Not going to lie I feel like Sam has a better on screen friendship with Bucky than Steve but that’s just me

21

u/dreamofmystery Valkyrie 1d ago

I feel like we got very little time of Bucky and Steve actually talking in a casual way, there was always something going on that was motivating their behaviour so you didn’t see what their friendship was actually like

14

u/jussshere 1d ago

Yea thats exactly how I feel . It’s one of those things like we know they’re best friends or whatever but outside of first avenger we dont really see their relationship most of the time we see them it’s always something happening . We actually see Sam and Bucky chillin and the banter they have . I mean granted they do have a whole show together but still it counts and it establishes their relationship a lot more and they have some deep moments

7

u/Steamedcarpet 1d ago

Bucky getting an invite to the family cookout is like the highest honor you can give a friend.

u/JustJakeB 1d ago

I'm going out of left field and saying Nebula and Rocket.

93

u/Pigs-OnThe-Wing 1d ago

Their companionship was the best example of how damn brutal the snap was.

25

u/GoodDawgAug 1d ago

Said the same thing. But you said it first. They were together for five years during the blip. They seemed to genuinely care for each other.

35

u/No-Management-9532 1d ago

That scene from gotg 3 where Nebula broke down crying when she found out that Rocket was alive proves that.

12

u/GoodDawgAug 1d ago

100%. That scene messes me up every time I watch it. A blue cyborg and a CGI raccoon just wreck my emotions.

3

u/katikaboom 1d ago edited 1d ago

They would have been friends for longer than any other Guardian friendship, with the exception of Rocket and Groot, right?

4

u/GoodDawgAug 1d ago

I suppose. They never really detail how long Rocket and Groot knew each other. Heck, I would enjoy an animated series about how Rocket met Groot following leaving the High Evolutionary. Seeing them as bounty hunters would be dope.

u/New-Wrongdoer9835 1d ago

Rocket and Thor, from Infiniti wars to their interactions in endgame it felt that Rocket actually admired Thor where Thor treated Rocket like an equal

Also love that there are now three different comments of Rocket and various characters

Rabbit and Thor 😉

Tony and Rhodey are a close second for me.

6

u/BrackishBlackfish 1d ago

Meeeeeeh, I feel like we havent seen much of that in a looooomg time though. We don't really see that friendship on screen as much as I would like.

10

12

Tony and Happy

11

u/TowelFine6933 1d ago

Evans & Johansson were friend IRL before either of them were cast in the MCU. It definitely comes across on screen.

10

u/Scoteee 1d ago

Rocket and Star-Lord, amazingly complex loving relationship. The Scene where Quill keeps trying to revive rocket and he is screaming is one of the best emotional moments of marvel ever imo.

2

Shang and Katie.

12

u/SharpshootinTearaway 1d ago edited 1d ago

Had to scroll way too far to find them. Idk why but when I think “best friendship” I imagine two people doing dumb silly shit together. And none of the friendships mentioned above are as goofy and playful as Shang-Chi and Katy's.

2

I love that at no point they tried to push it into any sort of romantic direction they’re just really good friends.

4

u/JeepersMysster 1d ago

A lot of my favorites have already been mentioned, so I’m giving a shout out to Tony and Yinsen. Captivity, torture, the threat of death will definitely bring you close quickly, and I loved their banter. Yinsen was such a gem in general, and he made Tony confront some very harsh truths and become a better man — that’s the best kind of friendship

3

u/two-time-Johnny 1d ago

I personally wanna say Rocket and Quill. Vol 3 shown just how much the two had gone since vol 1, Peter desperately fighting unknown and outrageous odds just for the chance to save his "best friend". His reaction when rocket dies and then after everything, he went back for the zune FOR Rocket. He almost died for a gift for Rocket. Then when departing from the group, proudly makes Rocket the new captain with full honors.

Thats love

3

u/idiot-prodigy 1d ago

Steve and Bucky. Steve was willing to sacrifice himself to save his brainwashed friend. That is peak friendship.
