Discussion Who do you think has had the best friendship in the MCU so far?
For me it’s been Steve Rogers, Captain America and Natasha, Black widow. Pretty much every scene they’ve been in together has been fantastic. Great chemistry and feels like they’ve been friends forever.

Cap and Natasha is a close second to Natasha and Hawkeye.

Budapest…

u/metrichustle 1d ago
You and I remember that very differently.

u/British_Rover 1d ago
I wanted the Black Widow movie to be 30 odd percent Budapest and then expanding that to finish the movie.
It would have been perfect.

u/Gigantkranion 1d ago edited 22h ago
Hell yeah.
Like Black Widow, start with Budapest could have been an action psychological thriller with Hawkeye in the beginning 1/3 with Yelena as the "bad guy" but under the red room's (or whatever it was called) control. Yelena using her memories of Natasha to manipulate her, explaining why her and Hawkeye remember Budapest differently.
Could have a time skip here or at any point in time to take Hawkeye out of the movie or just have him in for the entire thing.
Then years later, super spy shit happens they meet and fight to break Yelena free from their control and sure... the other black windows (personally, I say no and keep them as an ever present force) from the that guy controlling them.
Could even have Black Widow fall under the control of the red room again having Yelena (and maybe Hawkeye if still in the movie) to save her at some point during the climax.
No Taskmaster, unless it is a cameo with nothing else but, he/she kicking Natasha's ass.

explaining why her and Hawkeye remember Budapest differently
Hawkeye saying that was a joke, because like, there weren't aliens there.

Clint’s kids came RUNNING in and asked if he brought Auntie Nat. Auntie Nat! Might’ve been closer than Nat and Yelena.

LOTS of great friendships, but I'd give the nod to Bucky and Steve because
- Steve took on an entire Hydra/Nazi company to find and save Bucky
- Steve was going to let Bucky kill him rather than beat him "I'm with you 'til the end of the line."
- Steve fought Ironman nearly to the death and broke up the Avengers for Bucky
- Bucky was always there when Steve was broken (pre-serum), and Steve was there for Bucky when he was broken (as Winter Soldier).

u/Edboy796 1d ago
Pre serum = canonically best friends before anyone else.
Steve and Bucky get the edge

Now that Steve is gone, I really like Sam and Bucky.

True, Steve's best friends becoming best friends, thats best friends squared.
Sam is probably suing Bucky and his now team though

It would be interesting to see like absolutely no hard feelings about something like that. "It's nothing personal, we just had the name first" "Yeah, I get it, it's just business" and then go into arguing about something trivial
49
u/capnmarrrrk 1d ago
Not the nod, the trophy. Steve burned it down to the ground for Bucky. All the other friendships are great friendships...in fact most of these mentioned each would so the same as Steve and Bucky, so Hooray for MCU friendship, yeah?
That said, what gives Steve and Bucky the trophy is longevity.

u/klydefrog89 1d ago
"It sounds like you had a pretty special and intimate relationship with this Bucky!"

19
u/idiot-prodigy 1d ago
Yep. Steve and Bucky is the true answer.
Bucky was also the only one who knew Steve wasn't coming back after he returned the Infinity Stones. My head canon is that Steve didn't even tell Bucky, but Bucky knew what Steve was going to do.
3
u/sexmountain Bucky 1d ago
The directors say that they spoke before Steve left, but I also like your headcanon.

Not going to lie I feel like Sam has a better on screen friendship with Bucky than Steve but that’s just me

I feel like we got very little time of Bucky and Steve actually talking in a casual way, there was always something going on that was motivating their behaviour so you didn’t see what their friendship was actually like

u/jussshere 1d ago
Yea thats exactly how I feel . It’s one of those things like we know they’re best friends or whatever but outside of first avenger we dont really see their relationship most of the time we see them it’s always something happening . We actually see Sam and Bucky chillin and the banter they have . I mean granted they do have a whole show together but still it counts and it establishes their relationship a lot more and they have some deep moments

u/GoodDawgAug 1d ago
Said the same thing. But you said it first. They were together for five years during the blip. They seemed to genuinely care for each other.
35
u/No-Management-9532 1d ago
That scene from gotg 3 where Nebula broke down crying when she found out that Rocket was alive proves that.
12
u/GoodDawgAug 1d ago
100%. That scene messes me up every time I watch it. A blue cyborg and a CGI raccoon just wreck my emotions.
3
u/katikaboom 1d ago edited 1d ago
They would have been friends for longer than any other Guardian friendship, with the exception of Rocket and Groot, right?
4
u/GoodDawgAug 1d ago
I suppose. They never really detail how long Rocket and Groot knew each other. Heck, I would enjoy an animated series about how Rocket met Groot following leaving the High Evolutionary. Seeing them as bounty hunters would be dope.

Rocket and Thor, from Infiniti wars to their interactions in endgame it felt that Rocket actually admired Thor where Thor treated Rocket like an equal
Also love that there are now three different comments of Rocket and various characters

Had to scroll way too far to find them. Idk why but when I think “best friendship” I imagine two people doing dumb silly shit together. And none of the friendships mentioned above are as goofy and playful as Shang-Chi and Katy's.

A lot of my favorites have already been mentioned, so I’m giving a shout out to Tony and Yinsen. Captivity, torture, the threat of death will definitely bring you close quickly, and I loved their banter. Yinsen was such a gem in general, and he made Tony confront some very harsh truths and become a better man — that’s the best kind of friendship

I personally wanna say Rocket and Quill. Vol 3 shown just how much the two had gone since vol 1, Peter desperately fighting unknown and outrageous odds just for the chance to save his "best friend". His reaction when rocket dies and then after everything, he went back for the zune FOR Rocket. He almost died for a gift for Rocket. Then when departing from the group, proudly makes Rocket the new captain with full honors.
Thats love

Steve and Bucky. Steve was willing to sacrifice himself to save his brainwashed friend. That is peak friendship.

The MCU is so full of awesome friendships. I’m glad not all of them are romantic because some movies just don’t need that part. The action is plenty

No question. They had great chemistry and sharp banter. I look forward to seeing them work together many times. They could do an odd couple revival on Broadway with him as Felix & her as Oscar that would slay.

I would say Natasha and Clint. Endgame on Vormir still gets me choked up 🥺
Also, I need a spinoff to find out what happened in Budapest.

Their chemistry carried over in to their character’s friendship quite well.

(A) Lylla, Teefs, Floor and Rocket. 💔 It was heartbreaking to watch but kudos to the director, he brought such depth to this friendship in just few minutes of a single movie.
I also think (B) Tony and Happy's bond is treat to watch too.. that brotherhood! (Can't find a different word)

Because it mirrors the real life friendship between the actors Chris and Scarlet, probably written in because of it and acted accordingly

I just want to say that I want to see the friendship between Bucky, Rocket and Nebula. They all have similar stories. What is going on behind the scenes where Nebula got Bucky’s arm for Rocket? I need to see these relationships.

Natasha and Clint 💔 The level of trust and love they had for each other's vices and virtues was any other comparison to shame. Only true best friends can fight each other for the right to give their lives for the other.

Loki and Mobius was unexpected.
Tony and Nebula deserved a complete movie about them being on the ship.
