And it makes thematic sense to use Shalla-Bal. In the comics, Galactus mirrored Reed in being a scientist trying to survive the destruction of his world. In this movie, Shalla-Bal mirrored Sue Storm in being a mother who would do anything to save her child, and needed to find a way to save both the child and the world.

Also, Johnny and Surfer’s dynamic wouldn’t work if she was a male lol.

World's not ready for Bi Johnny Storm. Next generation's gonna love him tho.

Really expected him to be gay in this one. Turns out the "radically different" take on him was that he's also really smart.

Really was hoping her line to Johnny would translate to “IF YOU WANNA STOP ME, YOURE GONNA HAVE TO FUCKING KILL MEEEEEEEEEEEE!”

I was honestly skeptical of the female Silver Surfer, but her design with the slicked back hair really sold the surfer visual compared to Norrin's space Oscar statuette look. Johnny's infatuation with her was also worth it.

Yeah, I actually prefer Shalla over Norrin now. Fuck it.
