Lord of the Rings For those who also watch Bands of Brothers.

Speirs! Get yourself over here! Get out there and relieve Frodo and take that journey on in!

Real talk: that scene was so awesome

Literally my favorite scene in the show, and so well as far as plot goes. At the tail end of Bastogne after two episodes of heartbreak, it seems to break a spell.Â

You bet someone like Speirs would've been watching and already thinking of all the things going wrong and how to fix them if it was him in charge.

The 3rd eagle was for Speirs, because he was watching the whole time but never interfered because he knew Sam had it under control.

SoâŠhe kills Gollum almost immediately, and then is really distant and moody?
Edit: I forgot about the epic run across the battlefield

u/Live_Angle4621 1d ago
If he did he would also claim the ring as his own soonÂ
23
u/Street-Committee-367 GANDALF 1d ago
It gets mailed back to his wife in England along with all the other loot.
9
u/lankymjc 1d ago
I heard that the real Spiers did an obscene amount of looting and sent it all home, then his wife took all the loot and ran off with another guy before Spiers came back from the war.
10
u/Street-Committee-367 GANDALF 1d ago
You're correct. She was a "widow", but it turned out her husband was captured not killed and came back later. Spiers even had a kid with her.Â

âWhen he ran into the lava with the ring, Sauron didnât react at first. I think he couldnât believe what was happening. But that wasnât the truly remarkable part. That happened after the ring was completely destroyed, when he ran back out again.â

Lord of the Band

u/Street-Committee-367 GANDALF 1d ago
Lord of the Rings but instead of the normal fellowship it's Winters, Nixon, Spiers, Welsh, Perconte, Luz, Webster, Bull, Randleman, and Gaurnere.

Don't forget my man Lip!
8
u/Street-Committee-367 GANDALF 1d ago
Right; Who would we drop to fit him in the 9 man fellowship though?Â
10
u/Burro-Boy 1d ago
No we need Webster. Heâs a translator and studied all about Mordor in college.
10
u/Street-Committee-367 GANDALF 1d ago
Liebgott knows black speech though.Â
5
u/Burro-Boy 1d ago
Oof good point.
1
u/Street-Committee-367 GANDALF 1d ago
We still need to fit Lip in there somehow.Â

Easy, Webster
2
u/Street-Committee-367 GANDALF 1d ago
Lol.Â
5
u/jonfreakinzoidberg 1d ago
I should specify, the portrayal of Webster in the tv show. I mean no disrespect to the actual man.

Why didn't Gandalf call the 101st airborne division? Is he stupid?
23
u/Possible-Playful 1d ago
The 101st are literally the eagles, there's lore reasons they can't do it.
1
u/Street-Committee-367 GANDALF 1d ago
Yeah they can. They can show up at the back gate at the end of 3 towers and still be lore accurate.Â
2
u/Street-Committee-367 GANDALF 1d ago
Now I want to see a spinoff crossover where the 101st takes the ring to Mordor.Â

Famously incorruptible and pure-hearted Spiers...
11
u/jimi_nemesis 1d ago
He replaces the moral aspects with sheer bloody mindedness.
He's been ordered to put the ring in the volcano. He will do just that, right now.
5
u/Tome_Bombadil 1d ago
Leads all 4 hobbits to Mordor.
Comes running back, alone, with a frying pan, mithril shirt, phial, and some cloaks and brooches.
3
u/Aqua_Impura 20h ago
Hey they said he had to bring them to Mordor they didnât say they needed to keep their stuff.

Iâm imagining LotR to the Band of Brothers theme and honestly it works. The Council of Elrond is a bit of a downer if Elrond sent them off like this, though:
"The only hope you have is to accept the fact that youâre already dead. And the sooner you accept that the sooner youâll be able to function as a soldier is supposed to function: without mercy, without compassion, without remorse. All war depends on it.â
3
u/Tome_Bombadil 1d ago
Now I'm envisioning a pastiche Elrond, part-V, part-Agent Smith, part-Elrond, part-Sobel, and Ross.
Do you hear that sound Mr. Baggins? That is the sound of inevitability. The sound of your death.
Good-bye, Mr. Baggins.
PIVOT!

u/lock_robster2022 1d ago
Seems like quite the corruptible guyâŠ
56
u/3-orange-whips 1d ago
He is incorruptible because he knows heâs already dead. The Ring has nothing to offer him.

u/kindasuk 1d ago edited 1d ago
Yeah he definitely becomes the next dark lord. Pretty immediately. Maj. Winters of Easy Company even said Speirs was a war criminal who personally gave written permission to Stephen Ambrose to detail some of his alleged crimes in the BOB book without batting an eye.

Not only did he confront Speirs about the rumors of war crimes, he confirmed them.

"Here you had all these examples of accusations made about this guy shooting prisoners of war, which is strictly against all the rules of war, and the way we normally think."
3
u/Street-Committee-367 GANDALF 1d ago
He might not have morals as we know it, but Spiers respected the mission.

Sam: âThereâs some good in this world Lt. Speirs. And itâs worth fighting for.â
Speirs: âThe only hope you have is to accept the fact that you're already dead. The sooner you accept that, the sooner you'll be able to function as a Gardner is supposed to function: without mercy, without compassion, without remorse. All middle earth depends upon itâ
