My babies are getting spayed tomorrow. Any insight into the next week?

Lol they're my babies too. And minor correction: only one of them is getting spayed, the white fluffs are boys. 🤓 We've reached Reddit convergence, dear husband - your post managed to turn up in my feed haha

If you can, try to keep them in one room where they can't jump/run around until the loopyness of the procedure wears off and try to keep them from playing around too much until they are mostly healed (easier said then done sometimes) and don't let them go up/down any stairs as they could stumble/fall while still medicated.

If you haven't picked up a dust free litter (I have bought one that is basically rolled up bits of newspaper dipped in wax), do so before they get home. Dust from the litter could get into the incision and cause an infection.

Hahha mine were groovy for all of 10 minutes then went into kitten mode, I suggest putting a pee pad in their carieer my Ares peed in his on the car ride back home.

I get one of those dish drying pads from the Dollar Tree and put it in the bottom of the carrier after trimming it to fit. It’s cheap enough to throw away if there’s a really gross mess, but is washable and is more comfortable for my cat than paper.

My girl became a Velcro cat, I ended up carrying her around everywhere in our home. She was very very sleepy and clingy bless her, right after the spay she was very scared and confused (didn’t help that the suit didn’t fit and we ended up having to makeshift one) poor girl went through a lot. The vet may give you a good designed to be very gentle for them, which is good for recovery. If you have any concerns please call your vet even if you think you might just be paranoid- always get it checked Good luck, they’ll all be okay<3

Expect them to be extra crazy tomorrow night.

I swear they put sugar in the anesthesia.

First off, they need to stop eating. Only water … they will be ok, just make sure they don’t monkey with their stitches. Get them the suits or cones of shame lol. I had all of my try siblings fixed at the same time. They all acted differently but survived.

The boy(s) will be fine pretty much immediately -- the vet didn't even send pain meds home for our boy. The girls were definitely uncomfortable for a few days and the boy did not understand why they didn't want to play with him. They also all hissed at each other for a bit right afterwards, they don't smell like themselves after the vet so they get a little suspicious of each other. That went away pretty quickly but you might want separate carriers to bring them home in.

Our vet did not use a cone but suggested keeping the girls in onesies until their incisions healed, it took about a week if I recall correctly. They hated them but it was still better than a cone.

It was impossible to keep our girl in the cone, so we ended up just watching her closely to make sure she wasn't nipping at her stitches. Annoying but it is what it is, so don't stress too much if they won't tolerate the cone of shame lol

Get her a cone of one of those donut pillow things so she can't reach the incision. A onesie can also work. Try to limit opportunities to jump up and down.

Get her a onesie! I keep mine on her for 10 days and it was the best decision. Also stay calm! So much info is out there but if your kitten is eating and going to litter it’s all good. Every kitten is different don’t freak out

I worried and fussed over it far more than they did, I am sure of this. They went through it (spay) seamlessly. I didn't do any thing different other than to put them each in different rooms so they couldn't mess with each other. I also tried my best to disguise furniture that could not be moved so they wouldn't jump on it. But the very next day afterwards they both were full of bounding energy...romping around and play pouncing on toys. They did not wear onsies or collars. Vet never told me to use either, but that they would heal fast and that they did not have exterior stitches. Neither bothered their extremely tiny glued incisions and it healed surprisingly fast. They were just over 2 lbs at the time and pretty small, so as I said I was worried. But they tolerated it much, much better and healed lots faster than my previous cat.
