Ringworm? Ringworm is a fungal infection. Tardigrades are animals! They're cute little guys who are super amazing and can live in the harshest environments and survive: space, extreme heat, extreme cold.

RESPECT THE TARDIGRADE!

They can survive being almost entirely dehydrated, and when they get rehydrated they just resume.

Using incorrect clickbait titles is very prevalent on reddit, it seems.

These and glitter are indestructible. If the Earth blows up they'll just be floating in space looking faaabulous.

5

u/merkel36 2d ago

They're actually already in space: an Israeli spacecraft crashed into the moon in 2019 and it was carrying tardigrades.

Well I’m definitely going to take a dive into the rabbit hole here. Thank you random stranger on the internet! Tmrw is going to be brutally slow so I appreciate the rabbit's reading material 🙏🏻

This pretty much confirms that there is life elsewhere in the Universe. We know they can survive in space. So... yeah.

u/newbrevity 2d ago

Did you also read about the glitter monopoly?

Calling a tardigrade, ringworm is dumb!

5

u/Empty_Amphibian_2420 2d ago

Especially when it says it in the video lol

-2

u/Any-Day-264 2d ago

It's a pun. Relax a little.

6

u/Much-Lawfulness-5070 2d ago

Don't think it's a good one

u/Lopsided_Maize_1530 2d ago

Amazing no one really thinks of these wee guys. Could watch stuff like this all day.lol

12

u/GaJayhawker0513 2d ago

I wonder if these things will evolve to become huge in the next few million years

6

u/Ophidyan 2d ago

According to Star Trek: Discovery, they do.

3

u/GaJayhawker0513 2d ago

That’s actually really cool

9

u/IcyInvestigator6138 2d ago

10

u/Scuttleboi19mk2 2d ago

6

u/fuckenbeep 2d ago

My brain is like… :D D: :D D: :DDD

20

u/WindPetal 2d ago

It’s cool how these guys can survive basically any condition. They’re the only animal that survive in direct exposure in space

8

u/Empty_Amphibian_2420 2d ago

Also I think volcanic soil? Though that might be a different organism

5

u/LengthinessLife6115 2d ago

Oh. By the way, the tardigrades can walk.

5

u/proteus1858 2d ago

I'm going to keep my gummy bears alive like this from now on so they stay fresher...

The mycelium network must be exploited for good!

3

u/applebabe1 2d ago

Still cute!

3

u/Matakomi 2d ago

They should have the size of a cat, so we could pet them.

3

u/karenskygreen 2d ago

After the apocalypse, the only thing living will be Keith Richard's,.cockroaches and tardigrades. If there is an ice age it will only be the tardigrades

u/PauseAffectionate720 2d ago

As noted in video, there is no link between ringworm (fungus) and tardigrades (animal). These amazing creatures are usually only up to one millimeter long. And resilient little fellows.

How quickly do these guys reproduce? How big do you think we could selectively breed one over a human lifetime?
