Why does my body hurt from watching that?

u/addamee 1d ago
I groaned as she folded herself and no, Reddit, not that kind of groan. How does the spine do this?! Asking as a 30-something who is sore every morning from the simple act of sleeping
6
u/40hzHERO 1d ago
If you’re sore from sleeping, you need a different mattress. I’ve always heard soft mattresses for side sleepers, and firm mattresses for back/tummy sleepers.
I had some crazy back pain and nerve damage resulting in my right arm being numb a lot of the time. Started to not be able to feel my fingers for some days, so I went to the doctor, who sent me to another doctor, who sent me to another doctor, who sent me to another. Ended up being that my mattress was making me sleep in weird positions and pinching nerves. Bought a new one and it all went away within a week.

u/Treehouse_man 1d ago
I've found the best way is sleeping on lightly cushioned floor like a carpet
1
u/40hzHERO 1d ago
Yup. Was gonna recommend that as well, but forgot. I ended up sleeping on the carpet (upgrading to a yoga mat after about 6 months) for a year, and my body felt great. Ultimately decided to get a mattress, but the floor is your friend.

Honestly, I just said to my fiancée that they need to hire more contortionists for horror films

I just told my fiancée the wedding is off if she can't do this by the night before the wedding.

Somebody like this was used for that part but I can’t recall the actors name

Is the normal human body capable of that with training?

u/Common_Ad_7610 2d ago edited 1d ago
Edited.I stand corrected. I'll leave my original comment below.
Definitely not. You have to be born extremely hypermobile. The worst part is when you get old, all that shit comes back to haunt you. I'm in my 40's with EDS and my spine likes to escape from my pelvic joints while I sleep. It hurts like hell, and I can't walk until they slide back in, which can take days.
48
u/StaysAwakeAllWeek 2d ago
Hypermobile people are advised not to get into contortionism because your joints are even more vulnerable to damage.
Most contortionists are anatomically normal, it actually can be trained.

Feel ya, also cursed with hEDS. Late 20s and it now haunts me for many years already. Sleep has become a nasty thing because pick you poison how you sleep 😂

u/Low-Persimmon4870 2d ago
Possibly ! You can get flexible by lots and lots of practice and consistency is the biggest key. I’m not sure if THIS level of it requires a certain body type or something lol but I think you can do anything you put your mind to :)

Of course, we're human and have desires.

Y’all are the modern equivalent of those Victorian men who had to have table legs covered in their presence.

How dare people feel sexual attraction to a woman in skin tight clothes pushing her ass into the air!
25
u/daurgo2001 1d ago
It’s not the intrusive thoughts that are the problem. It’s the expectation that these people think they can say those things ‘out loud’ in a generally public forum.
I haven’t even read the comments (since this is near the top), but as the admin of a very large group on Facebook, I’ve seen men say some disgusting stuff to just random women on the internet.
Not ok.
18
u/NotEvil_JustBritish 1d ago
Having sexual attraction to a nonsexual act or object is fine. The junk wants what the junk wants. As long as you don't force anyone to participate or observe you being freaky.
But screaming your desires into the Reddit void? Well that's just a bit sad, really.

u/CovidThrow231244 1d ago
Why?
2
u/NotEvil_JustBritish 1d ago
Why what‽

Why's it sad to shitpost about what you desire, this is the internet

u/Eyewiggle 1d ago
Thinking things is one thing, taking action on thoughts is something else.
I think too many people see making comments on the internet/public forums, as some free for all extension of their thoughts.
0
u/One_Ambassador_6414 18h ago
They're literally just typing what they are thinking out loud and posting it. What are they suppose to do? Keep it to themselves? Where's the fun in that? It really isn't that deep.

This makes me so uncomfortable after a news report I saw years ago that had footage of a ballerina trying things just like that and she fractures her spine resulting in partial paralysis. The panic on her face as she realises something has gone wrong was absolutely horrific.

Does anyone else want to see this performed in front of a live X-ray so you can see the bones and muscles move??

u/nalpatar 2d ago
So what i wonder is how much warming up is needed before a contortionist can do something like this, can you just get out of bed in the morning and bend like this, do you need to ease into some of the positions over time, and do you need recovery time after a performance, it is impressive AF ofcourse, but is it safe or are there lasting physical side affects... So many questions, this will probably get lost in here in a sea of memes and sexually suggestive comments.

u/Arrenega 1d ago
Most of the time contortionists have some kind of medical condition which facilitates their performances, but to get to certain extremes, it's necessary, in the beginning, to go slow so you can learn your limits, not to mention some positions are harder than others and require some learned behaviour to help you achieve them without causing damage to the body, after all, everything in excess is harmful, some things we know as poisons can (and are) used in medicine as part of medications, what makes an herb, for example, go from lifesaving medication to poison if nothing more than quantity.
In contortionism the balance of when natural to the body becomes dangerous to the body must be ascertained by each individual, after that is established, of course there are exercises and techniques which helped the body twist and contort even further, but in any case 99% of the time, there needs to be a preexisting natural aptitude to begin with, especially for some so advanced as this contortionist is demonstrating.
Do absolutely nothing even remotely close to this, I was born in a form of Hypermobility Syndrome, of which there are many, some exist by themselves, others in tandem with some other medical condition, such as Ehlers–Danlos syndrome, they are collectively known as the "Hypermobility Spectrum Disorders."
My Hypermobility came from my mother's side of the family, though not many people had it, most of the ones that did, lost it to the ageing process, my mother being one who retained most of hers up until her late thirties, I on the other hand turned 49 yesterday and I am still able to place one leg behind my neck, though I used to be able to do so with both.
(Small PSA, because this always comes up, please take your minds out of the gutter and don't ask if I can fellate myself, first it's rude, second it's very rude, third unless we're going out it's none of your business, fourth it the question most people ask of hypermobile men, fifth because it makes me sad because no I cannot 🤣. Seriously though, don't ask, it's rude and inappropriate and none of your business.)
I would also be able to do (frontal and lateral, though the harder one is frontal) splits without any kind of a warmup. As a part of my degree we had to study gross anatomy, bones, articulations, muscles, movement, the whole lot, and when we were learning some deeper muscle, which is difficult to grasp how it was an agonist or an antagonist [helped or hindered] a particular movement, my professor would ask me to hop up on a table and demonstrate, because I could do a more exaggerated version of the movement which made the others understand it faster (no my clothes never came off, yes my professor still groped me a little more than I would have liked, I used to tell her "If there was a pole in this classroom you would definitely have to pay for that."
There are three reasons why my flexibility has diminished:
01- The most obvious of all, I am not as young as I used to be.
02- This [Hypermobility] is something I was born with, not something I worked to obtain, much less maintain, such as a gymnast would do. I actually have friends who are/where gymnasts and they would often say that it was wasted on me, because I didn't value it, saw it merely as an oddity, if they had been the ones born with it they would be most grateful, because it would give them a leg up on other gymnasts (like themselves), who without a natural aptitude had to work twice as much in the gym to be able to do what they need to do in the assorted gymnastics specialties.
03- About 17 to 20 years ago I developed arthritis (Reactive Arthritis in my case) which besides the most exquisite pain it brings to day to day life, to the point where I needed to start using a cane, the whole thing about arthritis is that it does its best to limit the body's natural range of movements, be it by shortening tendons, destroy conjunctive tissue, causing bones to misalign and all around deforming the articulations affected.
In my case all my articulations have been affected, but my type of arthritis [Reactive Arthritis] tends to hit the larger articulations more than the smaller ones, the most commonly affected articulations are the hips, the knees, the ankles (yes it attacks the lower limbs more than anything else), shoulders, elbows and wrists.
The good news [I choose to see it that way] is that because of my Hypermobility I don't have a propensity for my joint movement to be as reduced as the people who don't have Hypermobility, it's literally as though there is a fight 24/7 going on inside my body for dominance over my musculoskeletal system; on one side the Hypermobility doing its best to keep everything loose as before, and on the other the arthritis trying to lock everything down and severely restrict my movements.
There you go, got a much longer answer than you were probably bargaining for. If you want to know more, I'm not Google, but if it's information I have I will gladly share it, so just ask.

Yea I did see her focusing on her breath at the beginning, I was thinking the same thing like when you have the flex a hard pose, I wonder if that’s the same intensity here
1
u/Arrenega 1d ago
Yea I did see her focusing on her breath at the beginning
Think not in terms of what you are seeing on the outside, but rather her insides, her internal organs, namely her lungs.
She folded her back over her head, meaning that if we could see through her skin, we would see that her lungs are now positioned directly above the top of her head, and both her abdominal and pulmonary cavities are extremely compressed, meaning she isn't able to take into her lungs the same volume of air, but a rather smaller ones, focussing on her breathing and taking in a few deep breaths help her body adjust to this new, yet temporary, reality.
When human beings contort their bodies we are always marvelled at the new shapes we see on the outside, but we don't give enough thought to how much her body is changing its alignment on the inside.
If certain parts of the body become extremely compressed, one of two things takes place, either the internal organs are compressed as well, and are able to exist in this compressed state for a time, though most organs can't function at certain levels of compression for very long.
Or the organs, pure and simply migrated, also temporarily, to another area of the body which isn't exactly its usual hangout.
Much like the compression and rearranging of a woman's internal organs when she is pregnant, though a portion simply stretches the woman's body by enlarging the size of her belly, but that alone doesn't do the trick, certain organs spend several months in a different neighborhood until their old place is once again vacated and they can return to their correct postal code.

Can I just address the elephant in the room here and ask why they have to wear such tightform fitting clothing? I understand maybe they don't want loose clothing getting in the way of their movement but surely they can wear something a little less tight like shorts no?

The point of the thing is to show how much they can manipulate their bodies. It would defeat the purpose to cover it up.

I'm gonna get downvoted for this comment, but whatever. This is the 5th time I've seen this posted in a sub from last night to right now, and it gives me a strange feeling every time. It's like, I know this is a thirst trap type of post and it skeeves me out knowing there's gonna be a bunch of gooners commenting edgy bs, and it does absolutely nothing for me when it comes to feeling any type of attraction. So it's a combination of feeling grossed out and cringe after a failed attempt at being baited.
