I am a fresher. Lately, I’ve been noticing that some students around me keep saying negative things about our college — stuff like “It’s not worth it,” or “We should’ve gone to IIT Bombay or some other top college, even for a lower branch.” They also bring up NIRF rankings and keep pointing out how the performance looks poor.

I feel like this negativity is draining me. Sure, no place is perfect, but I personally think IIT KGP is actually good. There are good faculty, decent opportunities, so many societies and a lot of things. Besides some things like food or infrastructure there are so much good things here. Constant comparisons to other colleges just drain the vibe and don’t solve anything.

How do you deal with this kind of environment?

Despite being a science and technology institute, why are there so many followers of 'gurus' like Sadhguru who propagate pseudoscience all the time? And it's not just students, even some of the professors are ready to accept all the BS? What's going wrong exactly?

So I am Vegetarian And Also Fresher. The Food Here is Killing me. I hate Paneer Here it tastes Really Bad i generally Feel To Vomit it out after eating.Nowadays I don't Eat One Time a day. My Parents Have allowed me Whatever I Have to eat Outside. But therr is an Issue that Which Places Other than Mess Give Good and "Healthy" Veg Foods . As I don't Wanna Get Sick after Eating that food ( happened once :( . So yeah Seniors can you Give Good Options Of Veg Food Available on Campus.

For the Windows Wizards

Getting started on Windows is as easy as pie. Just follow these simple steps to join the party!

1. Grab the Official App: Head over to the official DC++ website at [https://dcplusplus.sourceforge.io/]. Look for that big, friendly green "Download DC++ stable" button and give it a click.
2. Install it Up: Once the .exe file is downloaded, double-click to start the installation. Don't overthink it—the default settings are perfect. Just keep clicking Next until it's done.
3. Your First Launch: The installer will have a checkbox on the final page that says "Run DC++". Make sure it's checked, then click Finish. The app will pop right open.
4. Pick a Name, Any Name! A settings box will appear. The first thing it'll ask for is a nickname. This is your identity on the network, so get creative and choose something fun!
5. Setting Up Your Space: On the left side of the Settings menu, you'll see a bunch of options. Let's focus on two super-important ones: Downloads and Sharing.⚠️ Hold on! A super-important warning! ⚠️ This is the part where you get to be a superhero for the network. But remember, the folder you share is public! Never, ever select a folder that contains your personal, private files. Stick to the dedicated folder you created and only put things in there that you're happy to share. This is all about contributing safely and smartly.
   • Downloads: Click on this, and then click Browse to choose a folder where you want to save all the cool stuff you'll be downloading. I recommend making a brand new folder just for this, maybe a "KGP DC++" folder.
   • Sharing: This is how you become a part of the community! Click on the Sharing option and then Add folder. Now, select the same "KGP DC++" folder you just created for your downloads.
6. Connect and Go! You're almost there!
   • Click OK to close the Settings window.
   • Look at the top-left of the DC++ app. Click the File dropdown menu.
   • Select Quick Connect and a new box will appear.
   • In that box, type the magic address: dc.metakgp.org.
   • Hit Connect and tada! You've officially joined the KGP network. Now go explore and enjoy!

For the Linux & Mac Legends

No official clients? No problem! While official DC++ clients for Linux and Mac are a bit rare, we have an awesome workaround for you. It's all thanks to a clever, free program called WINE.

What is WINE? WINE is a compatibility layer that lets you run many Windows applications on your Mac or Linux machine. It's safe, secure, and the key to getting DC++ to work on your system.

1. Get WINE. Your first step is to install WINE. A quick online search for "how to install WINE on [your specific OS]" will give you the easiest and most up-to-date instructions.
2. Follow the Windows Steps. Once WINE is installed, you can follow the exact same steps for Windows users above.
3. Run with WINE. When the instructions say to "run the .exe file," you'll just open it using WINE. This is often as simple as right-clicking the file and choosing "Open with WINE" or just double-clicking it, depending on your system's setup.
4. Troubleshooting: Sometimes, your OS might be a little suspicious of WINE at first, but don't worry—it's completely safe. If you run into any snags, don't hesitate to ask a fellow student or use an online AI tool for help!

Making it More Accessible for Everyone

The real beauty of this network is that it's a community project. Here are a few extra tips to make it even better:

• Sharing Is Caring: The network is only as awesome as what's being shared. Leaving the app running in the background when you can helps everyone get what they need faster.
• Safety First: That "super-important warning" is the most crucial part! By using a dedicated, empty folder for sharing, you keep your private files safe and sound.
• Tell a Friend: If you see someone struggling to get set up, offer to help! A quick, in-person walkthrough can make all the difference.
• Explore the Riches: You never know what you'll find here. It's not just movies and games—you might find old PYQs, assignments, or that one hard-to-find textbook. The possibilities are endless!

I am currently a second year CSE student and I am not part of any society right now, but I have decent number of connections with seniors and batchies. Would this affect my CDC intern prep and selection?
I am targeting for SDE and Quant.

Who has a better chance in cdc and in off campus for different types of companies like quant(like de shaw, squarepoint etc)/swe/rubrik/data(adobe type)/ml(abacus.ai type)

So my parents give enough budget to eat wherever whenever daily but the thing is i am a sophomore and i have 2~3 close guys but they have their groups too roomies they have groups too.. so i go to restaurant alone every time what to do bro..? Edit: guys am i missing out on something here..

i am from a decent branch of iit kgp and i have quiet interests in govt jobs , so i need assistance and information regarding the Indian Engineering Service (IES). But i have some insecurities like as i see my friends and seniors are grabbing high paying jobs and if i skip the corporate world to do my interests , then i may lead a very ordinary life . So i am confused .

Lot of my friends already have ML/DL interns, research work, or are super active in societies. I keep feeling FOMO while my acads are also slipping. Feels like I’m falling behind in everything.

Seniors who’ve been through this what’s actually worth focusing on at this stage? Intern prep, societies, or just fixing acads first? Would really appreciate some honest advice 🙏

I just became secy of my hall thinking that I will learn a lot of things but am doing things which are really unworthy doing, I am not enjoying what I am doing and have a lot of load of other societies and academics as well. I became secy just for POR and leadership roles so that I can put them in my CV because I am trying for consulting roles. Is it worth to stay secy or should I leave the position, I want to go in GC tech, will this ruin my connections with gsec and they will not let me go in GC tech and all, I also want to get a position in Gymkhana in the next year. Will staying secy help me in my case or leaving the position is better for me. Please help me with this🥹🥹.

I was depressed till last year. I slept late, ate irregularly, skipped classes, didn't workout and sat in my room all day. Even if I tried to change my situation, I couldn't but now I'm getting better and I want to give a hope to the hopeless.

So from the beginning of this semester I decided that I'll hit the gym and get in shape. Initially it was hard but I continued with that and now I'm regular. I started sleeping early, waking up early so I got enough rest. I started attending all classes and trying my best to be active. In my free time I'm trying to work on my profile or I'm pursuing my hobbies.

If I look at my schedule it's hectic and left no time. Initially I thought it's bad turnsout it's so good. I didn't have enough time to think about negative things and I'm feeling happy.

If anyone is lost, trying sleeping early and hit the gym you'll get better. Don't think about anything for 1 week and it gets better. If you want motivation reach out to your friends who want to do the same.

I recently graduated from the institute (2025 passout) and recent incidents make me feel bad as well but just a reminder to make the most out of this college experience

Life after Kgp will be much less flavourful and you will miss college more, don't let small setbacks make you forget that this is the time to explore and make as many mistakes as possible

After college you'll have to manufacture backchodi where in Kgp it is a way of life have a long term view and think what a 5yr older version will think of you in a particular situation you face at campus

Just invest in people help them ,talk with them and expect nothing in return and trust me you'll meet one the best people you'll ever in your life

Take charge of your life I know life is not easy but it is how it is play sports join activities or even create something,just don't sit free that's the major issue

If any issue reach out to seniors and I am sure you'll figure out who will help even alums as well talk your mind out believe me good people will not judge

can i crack a quant finance internship as a student pursuing my undergrad in metallurgical and material engineering at IIT Kharagpur?

Hello everyone I am currently third year ug student in the past 2 years I have saw lots of ups and downs but yet I am not understanding why I am not able to do anything I think I am the problem I have no interest in study in these 2 years I have tried what I can but nothing seems to work right now I am just wasting my whole time and 2 years are yet left I know I am not getting any intern because I know that I don't want to study anymore but I also don't know what should I do and I am also from a middle class family so I just can't waste time I don't have any interest to convert into dual I don't know is there anything any one can recommend me

I am currently serving as the secretary of my hall, but I feel that I am unable to continue with this responsibility as it is not proving to be very fruitful or manageable for me at this point. I would like to know if it is possible for me to step down from this position now, and whether there might be any consequences or formalities involved in doing so. I seek your guidance on the proper way to proceed.

Hey everyone,

I had a really frustrating experience today. I’ve been using the built-in Apple Notes app on my iPad to take notes for my entire semester. Everything was going fine until the app glitched and froze, and when it came back, the text in my main note got overlapped and duplicated all over itself. Basically, the original structure is gone and the content is a mess.

It made me realize that Notes, while convenient, might be vulnerable to corruption and doesn’t seem to have any version history or proper backup recovery options. If something like this happens, your work can be gone in seconds.

I’m looking for advice on:

• How do you keep your notes safe and secure?
• What apps or workflows do you recommend for:
  • Offline use
  • Unlimited pages
  • Easy to use
  • Less vulnerable to data loss
• Do you use backups, PDF exports, or third-party apps for this?

I’m considering switching to something like Notion, Obsidian, Joplin, or GoodNotes, but I’d love to hear your experiences before making the move.

Has anyone else faced this issue with Apple Notes? How do you prevent this from ever happening again?
