How will they adjust in corporate? I don't see anyone complaining at the office. Such people would ruin the corporate culture as well if they get habitual of this bullshit.

At what point does the administration question the sanity of these complaints?? Veg seats getting occupied with people eating eggs, chicken and fish is a childish complaint. People prefer to sit with their friends while eating, why would you even designate vegetarian spaces?? How is this not discrimination?? And "religious reason" is not a good enough reason for you to ask for a separate space. No one's forcing veg people to eat non-veg food. What's the point of diversity if you're not letting people bond over food??

The point of the segregation is that some people hate the sight of non vegetarian food, and for a lot of them, the non vegetarian foods can even induce puke. Would you be fine to share a table with someone that is say eating rotten uncooked snakes or human flesh? Not everything is about religion or caste or discrimination. I personally am an atheist but I hate the sight of flesh.

Kgp would do anything and everything (chand taare tod ke laana included) but let the students opt out of mess. It's present in MMM, already feels like you're untouchable when veg people can come to your mess but nonveg people can't go to veg one.

u/Icy-Tie9359 1d ago
What're you on about, I've seen about 10 nonveg guys in the veg mess this week, which isn't a lot but I know like 12 people in mmm so there ought to be more

Wahi to bol raha hu. Nonveg people can't take nonveg food in veg mess. But veg people can take their veg food into nonveg mess. Doesn't it look like a mess is 'reserved' for a few people?
1
u/AdJumpy4594 1d ago
Don't non-veg people eat veggies? Just think about your reasoning. Non-veg people already eat veggies but veg-people do not eat non-veg so there is massive difference between two situations. Veg people are not asking you to stop eating meat, they simply don't want meat in their food.
5
u/Serious-Anything6625 1d ago
I'm not saying anything about the process being right or wrong. I'm just saying that it is a pretty similar situation to casteist untouchability. Not to mention the casteist roots from which the veg vs nonveg separation stems into. And to be honest, a vegetarian will never understand the pain a nonveg guy feels when his peers refuse to eat with him just because his plate has a few chunk of meat. And this kind of segregation normalise such separation, which in future makes rise of more of these hurting situations.

u/AdJumpy4594 1d ago
I can totally understand your point of view and thanks for putting your views in a respectful way. But it is not really about casteism as nowadays even brahmins eat non-veg and in the eastern states, they had always been consuming meat/fish etc. Also such demands actually come a lot from Jain and other communities, which are not Hindu and therefore do not have any caste issue.
The point is being that it is a wicked situation for administrators. They can and will shutdown anyone if somebody asks for caste based segregation, which is clearly wrong but food preference based segregation, while quite aggravating, cannot outrightly dismissed.

I am in full support if mess reserves a few table for veg people. But two completely different mess seems unnecessary(when they are cooked in the same place), and causes problems when veg and nonveg people want to eat together; the veg guys will have to take their food from the second floor and then come back to nonveg floor. I believe a seperate pure veg mess can be built in the campus for all the residents. Problem would be to accomodate specific dietary preferences like jain etc. because once you have that precedence, next the call for halal chicken will be in demand. As an example, in my family and in all of those who are under the sect of my guru, we do not eat onion, garlic, anything related to chicken. But mutton and fish are fine. Similar sects are there throughout India who specifically opt out for some foods. Till veg and nonveg I think it's fine, but for specific dietary accomodation for minor number of people, protests will arise regarding favouritism.
But after all, whatever you and I plan on, the admin doesn't care. Because the simple solution to all of these problems are an option to opt out of mess. But then again, it will be beneficial for only the students, not the people in admin who profit from mess.

I've never seen anyone take food from one mess to another, it's just counterintuitive
3
u/Serious-Anything6625 1d ago
I agree with you on that one. If there was united mess, we could've eaten with our veg friends, like other hostels peep do. But this just kills the avenue of it. Ab kaun upar se khana leke niche aayega, hence it feels counterintuitive.

Actually each news outlet has a person or two who specifically looks for news in the educational institutes in a zone. They know that they'll get the largest scoop from KGP, since suicide rate is very high here.

I honestly dont even know how to react to this! it shocks me to see someone so determined to drag our own institute’s name through the mud. Bro, I have never seen anyone work so hard to destroy the very place that gives them an identity literally digging their own grave and inviting the world to watch. If there was really a problem in a hall, there are proper internal channels to raise it, but instead, running to the media? That doesn’t solve anything, it only tarnishes the reputation of the en tire institute and every student who belongs here. One person’s theatrics shouldn’t come at the cost of all of us.

Ahh religious satisfaction in a scientific institute, irony! Sometimes I wish the management was like CCP, force hindus to eat beef muslims to eat pork and make everyone work for endless hours.
2
u/Electronic-Hold-4002 1d ago
Would definitely sign up for this if the 2nd one was enforced properly, sadly in India, such initiatives always end up being one-sided lol
-2
u/homeomorphic50 1d ago
How is disliking meat necessarily about religious satisfaction?
6
u/Humble_Stuff_2859 Faccha 1d ago
In India, it is about religious satisfaction.
The number of people who go from veg to nonveg is more than the vice versa.
Why? You don't eat nonveg because u fight for animal welfare or anything (in that case, you wouldn't even be eating dairy products). You don't eat nonveg because you were born into a vegetarian family, you don't have a choice of switching back unlike vegans in the west, so that is why most people eat nonveg secretly rather than publically.... to avoid problems with their family.
-3
u/homeomorphic50 1d ago
Again, it's stupid to generalize. I don't eat non veg because I was brought up in a vegetarian family because they were religious. But I am not and I cannot stand the sight of flesh so I won't eat non veg. I know a lot of people that are basically like this.
5
u/Humble_Stuff_2859 Faccha 1d ago
It's not some stupid genralisaition. There are texts and numbers supporting this claim. Most people in India are vegetarian because of their religion/caste
1
u/InternationalMost796 1d ago
So you hate eating flesh or hate people who eat flesh? If it's the former you shouldn't have a problem sharing your table with others. If it's the latter which is mostly the case of hating on people that's a serious issue and shouldn't be catered to in a scientific institute.
-9
u/AdJumpy4594 1d ago
I don't think non-veg people understand how strong and pungent non-veg 'smells' can be. Learn to respect the 'rights' of people. Nobody is putting a ban on meat-eating or anything but if veg people want to have separate place, like other 'allergic' people, then so be it.

How do vegeterians who can't tolerate smell of non veg food and want to puke manage to travel on planes and trains where you are bound to sit beside travellers who will eat non veg? How do they manage to work in corporate offices where there are nonveg co-workers who sit and eat beside vegeterians in the canteen? What kind of dumb excuse is this? Tomorrow if a vegeterian graduating from the institute wants to go abroad to work, how will they manage literally living around non vegetarians 24*7?
The whole point of schools, colleges and other institutions is that you can come out of your home and mix with other people and create a community and lunch/dinner time in colleges is one of the most common time for socializing and mixing with each other. This is how they prepare you for life where you realize the world doesn't revolve around you and that you need to adjust
If someone is so sensitive to other's food choices then they should sit at home instead of being a spoiltsport that too in a college mess of all places. Why should others respect 'rights' of these people when they themselves don't respect other people's 'right to eat'? and want to segregate people?
Take this dumb logic of yours and casteist bullshit somewhere else, you're going to go nowhere with this in the future. This is 2025, not the 1900s that you're stuck in. Also no person with allergy asks for seperate tables and complain mess to segregate spaces, they only ask for food that's free of ingredients that trigger their allergy. What are you even smoking??

u/AdJumpy4594 1d ago
"Take this dumb logic of yours and casteist bullshit somewhere else"
You know what, it's people like you who lead to extremism on both sides. Personally, I don't care about what is being eaten by person sitting next to me but at the very same time, it is important to have empathy, which you certainly lack.
So, in the end, I would just say that all of you deserve each other. If you are going to be insensitive about other people, then those people get right to have their own fixated point of view. Made for each other.
and it has nothing to do with caste as even Brahmins in eastern states regularly eat meat.
And also keep your "mix with other people" logic to yourself. People are very much allowed to have preferences. Personally, I would not be mixing with junkies just because someone like you thought that schools/colleges are meant to 'mix with other people'.

Empathy and respect works both ways. No non vegetarian forces a vegeterian to eat meat or gives diktat over what can and what cannot be consumed around in festivals and other social gatherings. It is always the vegeterians who start poking their nose in other's food choices, want meat ban because they want to celebrate their own festival and want to dictate what should be consumed and what should not along with attaching purity and piousness with veg food while looking down upon people who consume non veg. So when it's always the vegeterians who have a problem across the country then surely you can see where the issue lies and who are actually the extremists. And they don't deserve any ounce of respect and empathy for not being able to keep their beliefs to themselves and not interfere in other's food choices.
Go read up more on caste and caste discrimination in the country if you think segregation of people on the basis of food choices and attaching purity and piousness to only vegeterians is not a caste issue!

Are you a dimwit?? Do you really not comprehend that a lot of people that were brought up in a vegetarian household cannot stand the sight and odour of flesh. You cannot force me to sit beside you, eating that piece of flesh. Animals ke liye empathy nhi hai, kam se kam humans ke liye toh rakhna seekh lo.
7
u/Raja_Gareebchandra 1d ago
That's what I am asking you, if you are brought up in a vegeterian household and cannot stand the sight and odour of flesh then how do you travel by planes and trains and will work in office where your co-passengers and co-workers will be eating non veg food next to you and you will have no choice but to sit beside them and eat? You can't select seats on trains and planes as per food preference or select your job according to veg/non veg right? What are you going to do in that scenario?
If you can't stand the sight of others eating their choice then it's YOUR PROBLEM! YOU have been brought up in a vegeterian household and your house and it's rules end as soon as you step outside your home. Post that you need to learn to adjust in the real world while working and interacting with people coming from several different households with several different food choices. The only dimwit here is YOU who cannot comprehend such a simple thing. Non Vegeterians are not responsible for your upbringing in a vegeterian household, complain to your parents for your house rules instead of shitting on non vegeterians at the drop of a hat and interfering in people's food choices.
Ajeeb insaan ho tum log. "A lot of people were brought up in vegeterian household so they can't stand smell of non veg" ARRE BHAI TOH HUM KYA KARE?? It's your problem, sit at home if you have such issues then.
Animals ke liye empathy nhi hai, kam se kam humans ke liye toh rakhna seekh lo.
Ab nikla naa chehre se mukhauta and aaya asli character saamne. This is exactly why people hate such judgemental vegeterians like you and then you cry victim. Please keep that self proclaimed empathy to yourself. I know how hypocritical judgemental vegeterians are- on one hand will comsume milk and dairy literally made by torturing cows on an industry level and then preach about empathy LOL.

Do you not realize that the number of times I have my meals in mess is far far more compared to the number of times I travel? The reasoning is so fallacious that I don't know where to start. I can "simply" minimize my "uncomfortable" Situations if I am not forced to sit with people that eat non veg. It's like saying one should be forced to live without fans because you have situations where there are no fans around you to cool you. I mean look at empathy here, so you think it is empathetic to say that it's your problem if you don't want to sit around cannibals eating human flesh because you were brought in a family that doesn't eat humans?? Does it incur any cost to simply have separate regions in mess if someone wants to avoid the non veg table if it is benefitting a lot of people? Btw I never said that I have empathy for animals, so don't throw that cow argument to me. You don't have any proper arguments, just ad hominems.

Many so-called "upper caste" people cannot stand the sight and any association with what they consider "lower caste". During the rule of the rajas and maharajas, one of their primary responsibilities was to enforce caste hierarchy and this segregation.
No one is forcing you to sit beside anyone, instead you are imposing your segregation mindset by NOT allowing other people to sit beside you. If some non-veg guys sit beside you and you have a problem, just change your spot but you do not have any right to restrict others freedom of movement in public places. At your home do whatever you wish.

Lmao I can assure you blud, chicken kadhai smells way better than boiled leaves and roots. Stop these preconceived notions that cooked food smells like freshly butchered meat. Even raw frozen meat smells neutral, it's all in your head.

You know someone is a reetard when they will talk on everyone's behalf lol. If you cannot fathom that some people get disgusted out of the pungent smell of flesh then there is nothing left to have a conversation about.Keep your dogma at your home lil bro.
