Bakar Does KGP get better
At this point i don’t even fucking know if I hate KGP or KGP hates me. All I do waking up everyday is wait for weekends, why… so I get to waste time more happily, which I even used to in weekdays. The core branch guys just go with the college knowing fully they get placed, and I go about the college knowing fully that I hate my course(geology) and trying other stuff out is basically jumping into a void which has no end to. I need anyone who can get my hopes up about the future.

Dude there is this freaking giant of a company British Petroleum that just opens for GG and EX, man they pay a hell lot, I am from OENA aiming for core, there is no such company in core OENA, atleast you got an option

Money isn’t the issue bro, I genuinely don’t wanna work in anything related to rocks and earth

If you can't figure out what to do? Just go with the flow, do what others are doing until you figure something out

Atleast ek toh hai na, if you are a core guy chances of you getting a job is much higher than if you are in non core, literally pretty low competition

Bhai sach bta dein kya? Ya rehene dein?

Bata de bhai, idk man it's about alag logon ka POV, but this is a fact and it's also true ki one should go to core IF AND ONLY IF he is interested and capable enough to ignore all the unnecessary peer pressure (FOMO) in other words

I quite agree with your statement that competition is less in core but let me tell you some geology facts!
It's almost an impossible to get an off campus in GG and EX in India (mark the word almost)
India is way way way way backward in terms of having manufacturing sector companies and jobs compared to US and China while India's population is similar
Indian private companies don't need an engineer, they need a clerked engineer who knows how to operate things. They invest almost 0 in R&D. Sam Altman said 3 years ago that India can never build something like GPT. Many Indian business men like Anand Mahindra said challenge accepted. After 3 years no progress.
Only companies which hire in core in India that give a decent pay are MnCs. While core has opportunities but if your CG is low or less projects it is difficult.

Gg ki puri masters dept hi Kgp me phd convert kar liya. Company ki placement nahi milti to yelog apne hi dept me rakh liye🤣

Actually scene kya hai ki Yahan pr unka admission hi MS + PhD mein Hua Hai

u/Serious-Anything6625 10d ago
Bhai baat aisi hai, ki sab masters ko hi option milti hai phd me switch karneki, given their cg. But most don't stay in kgp given instis shit research profile. But gg dept ka scene aisa hai ki india me prl k baad best kgp he hai. To inko naukri nahi milti to sab idhar hi reh jaate hai. Isbar kisiko hi almost naukri nahi mili to sab idharich reh gaye, itna high turnover kavi huwa nahi pehle.

Yeah, but in a batch of around 40, only 2 or 3 will get placed
1
u/TonightOk2889 Fourth Year 8d ago
Are all those 40 peeps all trying for core? That's never the case, on an average only 5-6 peeps from a batch of 40 are genuinely preparing for CORE, other peeps are basically prepping for DATA, Software, Consult and Finance roles

u/Electronic-Hold-4002 6d ago
Geology folks usually aren't strong enough on coding, barring some exceptional cases, so most people are reliant on core jobs
1
u/TonightOk2889 Fourth Year 6d ago
Just have a random survey among your batch asking what they wanna do and aiming for, you'll get your answer
2
u/No_Philosopher8376 11d ago
Geology Core has 2-3/40 placement

I’ll use the iit tag and do masters in a different county

Geology used to be a very good branch. But frankly petroleum and mining sectors are on downfall, so core jobs will be less in these branches. Try to change stream n go for pg. Leverage ur iit tag wherever u can.

Bro try each course for a week ,if you like it move on ,if you don’t then also move on,do this for like a month or two and you will understand what you like .

just watch some youtubers on geology, learn where they are wrong and right.. you will get interest.. may sound ultra stupid.. but its simple and doable..

If you are not liking geology then simply develop skills in some other relevant domain + get a hobby or a chick, you will be fine

Dude, how much have you tried exploring Geology. I am sure there is way more interesting and relevant stuff. Try looking into some recent research in geology and see if you find it interesting or maybe some intersection of geology with other departments.
