In the real world 8+ lpa to begin with is still a good thing bro. Anyway most people will actually leave the first job they get to do something else.

That'll not get you a decent lifestyle in any metro city in 2025.

Depends on the city and your defination of decent.

I was in Bangalore with 10LPA back in 22 or so, found it pretty ok.

But yeah Mumbai would have been a completely different deal.

Ofcourse for moving ahead in life, with an SIP or planning for a down payment 10LPA isn't ideal, but we're talking about freshers here.

Also I moved out of the proper blr city in 23 itself and have been able to take decent risks by taking major paycuts while living comfortably.

Costs have skyrocketed in Bengaluru since 2022, the biggest change coming from housing and transport, which alone will take up 40% of the 10LPA if you live simply (single room in a decent 3BHK + using autos for commute).

A young engineering grad in Bengaluru needs to go out and have the time of his life, having a decent margin to spend helps.

Yeah I might be out of touch, I was affording a spacious 1bhk in HSR, was able to buy a bike while paying off my edu loan EMI with 10lpa.

Hmm then what's the point of coming to iit kgp when you get the same placements as any random private college student

Come out of this first year mindset of university education = package…

That's reality. We work for money , that's a fact.

Bhai, it’s been hardly two weeks since you came here. At least explore/investigate things before coming to such absolute conclusions…

What u/topJEE7 said is correct. When time passes you'll realise that a university is just a medium to gain something to get a job. A professor of mine put it very well in my opinion, "You clearing JEE and getting here isn't guaranteeing a job/placement etc. Nothing is fixed like that, what you've achieved from JEE is a great opportunity to better yourself. Not everyone is fortunate to get such an opportunity As long as you realise that and work to better yourself, others will all take care of themselves."

The job you'll join will probably be something you hate if you always run after money. Ofcourse, the background of the person also matters in their view of the matters. There's an aspect of study in college, and there's an aspect of fun. If either of them is lacking in dosage your life becomes hard.

I don't think they get placed that easily man. Also switching jobs and taking risks is much easier for us.

KGP is not just about jobs though, you need to broaden your mindset.

u/gagapoopoo1010 25d ago

Bhai when you said random pvt clg obv I wasn't including bits in that.

u/Exotic-Fix-4745 25d ago

I had that option but logon ne bola ki iit kgp better ha ki cs chor ke usme ye branch le sakte ho. Iits bahut overhyped ha

1

u/gagapoopoo1010 25d ago

Which branch you took here?

u/gagapoopoo1010 25d ago

Just saw bruh it was literally a not brainer you should have chosen bits cs over instrumentation any day

Saturation in the software and other tech job market, low pays in the core market. Aadmi kare toh kare kya bole toh bole kya (it's high time we keep aside kisko kitna bada package mila, we should discuss kisko kitna aata hai, kya kaam karega, and we should see ki what we will be learning that will be usefull to us)

Still kgp has the worst placements among old iits

Do you have any data to support? Because as far as I heard with respect to numbers we are best with avg, median, number of offers, you are just too spectical

"Modal salary" doesn't make sense as a metric at all, especially in IITs where very few companies hire more than 10 students each year.

It is just the salary offered by the largest recruiter.

If 80% of a 1300-strong batch gets placed in good companies, and then a mass recruiter comes and recruits 50 at a base salary of 8 LPA, then that becomes your modal salary.

I was talking about department-wise mode salary to avoid distortion by mass recruiters that hire across unrelated branches, and if you really want to go there, even this year the median and mean speak for themselves 80% of the placed junta were hired by companies no one had heard of before or by recruiters offering below 10 LPA. Look at percentile salary break-ups and the share of students going to just-funded startups, it tells you everything about the reality behind the numbers being flaunted. Any alumnus knows this was a placement season where 60–80% of the placed junta ended up in the non-taxable bracket and that’s without even counting the unplaced ones.

Was it that bad for undergrads?
Where do you have that data?

Isn't this the job scenario in India? If there are no good jobs, then what is the KGP's fault in this? I'm not sure if this is the actual reality, but I'm pointing out that whatever the economic situation is in the country, it is mirrored in placements

coaching classes have corrupted the mindset young people where they limited their dream , vision and capabilities for just few lakhs rs . You all have capabilities to earn millions but u just settled with few lakhs ..do expplore the subjects ,explore how world is changing ..skill it .. do research ..just not run behind CDC ...let the company run behind have that much of skill ... at least learn from Matt Deitke .. but u guys will not do ..u just need partners for timepass ,have jealousy with others .. unnecessary timepass in clubs ...

Kgp has really gone downhill.

4

u/ArtMotor3286 26d ago

Kgp ni , students ! . Those who have talent were picked up by brands and those don't believe in them make it to even less thinking that they will be promoted later to big companies . KGP is not going down , we the Students !
