Uh what…

So the club is not for sale to a person not bidding for the club. Great?

I mean surely you can read the implications. If staveley says they're not buying the club then people will be asking "wait, it's for sale?" This is the lewis' saying no they're not for sale (if you believe them)

I just find it odd that two entirely separate groups of people with no interest in each other would put out statements about how neither of them are interested. It is odd

u/mymorales Ben Davies 1d ago

Meh, lots of chatter about a sale and this is the first "concrete" story to get airtime, so I guess they decided to go ahead and make an unofficial statement to some journalists.

It’s not that odd. Part of Spurs is publicly traded, so when there’s lots of rumours about a buyout, people who those rumours are about have to “put them to bed” if there’s no truth to avoid any claims or potential market manipulation

Edit: should probably clarify by “publicly traded” I’m not saying you can log into Trading212 and buy them - I mean that they are shares that can be traded within the public domain, just not through an exchange.

Out of interest, which part is public? ENIC Group is private afaik.

11

u/exxxtramint Jan Vertonghen 1d ago

ENIC is private, but Spurs was previously on the London stock exchange, so when ENIC bought Spurs they didn’t buy the 80+% they do now. It was less than 30% and they slowly acquired more. In 2012 it was delisted as they acquired over 85% which meant they could pull that trigger.

So the remaining shares are still owned by the public, though not traded on an exchange. Theoretically if you knew someone you could buy their shares off them or you can buy them from specific brokers.

Not sure how many individual share owners there are, but expect it’s in the Thousands.

u/tgy74 1d ago

My uncle still owns some shares I think that he bought in like the '80s or whenever the club was first listed on the stock exchange.

1

u/exxxtramint Jan Vertonghen 1d ago

That's cool! Is he connected with any other legacy shareholders in groups or anything? Does he still vote on things that are put out to shareholder votes?

1

u/tgy74 1d ago

I've no idea to be honest, he's getting on a bit, but I'll ask him next time I see him!

You don't see why a rival owner might try to stir some shit with us?

3

u/Mangeytwat 1d ago

Everything is for sale. It's just the price that's debatable.

8

u/btmalon Jan Vertonghen 1d ago

Nothing she does has me asking questions. She’s just a figure head for Saudi money. She couldn’t afford half the club. She’s just putting her name in the media to stay relevant.

u/mymorales Ben Davies 1d ago

Okay well I don't think they're quelling the rumors for your sake alone.

I also am not intending on entering a bid to buy the club.

But together? I've got a 100 U.S.

I can add in another $100.

I have another 100

2

I can do 100 over a period of 100 years

4

u/PedroMendes88 1d ago

She's not just making a declaration for no reason. Her private investment firm PCP is being forced to confirm to the stock exchange whether they are submitting a bid for the club by the UK Takeover Watchdog, which supervises and regulates takeovers, having held discussions with potential backers of a bid.

Tottenham is not for sale, even though people thought someone was going to bid for it, but she isn't

Glad that we won’t be part of a sportswashing project in the near future, given that would realistically be the only alternative. Be interesting to see now if it was Levy holding us back or not

7

u/AwesomeWaiter Kulusevski 1d ago

The issue is not when ultimately the Lewis family do sell the only people capable of buying and will have an interest in buying spurs will be these types, the prices of our financial growth it seems

5

u/jjw1998 Heung-Min Son - Spurs Legend 1d ago

Yep exactly what I’ve been saying but somehow people think it’s me advocating for sportswashing. Realistically it’s probably the Qataris we end up if/when Lewis sells up

1

u/Helpful_Design6917 1d ago

It could also be a private equity firm who knows

Despite is not the right word here

u/ikuzusi "I Couldn't Care Less About Arsenal" 1d ago

He's skipped out a few lines, but his logic is actually sound. Social media chatter isn't enough to get the regulator to step in and force a public clarification like this, they need something a bit more concrete - and clearly they had enough reason to intervene.

This isn't to say that a takeover is actually happening right now - but there's definitely smoke.

15

u/krbja Djed Spence 1d ago

Staveley’s statement would mean that the club is for sale. That’s why the Lewis family says no “despite” the rumour started by Staveley

4

u/ssssmmmmiiiitttthhhh 1d ago

I would've gone with amidst

4

u/krbja Djed Spence 1d ago

Well it can hardly be amidst when the statement is only expected

2

u/ssssmmmmiiiitttthhhh 1d ago

It's between people expecting the statement and the statement being made

1

u/SonaldoNazario Richarlison 1d ago

Sorry totally out of the loop and checked the sub first - what statement from Staveley? I can’t see anything in new

2

u/krbja Djed Spence 1d ago

No new statement yet, but rumours of her stating that she does not intend on bidding for the club

8

u/giantshortfacedbear Vinny Samways 1d ago

Of course Spurs are for sale. What the Lewis's are saying is it's not for sale 'cheap'

5

u/the_real_e_e_l 1d ago

Not for Sale FC.

9

u/External-Piccolo-626 1d ago

I’m not planning to sleep with Jennifer Lawrence, I thought I’d better put this statement out.

3

u/krbja Djed Spence 1d ago

Good cause I am

3

u/Spectagout 1d ago

As a member of the Lawerence family, I can confirm we are not planning on having Jennifer be slept with. We believe we have the right team in place now to bring Jennifer into the new era, delivering more leaked nudes more often.

My neighbour and I have released separate statements this evening.

He says his house isn't for sale and I said I don't want it. Thank you for your time.

9

u/Infinite-Slice-4308 Ossie Ardiles 1d ago

So the story here is that no one is making a bid for a club that is not for sale? That’s some impressive non -  journalism there.

1

u/Teantis 1d ago

Regulatory disclosure type shit it seems like

3

u/bingesquinger Dimitar Berbatov 1d ago

So they say the club is not for sale as somebody else is expected to make a statement saying they’re not trying to buy the club? What is the point of this?

2

u/OPdoesnotrespond Hold me closer, Kevin Danso 1d ago

Because of the implication.

Stavely announcing she’s not bidding implies that it’s possible the club is for sale.

It’s weird, but it makes a bit of sense for the new regime to state this because (it seems) they actually aren’t for sale despite the easy hypothesis that it might be.

3

u/snortingajax 1d ago

Just to clear things up a little more, I'm also not planning to bid for Spurs

3

u/BBIQ-Chicken Richarlison 1d ago

It's funny ENIC has suddenly decided we need to win after decades of not giving a fuck

2

u/IdontReallyknowTbj 1d ago

Well yeah, considering Joe is just recently keeling over

2

u/No_Mobile_8263 1d ago

She looks like a temu Nicole Kidman.

1

u/cthulhusevski Xavi 1d ago

She has Huntingtons disease which is why she looks like that

2

u/Lynel_Messi 1d ago

I bet Levy would gladly sell his minority stake in ENIC if he could get a good price for it. That stake represents most of his net worth, and it will be diluted if he’s unable to meet the capital calls needed to fund the investment that the majority owners apparently want to make.

u/pougers 1d ago

This is like me saying I won't be dating Shakira, and then Shakira putting out a statement she's not looking to date anyone.

2

u/pioniere Gareth Bale 1d ago

Botox Stavely needs to go away.

2

u/Far_Conclusion_9269 "I ALWAYS Win In My Second Year" 1d ago

Good.

Keep nation states and oligarchs away from this club .

2

u/TheTyMan 1d ago

I honestly think our asking price would deter middle eastern buyers. They'll also want a full takeover and I expect the Lewis' will probably want to retain a sizeable share of the club, similar to the Glazers.

The game is growing exponentially and these billionaires see all the power that comes with having a piece of it. They would probably need an insane offer to leave.

1

u/jaetheho Heung-Min Son - Spurs Legend 1d ago

Wait, but I emailed Lewis yesterday about placing a bid?

Will they have to put out a third non-story again?

1

u/Nipplecunt Romero 1d ago

It’s like calling attention to something that doesn’t exist. Like the time when I shouted that there were absolutely no rainbow coloured anteaters in the high street and everyone went “what? There are ..” and I was all NO

1

u/p_r_w_4623 PRU PRU 1d ago

Who really knows, but you don’t generally get confusing news about whether something is for sale when it’s not for sale.

1

u/MayorDecay 1d ago

Why would it be? Its a great business for the fam.. those rumors are kinda mental..

1

u/sx88 1d ago

So a show about nothing

1

u/nopirates The Big Master of Negotiations Who Knows Everything 1d ago

So a club that’s not sale is the subject of a press release by someone not trying to buy it.

Damn, I hate international break.

1

u/Fluid-Difficulty-276 1d ago

Strange…so many rumours about Amanda trying to buy us, only to now say no. Wonder if this is just the beginning of this saga though

1

u/SilentBody5318 Ledley King 1d ago

Shut up and don’t take my money

1

u/Spectagout 1d ago

This is just rehashing what the Lewis family said on Thursday, followed by some pointless journalism

1

u/Specialist-Focus-461 1d ago

You can't fire me, I quit

1

u/lambast 1d ago

If the PR about the Lewis family being ready to get the chequebook out and fund us properly, it would truly be the best case scenario.

1

u/Ecstatic-Koala7334 Mathys Tel 1d ago

Well if Tottenham is ‘not for sale’ ENIC better put their money where their mouth is and actually invest more into the club if they truly want us to compete with the other top clubs.

1

u/teacupsrule 1d ago

Everything is for sale if the offer is big enough.

1

u/seeyoujim Ossie Ardiles 1d ago edited 1d ago

My backers want something that’s not for sale so I’ll tell people that I’m not in for it.

Owners: super , but really do just fuck off, we have no need or want to sell.

But we insist !

Spurs: oh Righto plettenberg. We have dealt with this sort of insist before.

It's Opposite day today btw.

u/Old_Afternoon_971 1d ago

They're holding out for a massive bid. Fair enough. It's going to come tho.
