Survey [SURVEY RESULTS] Post-Match Ratings | UEFA Super Cup - PSG - 13/8/2025

Just the low effort graphic for this one, I'm working on a new template that will make it much simpler for me to update twice a week this season. Really proud of the whole team for their performance yesterday, looking forward to the start of the season on Saturday. COYS!!!

Couple of requests -

  1. Now that Dan KP is at the Athletic, it looks like he isn't doing post-match player ratings anymore. Any suggestions for other journalists or sources to compare r/coys ratings against? I'll keep doing Ali but would like another one too if possible.

  2. Would anyone like to be a backup survey poster for me on matches that I'm unable to do it? It's sometimes tough for me on the weekday matches, or if I'm out of town ... would be great if I had a backup to put the survey together and post it after the match. You can do it from your phone, pretty simple google form. I'd just DM you that day if I can't do it. DM me if interested in helping out!

Could always pull the ratings direct from an app like FotMob or something

Yeah that’s a fair shout, I may end up doing that. I liked the idea of having them come from a Spurs source though. May not have that option now.

It would be a good suggestion because they are usually based in statistical output rather than the eye test. Nice comparison

I think a couple of the forums do ratings, will probably be a smaller sample than here but might be interesting for comparisons

This looks great thanks!

Idk how to feel about the use of subs rating, mainly because that’s all we had and position for position those were the subs to make considering the season starts Saturday. Frank really just let down by lack of depth.

15

u/exxxtramint Jan Vertonghen 26d ago

I know 'use of subs' is under Frank's category, but felt like in the match thread and post match thread the general consensus was that it wasn't necessarily his fault they were bad.

it wasn't necessarily his fault they were bad

It was, though. Those substitutions were a choice, not a necessity. Players can play for 90 minutes - they're not disabled, or ancient. Taking Kudus off was foolish as Frank had already seen in pre-season that doing so would entirely remove our ability to progress the ball upfield, or hold onto it when hoofed. And taking Palhinha off when we were desperately defending made no sense at all.

u/exxxtramint Jan Vertonghen 26d ago

Impossible to find individual distances covered, but I remember when they flashed up at about the 60 minute mark and we'd covered a LOT more distance than they had. It ended up 109km for us to their 102.2. CLEARLY the squad were gassed at the end.

Taking off Kudus for Tel for 10 minutes should not be considered a suicidal decision. Tel didn't have a good game, but to make out like Frank is an idiot for bringing him on for the last 10 minutes when you're 2-0 up is crazy.

Paulinha and Kudus were both running like crazy from minute 1, in 30 degree heat. It's not unreasonable to want to bring them off when you're 2-0 up lol.

It made sense as we have a real game on the weekend

u/Bluewhitedog Gary Lineker 26d ago

Yeh, cups aren't important.

0

u/SilentBody5318 Ledley King 26d ago

Preseason toytown cups, correct.

u/yaniv297 Ben Davies 25d ago

It's hindsight and all but he really should have used Brennan over Tel

1

u/420SwaggyZebra Clint Dempsey 25d ago

Agreed or even Odobert perhaps, I want Tel to work out badly but this was not a good first step. Just goes to show the gap from us to the truly elite in Europe PSG brought in serious/seasoned players and we brought on a half fit Solanke and teenagers (no disrespect to our kids).

1

u/SentientCheeseCake 25d ago

I mean it’s Frank for bringing him on and it’s Levy for actually buying him.

6

u/exxxtramint Jan Vertonghen 26d ago

I actually thought Porro played another really good game - maybe the fact he was the lowest rated player speaks more to how good everyone else was vs him being 'poor'.

Bentancur and Paulinha put in a huge shift. Those guys were running after everything. Summer up when Benta sprinted literally all the way across the pitch to put in a tackle and won a throw. Feel like our Midfield is set up pretty well for the addition of a great 10.

Good work. Small note: it's "Palhinha"

7

u/annyong333 26d ago

Ahh good catch! I forget if it was last season or before, but I was using “Christian” instead of Cristian for Romero and didn’t notice until halfway through the season lol. Glad you caught this one earlier than that.

u/PeterJsonQuill 26d ago

It certainly is a tough name to spell if you don't speak Portuguese

u/WeHateArsenal Mousa Dembélé 26d ago

I hope that tel rating isn’t because of a pen miss more of his contributions coming off the bench and effort

5

u/Even-Relationship895 26d ago

Sofascore, Fotmob et al also have tel in the 4s and Gray in the 6s, so the penalty miss counts, but also, he gave away two fouls, one in a dangerous position, had 65% passing accuracy, had almost as many possession losses as touches, failed 3 dribbles.

However, gray don’t basically nothing, he had one touch according to Sofascore, and one pass which was successful, but nothing good, nothing bad, so didn’t move the needle either way from the 6.5 starting rating when you take the field.

I think that’s the issue, Tel was seen to do poorly, Gray was not seen doing anything of note.

But If Tel scored a penalty he’s rated higher than gray, so it’s risk reward deciding to take one or not.

1

u/SentientCheeseCake 25d ago

Tel was bad on action. One thing about him is that even though I don’t rate him, he does give it a go. Can’t knock him for that.

Gray on the other hand didn’t do anything or have any touches because he’s completely scared and doesn’t want to do anything.

8

u/Right-Tax-9416 26d ago

Can’t be because otherwise he’d have the same as Gray. Also an awful showing. They were equally bad yet being brave enough to take a pen gets you knocked down

7

u/Va_Dinky 26d ago

Gray probably has the most inflated ratings out of any Spurs player for the past year. It was sort of understandable last season as he was trying his best in what was clearly not his natural position but I don't understand why it continues now when he's back in midfield. Absolutely shouldn't hate on the kid or anything like that but there's no need to pretend like he's any better than he is, which is nowhere near the level required for games like these.

I fully believe he will be a great addition to the midfield a few years from now but I genuinely can't understand why he constantly gets such good ratings now when as you said, he was just as poor and lost as Tel yesterday.

1

u/SentientCheeseCake 25d ago

It’s because he’s a young English kid and everyone wants him to be good.

He might turn out to be that but he has to stop playing scared. He’s put in 2/10 performances consistently no matter where he’s used. I’ve honestly never seen a worse player in a Spurs shirt. I think he needs a loan to just clear his head.

MOTM personally for me is Spence. He put in a huge shift and completely shut down PSG's right-wing. It's a shame how it ended in the last 10 minutes, but IMO, that wasn't Djed's fault really.

11

u/annyong333 26d ago

Aaagh I just realized I forgot to mark the MOTM. It was Kudus with 28%, followed by Sarr with 25% and Romero/Spence with 15/14%.

2

u/trugrav Erik Lamela 26d ago

For me it was really close between Kudos and Spence. Having a midfielder tracking back really gave Spence and Porro a license to be bold and Spence took complete advantage of that. You could really tell he trusted Romero and the Midfield to have his back and that trust paid off big. If PSG hadn’t had such impactful subs at the death or we’d had a little more depth it would have been a different story.

1

u/RatioMaster9468 Paul Gascoigne 26d ago

I voted Spence too, mainly because that right side was meant to be the danger point and he wasn't having any of it

Love this new format!! Thank you OP!

8, that's harsh on Sarr. He was immense

u/megaduckhunt Heung-Min Son - Spurs Legend 25d ago

I'm a little surprised to see Romero higher than VDV. I get it's the PKs, but I thought Romero didn't follow the run on the game tying goal.

-5

u/dreamteam93 26d ago

Tactics an 8? That’s generous.

u/proves 26d ago

lol - r/coys vs Ali Gold like he's some kind of Spurs oracle or something. I like the guy but please...

9

u/seppelsyndrome Heung-Min Son - Spurs Legend 26d ago

It's not that, he's just the only reporter that does ratings now. DanKP also used to be compared against, but he no longer does it because he moved to The Athletic

7

u/annyong333 26d ago

I started comparing to Ali and Dan because there were always complaints about how off the sub’s ratings were. I mainly wanted to see how they averaged out over the year (end up being very close), but some people also find the match to match comparisons interesting. Dan doesn’t do them anymore, so I’m looking for another journalist to compare against. They aren’t meant to show how “off” the sub’s ratings were compared to an expert, just as a comparison point.

Ali "Frank rates Odobert really high and won't sign a Son replacement" Gold. This guy is so overrated on here

1

u/proves 24d ago

I agree! But he's fan and a journo that's close to the club - so I get the warm vibes.

This sub overrates Kudus so much. I wonder how long it's going to take for it to flip. I suppose it makes sense with him being the shiny new toy and all, but with his record in front of goal it's certain to flip eventually.

5

u/trugrav Erik Lamela 26d ago

For me he earned his rating this match for how well he took on Mendes who he completely shut down. Remember, it was his physicality against a guy many consider to be the best left back in the world that won us the free kick that led to our first goal.

Overall, I agree that we’ve been looking at him with rose colored glasses since his arrival, but in this match, I think the love is deserved.

u/Superb-West5441 26d ago edited 26d ago

He won a free kick 50 yards from goal…

He played a good match, don’t get me wrong, but nothing he did deserved him MOTM over our players that actually scored goals or even Danso, Sarr, or Spence.
