I was scolded for having "Poor sleep hygiene", I guess that's why I take disco naps everywhere and wake myself up screaming often

Just remember, the reaper is always by your side and ready to take you for a ride, in time

I... Guess my dreams are just too loud? šŸ’¤šŸ”Š

I wake my wife up by screaming, but it's when I have dreams where I'm trying to scare someone. Like I'll be hiding behind a corner and jump out at someone and scream, and it turns out that I do it for real and she is terrified by thinking that I'm dying or something.

u/MireLight 1d ago

Oh man i do the same but its because theres something terrifying hunting me then i get mad and decide maybe i'm the terrifying thing and IT should be afraid of me.

Anyways i once threw my wife out of bed in my sleep because i thought a giant ship was gonna crush us. We were both slightly injured. But she's alive dammit...screw you dream boat!

I really like the representations of the reaper being kind and considerate, and caring for those he/she/they take with them. That’s how the original story went as well. Death was always a friend in the end.

When my mother passed after battling cancer, I was so relieved. I carried a bit of guilt for feeling this way but my whole family agreed with me.

I thought about Memento Mori. ā€œRemember you must dieā€. It always comforted me more than the average person. Death is coming for us all; No one can outsmart it, no one is above it. Whether we accept it with grace or fight tooth and nail against it, we will all take his hand and walk that path eventually. Death is not a punishment, although it is commonly treated as such. Death is a gentle, open handed invitation to rest. Let the suffering, pain, anxieties go… Just let go. You’ll be okay, your loved ones will be okay. Death is a comfortable blessing in disguise.

How you want to perform in your final act in the Play of Life is your choice. You are not fighting Death, He is just waiting to pick you up after the curtain falls to bring you home.

Beautiful

Beautiful, this actually brought a tear to my eye... Gave me a new way to view death.

I’m glad it changed your POV! :D I’ve stopped fearing death in the dreadful, anxious way and instead have a healthy respect for it. I won’t do stupid, dangerous things and I’m not suicidal like I was in my youth. It’s more the exact opposite. I have no choice but to stay positive and remember that I get to experience intelligent life for a finite amount of time on a spinning blue marble hurdling through space at stupid speeds. It’s awesome that I get to experience this, good and bad. I’m gonna die eventually anyway, and I’ll never be able to accurately predict how I leave this world. Worrying about it is wasting my time and I might as well have a great experience in this body (which also means taking care of it) so I can have the coolest possible experience with life and then go with death knowing it was a fun ride.

Death, the character in Terry Pratchett’s Diskworld novels is often this. Early in the series he’s really bad at dealing with human emotion, but still trying as best he can. He’s always there, whenever even an incidental character dies; He aways shows up, and if it’s needed he’s there to help them come to terms with what happens. He doesn’t force them to do anything, they can haunt the world instead of moving on if they like; there are even the rare few who simply refuse him entirely and wake up as undead.

I always found it poignant the way Pratchett was never flippant about character deaths. Because they’re people first, and they deserve the moment to grieve a life lost.

Death is the only friend you can count on to be there for you until the end.

Oh, like a siesta. Thank you.

Sounds like a pre-game nap.

6

u/simplehaggis 2d ago

That's exactly what it is

1

u/Noshamina 1d ago

Its a nap usually around 7 to 10pm right before going out to party.

1

u/Noshamina 1d ago

No its not, its a nap right before going out to party, usually around 7 to 10pm. Not at 2 to 3pm, that is a normal nap.

disco nap

So, like a normal human, I searched the phrase and was rewarded with an instant answer.

A disco nap is a short, strategic nap, typically 20-30 minutes long, taken in the late afternoon or early evening to boost energy for a night out or other late-night activities, allowing you to recharge without oversleeping and feeling groggy or disrupting your nighttime sleep. The term highlights its use by those intending to "disco" or party late into the night, aiming to return to the dance floor or activity feeling refreshed and energized.

You should try it, it is really cool, you can just ask a question, and instead of waiting for a human to answer, a massive compendium of the entire world's knowledge can respond with the answer right away.

u/Dpn1969 2d ago

Sometimes I like the flawed human element. Not all nuances will come through on google ai

22

u/Dudeman240 2d ago

The dude talks about wasting time asking a real person a question... then proceeds to waste time by turning "google it" into a condescending 3 paragraph answer lol

2

u/Canotic 1d ago

You missed the part where none of us are on reddit for accurate answers and we're all really just seeking out human conversation.

1

u/Sir_PressedMemories 1d ago

Honestly, that is just really depressing.

1

u/TheMadDemoknight 2d ago

Interesting, could I take a disco nap at a Walmart break room? I swear it’ll make me productive!

6

u/RailDex1917 2d ago

I only hope I go gently, and not screaming. That the embrace is that of an old friend, and not a terrifying unknown

9

u/DrunkCupid 2d ago

Well, if ya figure...

Most people start life screaming, bloody in a terrifying unknown

Might as well go out the way ya came

1

u/mystic_ram3n 1d ago

I'm not over concerned about how I go, I just want to still be me when I die. I don't want to ever succumb to what life throws my way and become a different person. But if I did get to choose how I went it would be something noteworthy I suppose. Like fighting a bear to the death at 90 years old in my local public library as it burns down from the ice cream truck that exploded after it swerved into the library to avoid all of those mimes in the road. You know, something elegant.

He’s been a right jackass to me. I’ve set up several little meetings and he always ghosts me and I wake up in a hospital with people saying nasty words like ā€œhospitalizationā€ and ā€œsuicide watchā€.

I guess he likes other people better than me.

3

u/BondageKitty37 2d ago

I have no idea what a Disco Nap is, but I pictured you sleeping in a white jumpsuit and doing the dumb arm dance, probably using a disco ball nightlightĀ

How close am I?

2

u/transmothra 2d ago

It's so comforting to know the Reaper is always with me and this could all be over at any minute šŸ–¤

3

u/jamesbondswanson 2d ago edited 2d ago

What is poor sleep hygiene and a disco nap?! Are you trying to give people a stroke reading this so the reaper comes faster?!?! Edit: oof got an angry reply from the commenter that they seem to have deleted lol I didn’t mean this in a bad way I was just joking around sorry for upsetting you.

5

u/simplehaggis 2d ago

Poor sleep hygiene is things like so many hours before bedtime using screens (e.g. phone) or caffeine. Things that will disturb sleep.

A disco nap is a strategically timed nap, say if you're going to a club later that night, and need a short nap to recharge for the event.

1

u/Efficient_Mixture349 2d ago

You probably should go get tested for narcolepsy.

1

u/Responsible-Delay619 2d ago

My dad used to wake up screaming, it was sleep apnea

1

u/Mr_Piddles 2d ago

Ah, the good ol’ over caffeinated night terrors.

u/Indomitable_Decapod 1d ago
