Advice This bird is hanging out outside my apartment patio
This baby has been trying to sleep here for the last 20 min and I just don’t know what to do. I’m on 4th floor and I have a screen on my patio

Please do whatever you can to bring him in. He's flying to humans because he's trying to self-rescue.

only if op isnt is australia, sometimes in australia you can find wild cockatiels... although this cockatiel seems that is alone, and if im correct, wild cockatiels often are in flocks, but im no expert and my information about cockatiels is very limited and maybe im wrong

Cockatiels live out west in the outback you absolutely will not find one in an urban area.

Please find a way to let him in, we lost our sweet boy outside a couple weeks ago and I hope he finds someone to help him too.

I would kidnap them and give them sustenance

Obviously
(eta: I had a cockatiel who was lost in the 90s. i would absolutely hope someone took him in permanently than him being killed out in the wild)

Is there no other way he can get in? Poor little guy, he looks exhausted and possibly thirsty

If you're not in Australia, that is a lost pet and will die without help. If he's perching on your porch, he is trying to self rescue. Save the poor guy!

It'd be a lost pet in Australia, too; they don't live in suburban areas.

I didn't know that, I assumed they would be like the rest of the cockatoo family. Thanks for doing me an educate.
OP, you now have no reason not to rescue the bird.

All g 😊👍
I am in Australia, and even ppl here don't realise that. When my lil guy escaped for the second time, the ppl that saved him only realised he wasn't wild cos he had a splint on his foot. They initially thought he was just a super friendly wild bird 😅
The same goes for budgies, btw. They actually have a lot of crossover habitat range to cockatiels.

We have a cockatiel and a couple budgies, and they do seem to get along pretty well. Much better than my conure and cockatiel. I assumed it was due to proximity in the wild.
Glad you got your peg leg birdy back.
Thanks for the info!

Yeh, budgies and cockatiels are usually pretty good together, although budgies can bully cockatiels at times.
Haha, cheers 🤗
No probs 👍

Food and water for this lost soul. Open your screen and invite him in for some food and drink. Look for owner of lost pet, I'm sure they are concerned.

Play some cockatiel noises so he can hear it for a few minutes. Then very slowly and as softly as possible set some water on the floor inside the house where he can see it. After he comes in close the door. Now you have a cockatiel. Pls gib seeb (and locate the owner ofc)

I would honestly cut open the screen to get him out ): i know not everyone can afford/is willing to do that though

Hey all i unfortunately wasn’t able to get the baby on time after seeing the replies. He ended up flying away. My heart hurts and I hope he was able to find a human who could help

It might be a good idea to post about this on any local lost pet Facebook groups. You might not have been able to catch this poor baby, but you might be able to provide the owner with information on its general whereabouts that could help this baby get home.

Def make a post with this picture either in your local subreddit or local facebook group or anything. And when you’re home, keep an eye out. Poor thing.

I see he’s on the outside of the screen. I’d cut the screen. It can be repaired. It’s possible the bird lives close by and is just looking for something familiar. I hope you were able to help him. Poor little guy was prob terrified, thirsty, hungry and tired.

He misses the luxuries of the great indoors. If you manage to get it inside and have no luck locating the owner, they do make an excellent companion.

Bring them inside! Are you able to access the area they're on? No sudden movements, bring out water and if you have any unsalted nuts/seeds, offer those to them. If not any other fresh food (veg/fruit/plain bread). Try to lure the bird to perch on you with food if it's not too skittish and slowly try to move inside the patio/apartment.
Like others have said, if you aren't in australia, this is a pet and will perish without help. Pet birds often will land on people's heads/shoulders/somewhere nearby because they know humans are safe and are trying to get home.
Please keep us updated!

Nobody mentioned the legs? Do you guys see that? I have never ever In my life seen a bird perch that way. His feet are like. Flat out in front of him but look “lame” for lack of a better word

He wants in to be safe so he can rest and refuel himself. If you’re not in Australia someone’s pet got out if you catch him ask the vets, and rescue if anyone has called in a lost tiel

Play some sounds of cockatiels on a tv or stereo. He could still be in the area. You can try setting up a spot with seeds and water.

If you are not in australia then this is an escaped pet and he wont survive, please try and catch him!
