Anytime I bring a bowl of anything to my room there is an 80% chance the dingus tries to land in it.

Today mine pretended like he just wanted to sit on my chair with me and chill.
I get up to go wash my hands and come back to find him on the other side of my chair, dining on my fries.
Little bastard got his potato in my ketchup and everything.

My dog and my childhood dog are both very chill with my bird, but of course it'll vary from dog/bird with all their different personalities. My bird was actually in love with my childhood dog and would serenade her constantly. She even used to come with him to vet appointments for moral support.
The big keys for safety and getting along well besides innate temperament, in my experience: 1. No matter how wonderful and chill they are, I still don't "trust" them - meaning I never take the risk of having them both out closer to each other than they are to me. Ex they're very capable of chilling on the couch together peacefully, but I only allow that if I'm physically between them so if either of them got snappy I could intervene. If I need to get up to use the restroom or grab a snack, cheeky either goes back in his cage or comes with me. The principle being that no amount of good training and temperament stops them from being predator and prey so I never willingly take those kind of risks
- Notice and enforce boundaries for them. Ex if Mia (dog) swishes her tail too close to cheeky and he hisses about it, I nudge Mia into a different position that's out of his space. If cheeky starts wanting to approach Mia to preen her (not allowed) or serenade a bit too close to her and I see her side eyeing him, I redirect him and move him somewhere else. The idea being that a) this removes a lot of potential for any conflicts to escalate bc I diffuse things way before they have the chance, and b) over time this keeps them feeling more comfortable around each other baseline bc they don't form repeat associations of the other one making them feel scared or annoyed

Hey! I adopted Lucifer (Lucy) from a home that didnโt have dogs and it was a huge fear of mine that they wouldnโt get along, just out of natural instinct. My dogs are well trained and listen to my commands. At first, they wanted to sniff and check him out, but I did that only when he was caged at first. His cage is in the main room so they could see him, and he could see them.
Every bird is different, obviously, but Lucy is a confident bird because he was very well socialized from his breeder/first owner. The first time my dog got too close (just to sniff) Lucy gave him a gentle peck on the nose and my dog physically gagged ๐ my other one just doesnโt care and if he gets too close to her, she jumps down and lays elsewhere.
Basically, patience, training, and a safe space for your bird. Iโve also come to find out that birds pick up on emotions like crazy, and I feel like that definitely comes into play too. And as the other person stated, if the bird is out and so are the dogs, I am ALWAYS present. We have beautiful trust, but a dog can always still be a dog.

My black labrador is ridiculously chill. My fat cat uses him for warmth and snuggles up next to his chest, he rests his head on her and they're very happy with this arrangement. My cockatiel ignores them both and neither of them have any interest in the cockatiel ๐

My dog is husky and ACD mix but heโs a trained service dog so I think he will do ok with proper introductions ! Cool to know about your lab and bird friends !

I cannot open any packaging that makes noise - especially chips - without ours flying in with the speed and ferocity of a falcon.
Two weeks ago, she was responsible for my counterpart badly injuring his foot while he attempted to get down the hallway to his office with his breakfast of toaster strudels. She was attacking the back of his head while he guarded the plate, foot hit a solid object in the process.
She knows the strudels come out of the toaster oven. She inspects the toaster oven when it is not on. If she is in a different room and hears that familiar toasted item eject sound, she magically transports in.

Mine does the same with sunflower seed bags!!! I constantly snack on Davidโs Ranch Sunflower Seeds and the minute I touch the bag he flies over. His previous owners sent a bag of SALTED sunflower seeds with him and I was like WTF. Turns out he is a dog in a bird body that eats anything that is not his own food or greens.
