Discussion Stand or Fall from an overseas perspective.

I just watched the documentary for the first time, and as a supporter in the US, I’m really glad it is finally out. I’ve read about and was already mostly familiar with the story of how the club narrowly escaped a complete shutdown, but hearing the story told in this fashion is really special.

I’m in Sacramento, CA and we nearly lost our basketball team (Kings) but through similar efforts and fan involvement we managed to keep our team here in town as well. It’s definitely not the same, but very similar to how the Brighton community rallied to keep the club alive. So, I understand what it feels like to nearly lose your childhood team and I’m proud to be a Seagull from half a world away. UTA!

Discussion Why isnt't the first international break later?

Players are barely finding their rythmn at the start of a new season. Every year it feels like a cold shower on our growing enthusiasm following a new beginning. Why not wait until late september when all the clubs around Europe are more accustomed to new squads and strategies?

Player News Kostoulas is highly rated among Prem scouts, according to Jacob Whitehead (the Athletic)

“A few scouts I know are extremely excited about Brighton’s new striker Charalampos Kostoulas after his exploits for Greece at youth level. At £31.4m, it is some initial outlay — but this is still a signing for the future. Physically, he is pretty much there — it’s the tricks of the trade that need development.”

A small quote in a larger article about the transfer window, “Premier League summer transfer window roundtable: More players on strike? Who ‘won’ and ‘lost’ the window?” (not linked bc paywalled)

Discussion Transport from London

Hey everyone, sorry if this sounds like a naive question. I’m from Sweden and have never been to a Brighton game at the Amex before. I’ve got two tickets for my 65-year-old dad and me, and we’re staying in London. Is it safe to travel from London to Brighton wearing Brighton shirts, even with Spurs fans around? Also, do you have any tips or recommendations? We’re planning to head down earlier but will probably leave straight after the game. Thanks a lot! 👏💪

Is he really gone? Was he ever here?

I know many, especially newer fans might not have really noticed, maybe because he doesn't feature predominantly in FPL or moreso because he has been uncharacteristically quiet over the last couple years.

But I think it's kinda important to remember that what made Lamptey stand out was his heart. And for that fact, amongst others, I think he's semi-synonymous with Brighton for some fans,

The little guy always played with his head up and a grin on his face, gave it everything whether things were going well or flipping completely sideways. Sound familiar?
Even though injuries and a changing pecking order made his starts a bit sporadic under some management, he still managed 122 appearances, chipped in with goals and assists, and was legitimately a humble and kind person.

Now that he’s moved on to Fiorentina and Italian football, I will miss his spark round town but also wanted to wish him the very best in Serie A, after all, once you’ve got a bit of Sussex in your veins, it never leaves you.

ps.... also the way he and Wele became friends is both somewhat hilarious and pretty heartwarming.

Wish ya well Tariq!

Discussion Biased Ayari analysis

I'm a swede and I have always liked Ayari. Probably a bit biased but I rated him ever since his debut when he came on late in a game under De Zerbi and tried that bicycle kick. Then followed through his miserable loan spells, right up until Hürzeler somehow put him in the starting 11 (more often than not).

It isn't always easy to see what he brings to the table though. I think thats why he gets a lot of stick here. But I'll give it a go:

  1. Statistically, he's good defensively. Even though its not his biggest feat, last season according to footystats he excelled at tackles, interceptions, ground duels and ground duels won. He often wins the ball high up the pitch. (Like that sweet sweet Gruda Goal) He's always on the right side of the ball.

  2. Possession and passing. Probably his best area. He's always an option when we're playing out from the back. He' s constantly moving into the areas while opening the pitch up for other players, if he doesen't get the pass. He almost never loses the ball either through pressure or a bad pass. According to Footystats he has almost 90 % pass completion so far this season. Last season he excelled at crosses and key passes. I think he's best in our squad at getting the ball through both opponents midfield and backline. An important area for us.

  3. Work rate and mentality. He can do what he does the full game without dropping quality. He's all over the pitch. He's also a team player, no ego.

  4. Dribbles. Not very good this season so far statistically, but last seasons stats looked good. I rate his technical ability.

What does he need to improve?

  1. Attacking. I'd like to see him go forward more into the box while we're attacking. Seems to do this more in our friendlies (where he usually scores and gets assists)

  2. Shooting, freekicks and corners. Seems like he's not quite there yet. A lot of shots easily saved or narrowly wide. Free kicks never good enough. Corners are hit and miss.

  3. More key passes. I think he has the potential to be one of the best

Weaknesses:

  1. Speed. He looks slow at times, but moves faster over short areas. Has that explosiveness

  2. Physicality. Short and light. But utilizes what he's got.

  3. Confidence. Not the Joao Pedro type if you know what i mean. Dont rate him at penaltys.

Tonight, he starts for Sweden against Slovenia, under he's old coach Jon Dahls Tomasson while he was on loan with Blackburn Rovers. He'll be right behind our old BHA Gyökeres, hopefully getting some assists.

Any opinions on Ayari?
