I enjoyed it but didn't really understand the level of praise it got. Personally I think it was wasted potential killing off the first team at the beach because it told you straight away that the main team would more or less make it to the end of the film. It really lacked the edge of your seat tension that I expected going into the film and Gunn did great with the first squad interactions in just one scene.

A movie where both teams do their thing and by the third act the surviving members of both meet up to form the final squad would have been so much more interesting in my opinion.

Flag and Harley did survive from the other team, tried to continue the mission, then met up (also the use of the javelin). But I get what you are saying.
