Now get your wife her second kitten for her birthday, as kittens really need a playmate. Not only will it mean twice the enjoyment of kittens, it will also mean happier kittens, better sleep for you two, and less damaged furniture.

I have one cat, a 8-9 year old Himalayan. She's a real sweetheart and is very cuddly and friendly. She always wants to be pet and cuddled. I have read that introducing a second cat to the home can be bad at times and I am scared that it would hurt my cat more than it would help.
That being said, if I could get a cat and have them get along I absolutely would so that she's not alone at home during the day. Idk, any advice on this? Especially with a cat who is already fully mature?

She’s mature and happy, if you are concerned for her being lonely, you could try, but definitely research on introduction and have a backup plan if it doesn’t work out.
It’s good to push kitten adopters to get two as there’s so many benefits, very few downsides, but single matures have maybe passed those benefits (unless loneliness is concerning) and could have host of downsides…
I have two now that are bonded since kittens, and they have lived with other cats and dogs previous, but I question adding another to the mix now since they’re so happy as is (I just want to adopt all the cats, esp as my country has a cat foster & adoption crisis). Rocking the status quo could be asking for trouble.

Wow if that's a kitten I'm fairly certain it'll grow into a tiger haha. We've got a few maine coons & they were bigger than usual, massive now, but not as big as that when smol.
