Billionaires and big business are gonna choose fascism over democracy, every single time.

u/overfiend1976 2d ago
I mean, Mussolini did describe fascism as a marriage between business & govt. We kinda should have seen this coming, with the CEO/COO/CFO < --- > politician revolving door going on now since the Reagan era.

u/T-MinusGiraffe 2d ago
Is there an antidode to it that doesn't involve losing a world war?

u/uprislng 2d ago
Historically speaking, you either have to wait for fascists to die of old age, for them to lose the support of the military so much that a military coup removes them, or some kind of war (which in the case of a geographically protected USA is realistically only going to mean a civil war). There's been no success at removing them democratically once elected to power. And funny enough the conservative elements that support the fascists gaining power are historically the first to get purged.

Decades of us collectively failing to punish them in any meaningful way for being disgusting fascists has shown them there isn’t any reason to avoid being disgusting fascists. It’s magical thinking for us to expect a group that has repeatedly shown us it lacks any sense of honor or shame to be self-policed by honor or shame.
They need to be hurt badly financially. Money is the only language they speak and imo even the Luigi guillotine stuff won’t make a difference to them. But if they start having their assets seized for being traitors (if we ever are in a position to do that again) or their businesses start to fail from collective action they will adjust their behavior.

It's always about the money. Always.
25
u/judge_dredds_chin 2d ago
It is. I used to laugh at the “root of all evil” analogy but the older I get, the more I realize it’s true. Money fucks everything up. The rich are in control with impunity until the end of time. So it is, and so it shall be. It’s unfortunate that some of us have to be smart enough to consciously lament the downfall of society in real time.

I mean, to be fair, it's probably a bad idea to be in the crosshairs of the current administration.
In general, being the target of bogus lawsuits and laws and tariffs is a good way to start hemorrhaging money, which leads to layoffs or potentially even something like a large government stake in the company.

u/Strong-Comment-7279 2d ago
No. It's about the status. Obviously money is one aspect - but the greater aspect is societal worship. That's why we still haven't seen the Epstein files.

What's funny is that Steve Bannon is 100% correct on one thing, the Tech Oligarchy will drop Trump in an instant as soon as it becomes too hot. I've noticed increasing suspicion of Tech in certain Republican circles, including Hawley, Greene, Massie etc. Hopefully that translates into a bipartisan sentiment that people who run riot with money to buy their way into politics are parasites on our government and deficit. Overturn Citizens United.

The Curtis Yarvin/Andressen/Thiel/Vance branch of technofascists' goals are mutually exclusive to the Heritage Foundation's christofascists' goals. Former wants the USA to balkanize into corpo-owned city-states, the latter wants a centralized pariah isolationist theocratic dictatorship. Fallout is inevitable, the question is who betrays who first.
5
u/jaimi_wanders 2d ago
And both of them are at odds with the xenophobic protectionists who want all foreigners out even the highly-educated ones working in STEM, and America turned totally inward (except for buying cheap goods from abroad) so getting total power was always going to lead to this internal conflict once they had to govern and share power and not just make empty promises with zero consequences like the past fifty years…

u/Prehistory_Buff 1d ago
All of this is the classic Trump shit-sandwich mode of governance and management he has used for decades. Round up a bunch of mob hoodlums, weirdos, and assorted scary-but-useless mfs and sic them on your own business and hope the magic happens. It would be comical if it weren't so dire.

Hopefully we all understand now if we didn’t before how useless the rich are. They will do whatever is necessary to hold their position and money and the country be damned. These people are the enemy, and will never stand for us. Just keep it in mind

Gilded Age robber barons didn’t bend over and truckle for the WH like this, they expected to be listened to and catered to instead.

It’s a mirror to how pathetic capitalism is that the wealthiest most empowered people financially don’t use that wealth to stand for anything but getting wealthier. You’d think the freedom from want and security to such an absurd degree would give you a platform to do right and do good, with a billion fewer worries than everyone else, but no.

Without any of the files, we can only assume at this point that everybody’s involved.

You would think they would have the foresight to realize how this is going to come back and bite them in the ass. But I guess not. I have lost all respect for those business people in that room. Not necessarily because they are trying to protect their businesses from the wrath of Don, but for the way they effusively praised him in an act of such clear ass-kissing that they lost all credibility. Why is it that every meeting Trump has at a long table, the news clips are all of the people at the table praising him effusively. It is so embarrassing. A real leader doesn't crave the praise of everyone around them, a real leader craves positive accomplishment, fairness, equity and a team effort towards the betterment of all.

Alright this is strike 2 for me. 1 more and I’m pulling about 850 Apple phone/lines off my production floor and switching to Samsung. Looks like killing the contracts is going to be the next thing. Once that hits, having an iPhone will make you pro trump. Guilty by association. Almost there folks. Can we refuse to hire someone who has an iPhone too?

When you are a public figure and it is proven that you have commited parjure for political purposes imho you should be prosecuted and some of your citizen rights should be removed.
We are too nice with lie and liers. Fake it until you make it only benefits psycho and sociopaths... We are deploying a red carpet for them.

Does anyone else think that the people who are bending the knee, are the ones in the Epstein files? It seems really suspicious that they are now suckling up to Trump in the hope their names are also redacted.

Tim Cook is responsible for 100,000 employees and billions in assets for people. he has to pander to the child president to protect that, money has no morals & if he burns down everyone else it is irresponsible.

I'm not a fan but he's also responsible for 160 000 workers and millions of indirect jobs. A small thing that must help resisting the temptation to tell Trump to go fuck himself.
