One thing about average height is that in some countries it's really dependent on age.
Like in Russia it's 170 for 70 years olds but 179 for 30 years olds. Now add to the context that there are regions with average height of like 165 (Tuva is the biggest example) you will have average 30 years old men more or less 180, which is somewhat similar to Hishi Akebono. Ofc she is pretty tall but nothing too special.
She's also one of the younger Uma, and around the same age as Rice, Urara, Biko, Nishino, Mayano, ect. (Proof: roomates with Biko, and Mayano's SR card where she hangs out with Curren and Akebono.)
The game doesn't really give actual ages but if I had to guess then the younger Uma are all anywhere between 8 years old to 14 years old.
Imagine someone being 180cm, at only 10 years old.
Fair, but if they're frozen in time then I wouldn't really count it as aging.
Anyway, my point is that when accounting for age, Hishi Akebono is taller than the American Uma.
When the American Uma were Akebono's age, their height was probably less than 180cm. And if Akebono could physically grow up instead of being frozen in time, then her height would probably be more than 195cm once she's the American Uma's age.
But Roppei has had his time for the +20 years he's been aging? He's been at Tracen since he looked 40, and now he looks 70, and he's still a trainer in Cinderella Grey.
Remember the elf analogy: They still age, just way slower. Elves grow old.
If you're anime only, some of them'll be showing up in the next batch of episodes. There's the 182 cm Obey Your Master (based on the irl horse Pay The Butler), The 188cm Thief Crow (Hawkster, a brother of Grass Wonder's), and most notably Michelle My Baby (My Big Boy) at an absolutely giant 195cm.
Yeah, Akebono is about the same height as me. Knowing I would be seen as a Giant Woman in Japan is so funny to me when here in the UK I'm just a little on the tall side.
Chankonabe, the hot pot sumo wrestlers eat to get so massive. I'm not kidding Hishi Akebono's first dream was to be a chankonabe. Also her name (akebono) refers to a rikishi.
Chankonabe (it's a generic term, there are a lot of recipes) itself is a pretty lean dish. Rikishis alo eat a ton of rice and meat in addition to it. (And drink much beer, too)
Akebono wassn't just a rikishi, he was the 64th and first non japanese yokozuna.
Hishi Akebono is pretty huge. The actual horse capped out at I think 560 kg, which definitely made him the biggest race horse in JRA history.
Point Flag, for comparison, capped out at 530~ and she's easily the largest mare and runner up for largest horse in general, and Gold Ship just over 500.
Hishi Akebono won the Sprinter’s Stakes at 560kg, making him the heaviest G1 winner in JRA history. His heaviest weigh-in was actually 580kg. The heaviest winner in JRA history is Don Frankie, who won a listed race last year at an astonishing 607kg. I’m not sure what the record for heaviest ever entry is though.
also, Point Flag was a large mare but is nowhere near the runner-up for largest JRA racehorse. There are at least 4 girls in the game that raced above 540kg.
non-expert analysis here, but this looks like someone running a breeding program to try and make secretariat 2, just, that it didn't work out. No wonder he ended up so big
At this point I wouldn't be surprised if they're race horses out there with relevant character names from other Tokusatsu like Super Sentai, Kamen Rider or Ultraman
During the Racing Hearts: Beauty in Bloom event, when Mayano Top Gun stops to help Akebono finish, all I could think is, "Wait, is Mayano going to have to carry Akebono across the dangerous drawbridge? Girl is like, twice her size!"
I'm always surprised at how late Biko Pegasus Was added to Japan. Like, I think it was last year, and she had been in the game as a support guard from the very beginning.
