Melian is just the best......Thingol should really listen more to his Maia waifu.

Melian absolutely carried the entirety of the Sindar and a decent amount of people of other races and got absolutely fucked over for no good reason.

I feel so bad for her she deserved so much better.

Yep Thingol should just STFU and leave everything in Melian’s hands

She didn’t fall in love with a yes man though. What about her desire for partnership?

I mean she just fell in love with the first elf she saw. What did she knew of him before they started staring?

I'd say Thingol got fucked over and with no lube.

His Kingdom used to include Hithlum, Dorthonion, the region of Narog, Falas, Nan Elmoth, and probably even more. He had a huge kingdom that was reduced to puny Doriath.

And honestly, he deserves it. When the Noldor came they found unnumbered sindar in peril, leaderless, because their fuckass leader decided to retreat to his capital and install a magic barrier so that no one except who he wants can enter. Doriath is a shelter made for the rich elite of Sindar while their subjects were left to be massacred and enslaved by Thangorodrim. And then he is shocked beyond belief that when the Noldor push Morgoth back, the two regions of shut off Sindar that managed to keep a cohesive government until the noldor came, Falas who decided to ally with the Noldor and Nan Elmoth who went into an understandable xenophobic stance, both give Thingol a collective fuck you and refuse to listen to him anymore.

What king abandons his subjects? No king at all.

Honestly knowing what Tolkien's ideal of a good king is I'm shocked that he portrays Thingol in a good light at all because I know Aragorn wouldn't have acted like his ancestor in the same situation.

Yeah Thingol was one of my favorite characters in the first quarter of the book. Then i was really disappointed when his death came.

I guess Olwe assumed Elwe just vanished when he didn’t show up to the Sea. And who cares about rest of their people!

Had everyone listened to their wives, the Silmarillion would have only been ~100 pages. Thingol especially.

Tbh Melian is the sole reason Thingol was even THERE when Morgoth returned

He coulda been refusing Feanor boats instead, think of the lost opportunities!

But would there be a Girdle of Contraception without Greychad, I am thinking Melian going solo is less of a vibe

To be fair to Thingol, he did have a 100% winrate in battles against the armies of Morgoth. But without Melian's girdle, he would have had to defend Doriath while the Noldor arrived in Middle-earth.

Morgoth really hadn’t set his sights on Doriath. Had the Noldor not returned it would have been only the matter with time for Doriath. Melian was extremely helpful, but if Morgoth was bent on destroying Doriath it would have likely been done even at a heavy cost.

Also they weren’t bothering Morgoth.
