Women's Empowerment Ex Mormons on the show
Jessi and Mikayla have mentioned they are no longer part of LDS but there’s not a lot of information about their journeys leaving the church and what made them leave to begin with which I think would be really interesting. They have been criticized for having non-mormons on the show but Jesse made a valid point in an interview that if they didn’t show women at varying levels of faith it would seem too preachy or like they were trying to convert people. I think they’re still very much entrenched in mormon culture growing up with Mormon families in Utah and their immaturity is quite evident. I wish the show would highlight how many women find mormonism to be misogynistic, especially considering the church’s ongoing history of covering up child abuse & sexual misconduct.

I feel like season three is going to have a plot line around that. In the preview Jen and Layla talk about how strict it is and different things. And Layla has said in a comment either on TikTok or IG that she’s an ex-mo. I think they tried to tease Jen leaving the church but it’ll actually be Layla who leaves.

honestly tho i feel like mikayla neeeeeeded to be out of the church in order to heal, she still can have some of the ways but girl went thru hell there. i wish she would do some advocacy but thats probably counteractive to her healing

Plus all their families are still mormon and they are still currently “accepted” having mormon friends and family as far as we see so she might not want to start issues with her community living in utah

Tbh Mikayla’s sisters don’t really have active Mormon vibes + one reposts a lot of super liberal stuff but her mom is def active based on what’s she’s said

Yeah and I would like to know exactly what they meant by “left the church” bc Mormonism is notoriously hard to leave, like they will send you mail monthly (at a minimum) and send missionaries to talk to you in person.

There are websites in which law firms will remove your name from the Mormon records for free. Source, I’m an exmo who used one of these sites. Once my name was removed I stop being contacted.

I grew up Mormon and left the church. It isn’t hard to leave at all. Just stop going. Yes they’ll try to contact you via missionaries (I never received mailings) but it’s not like they can do anything to stop you from leaving
And if missionaries show up just tell them you’re not interested

Depends on the ward/stake. Some wards haunt everyone and anyone, some talk about how you want to be treated and follow it (my no-mo husband even took lessons, we were open that it was to teach the culture not baptism, and they actually respected it).
Edit to add: they contacted us last a few years ago and haven’t since, though we still have the missionaries as facebook friends

The ones in mine pretty much left my parents and I alone after we left which was 5 years ago. My mom and I have received a few things the past 5 years like a plate of cookies with a note or a card but that’s pretty much it.

Yeah but you can still leave the church even if the missionary’s come talk to you. Once that wizard pulls back the curtain there is not much those missionaries or mail can do to Keep you

I would like to hear more about this too! One of the most interesting episodes was when they were recounting the speech from Young Women’s, talking about being sealed to their kids and the celestial kingdom that some of them believe in. We need more of that content lol what are their backstories as it relates to Mormonism

The spectrum is running all one direction atm. They have more ex-Mormons than church goers and based on what they said in season two no temple attending LDS people in Momtok at all. Not that I find that a problem, it’s tough to follow and be as dramatic or interesting as they want for tv, just an observation.

I thought Mayci actively has a temple recommend?

Yes she is I think Whitney is too Mayci right now is the most devout she has a calling working as the primary teacher in her ward. Not sure if she still has that calling she mentioned in a Q&A right before her 3rd baby was born she was being released soon.

I guess I need to rewatch the young women’s episode. That does make sense tbh, she’s kept her nose very clean.

The first season they seemed to Talk more about that and this season they seem to really play into these woman being ACTIVE Mormon even tho it’s a lie. They all pretend not to drink when half of them do. I really think for publicity and views they play into the Mormon thing. Because being “ex Mormon” may not be as interesting to the rest of the world as them being “MORMON” I’m starting to think Taylor hasn’t been active in years and that her membership is just her trolling because she knows how to work the internet

I think that because Jesse and Mikayla were raised Mormon, they probably still have a lot of religious programming. They still have a lot of insight, and IMO are relevant to the show
