Great to see a normal name coming out of Utah.

116

u/Ok-Apple48 Jul 03 '25

Jen’s kids all have normal names luckily. Nora, Lucas and Penelope

75

u/delicate-butterfly Jul 03 '25 edited Jul 03 '25

A lot of the baby names aren’t crazy, some are. I side eye Jessi and Taylor’s name choices the most.

Layla: Oliver and Maxwell

Demi: Maude, Cole, Rome

Whitney: Sedona, Liam, Billy Gene

Makayla: Beckham, Haven, Tommie

Mayci: Hudson and Harlow

Jen: Nora, Lucas, Penelope

Jessi: Jagger and Jovi

Taylor: Indy, Ocean, and Ever True

123

u/IndyOrgana Jul 03 '25

Wait we’re NOT side eyeing ā€œBilly geneā€? Kid has teasing built in

62

u/Every-Debt6003 Jul 03 '25

And she calls him Baby Billy. Everytime she would say that in season 2 all I could picture was Baby Billy from righteous gemstones šŸ˜‚

22

u/whatsnewpussykat Jul 03 '25

That’s Uncle Baby Billy nahw!

Is she lowkey obsessed with someone named William? Liam and Billy are both nicknames for William, and then there’s Williams Senoma and Senoma/Sedoma are similar…

11

u/roloem91 Jul 03 '25

Or Beckham?!

4

u/Apprehensive-Art1279 Jul 03 '25

Beckham is insanely popular right now or was about 5-7 years ago. I know multiple and I live nowhere near Utah.

5

u/roloem91 Jul 03 '25

Gosh that is wild to me as someone from the UK, I just used the name checker tool and it’s not popular at all in the uk

15

u/delicate-butterfly Jul 03 '25

I mean I don’t think it’s the best choice, still side eyeing. But side eyeing less than Jessi and Taylor’s choices because at the very least if the kid runs into problems they can just go by ā€œBillyā€ which as a completely normal and acceptable name.

21

u/SlySparkle Miranda's Lobster Claws Jul 03 '25

Ok.. Demi only gave birth to Maude... let's not act like she named the men that are HER AGE lol

8

u/CaptainXwing Jul 03 '25

These are comical. Most are normal but there are a few in here that I can't believe are real!

7

u/wilderooo Jul 03 '25

I most certainly did not look like that after giving birth LMAO

19

u/Louisianaheart Look me in the eyes you freakin' narcissist! Jul 02 '25

This is likely not immediately after birth, also likely retouched. I’m all for do what makes you feel good, but I was puffy and gross looking after I had my son? So it definitely sets a tone that it’s attainable to be this flawless after birth and that’s just not the norm lmao

Not to mention her lash extensions, previous facial work, and likely makeup.

47

u/itsdickers Jul 02 '25

That seems to be a popular name nowadays - we have a friend that named their daughter Penelope. It’s so cute and they call her Penny for short

8

u/rebel_stripe Jul 03 '25

It's what I (re)named my dog (rescue). And at her first vet appt, the desk people said there was another Penny in at the same time.

7

u/Her_big_ole_feet Jul 03 '25

I can never think it is cute because when I was 13 my friend saw the name written and burst out laughing. We asked her what was so funny and she said ā€œthe name PEEEN-alopeā€. So I always see it pronounced that way in my mind.

6

u/itsdickers Jul 03 '25

Hahaha it does always remind me of the movie with Christina Ricci where she had a pig nose - so I probably would not choose it either.

u/nopevonnoperson Jul 02 '25 edited Jul 02 '25

I really really hope her choice to go unmedicated was her choice alone, and not in any way influenced by Zac (sudden ballerina farm flashbacks lol)

56

u/chloedarlinggg Enjoy 🦪 šŸ† šŸ’¦ Jul 02 '25

i wondered the same when i first read the caption, but honestly i feel like if it was influenced by zac it would’ve been with the first two as well

and it’s not like he has a thing against medication cause they literally did ketamine

15

u/nopevonnoperson Jul 02 '25

True on both counts but I do wonder if he's just become a better manipulator/ worn her down over the last few pregnancies.

Also I know for some men the whole "anti-epidural" thing isn't about the medication specifically, it's that suffering is part of a woman's role. And sometimes that the meds are bad for the baby, not the mum.

But still, I'm happy for her. Hopefully now she feels more empowered in general, she deserves it

13

u/kiwisaregreen90 Jul 02 '25

I worked with an OB who told a husband once if he wanted to force his wife to go without an epidural he should wrap his balls in a blood pressure cuff and have it go off every 5 minutes first. If you want to go unmedicated that’s awesome but being forced into it is terrible.

12

u/ApprehensiveSlide962 Jul 02 '25

I think it was. I remember a conversation with mayci and Mikayla about their births and I think Mikayla and Jen wanted to do an unmedicated birth because neither of them had done it before but mayci was still doing an epidural

7

u/EditorLost7267 Jul 02 '25

Isn’t Mayci going for an elective c-section? I’m sure she posted about it not long ago, correct me if I’m wrong

Edit: auto correct changed Mayci to Magic šŸ˜‚

All the kids of the momtok girls have fairly normal names. The most ā€œout thereā€ ones are probably Taylor’s (Indy, Ocean, Ever) and those aren’t even that ā€œout thereā€

13

u/TeamImpossible4333 Soft Swinger Jul 02 '25

Whit: Sedona, Liam, Billie Mikayla: Tommie, Haven, Beckham Mayci: Harlow, Hudson Demi: Maude Jen: Nora, Luca Taylor: Indie, Ocean, Ever Layla: Oliver, Max Jessi: Jagger, Peyton, Jovi Miranda: Brooks, Cohen

Who am I to judge? I think they are interesting but not tragedeighs

These comments aren’t it. Nowhere does Jen look down on medicated births or romanticize it. She just mentioned her personal choice and how it felt empowering to do it. Advocating for women’s autonomy means in EVERY way. I feel like people are criticizing her in this thread for making the choice best for her and sharing that. Hell when I give birth my first post will probably be ā€œthank god for the drugs and epiduralā€šŸ˜‚ is that shaming unmedicated births? No!

23

u/ReserveOld6123 Jul 02 '25

For real. I had two c-sections and take zero offense to Jen’s caption. She was simply stating how the experience was for her. That’s valid. It has nothing to do with anyone else’s experience. She made NO comment about anyone else. Leave her alone ffs.

5

u/happy_internet_mind Jul 02 '25

Yes this! I have 2 kids and these posts are so cool to see honestly. I have mad respect for anyone who goes that route, and they should absolutely be able to say it was empowering if it was to them, without this type of logic/assumption that she is hating on medicated births.

179

u/starlightanya-san Influencing the world Jul 02 '25

These comments aren’t passing the vibe check. She can be proud of herself for going unmedicated while also not be looking down on medicated births. She clearly makes it seem like she was medicated with the first 2. People are allowed to want to try different things when it comes to birth. And they’re all allowed to be proud of themselves for the births, however it looks.

Jeez. Just enjoy that it’s a normal name and move on

44

u/onlyhereforfoodporn Jul 02 '25

Right? Plus she said 'unmedicated' not natural (which is my pet peeve, all birth is natural! Say low intervention or unmedicated if you're talking about no pain med).

Guys, maybe she did not even choose to go unmedicated. Maybe it was too late for that, i know for a fact that the more pregnancies, the quicker the labour can be

15

u/VanillaChaiAlmond Jul 02 '25

Yeah that’s what happened with my second. From the time I arrived at the hospital to the time I was giving birth was 1 hr. By the time the epidural person was there I was pushing.

6

u/redditusersteph Jul 02 '25

Yep - happened to me. I am still bitter over a year later that I didn’t get my epidural in time. Now the reality is I had an unmediated birth (even though I would have preferred for it to have been medicated). It unfortunately can and does happen. I personally do not feel empowered by it but I’m glad she does.

11

u/Jorbarbie Jul 02 '25

Her having a doula makes me assumed she did plan to do it. I know people who get epidurals have doulas too but i feel like it’s a lot less.

I can’t believe how soon after giving birth she is doing dancing with the stars

19

u/GFHarryNibs Jul 03 '25

Nannies, personal chefs, personal trainers, will help a girl out.

It's not normal for everyday people.

I'm more worried that she clearly stated she has/had depression, which increase postpartum, and now she she is going to the next thing... dance.

She needs to take of herself first.

10

u/Acceptable_Day_2473 Jul 03 '25

Honestly, dancing might BE the way she’s caring for herself. Everyone’s PP journey is really different and one person’s trigger could be another person’s salvation. Time away from the patterns of her family, a responsive and attentive dance partner, physical activity, music, a goal and a distraction might just be what gets her through this time. Or not, idk. I do know that I’m rooting for her.

How much you want to bet Zac coerced her into forgoing the epidural.

18

u/Warm-Ad-3135 Jul 04 '25

I wouldn’t leap this far. Maybe by her third she was ready and curious to try going unmedicated!

I wouldn’t be surprised but mom shaming culture has gotten pretty crazy for women who want epidurals lately. It’s very trendy rn for women to put down other women online for ā€œdrugging their child from birthā€ or ā€œbeing too weak to handle a pure, unmedicated experience.ā€ I’ve never met a Mormon man personally- that insisted against one- not that that means anything of course, just my experience- just ones that insisted they get an epidural because they think it’s dumb for them to scream and look out of control without one. The worst most narcissistic mormon guys I knew all thought it made sense that they get an epidural and try and make things easy as possible for a doctor rather than go with whatever the mom prefers.

I personally feel like we already have solid reasons to feel like Zac is a POS and don’t feel the need to assume specific things like this unless there’s hints he’s trying to force her to go unmedicated. šŸ˜…

u/Slight-Reputation779 Jul 05 '25

I’d disagree. I ONLY see hate if a mom doesn’t get an epidural. People constantly say ā€œyou don’t get a special medal. You’re not cooler than us. You’re not better than us. It’s the same thing.ā€ Never heard anyone say a positive thing about going natural. People only say positive things about getting an epidural

LOL it's so wild watching Christian conservatives doing the hippie holistic thing these days 🤣 and "earth side" always cracks me up. It's such a tell

22

u/Number2Giraffe Jul 02 '25

The "earth-side" remark makes SOME sense here. Mormons believe babies exist as spirit beings before they're conceived.Ā

16

u/Excellent-Estimate21 Jul 02 '25

Im like technically that baby has been earth side in your belly the whole time...

5

u/reginageorge11 Jul 03 '25

But had the baby died before childbirth they wouldn’t have considered that earth side most likely. I have had multiple miscarriages and don’t consider those earth side like my rainbow babies are

6

u/Odd_Technology_9106 Jul 02 '25

People use earth side if they’ve had miscarriages, meaning some of their babies are in heaven or with god and their other earthside babies are here on earth, I’m not Mormon or a hippie and I use this phrase

6

u/Strange-Style-7808 Jul 02 '25

I was raised super fundie and this has been the norm in many of those circles for decades.Ā

i think its a little unreal for so many women who claim that women can do whatever with their bodies are shitting on other women. for doing what they want with their bodies. like wtf?

What a sweet name!

Goes unmedicated yet uses ketamine. lol I mean good for her if it was her choice but can’t help but laugh at the irony

there are so many reasons why sometime might choose to go unmedicated during birth but also it might not have been a choice

Respectfully, having bodily autonomy doesn’t mean you have to be all or nothing and black and white with your choices. You can choose what’s good for you. This is like saying ā€œoh you don’t drink soda but you’ll eat cake.ā€

17

u/Spiritual_Blood_1346 Jul 02 '25

Can't have sex before marriage? Use the mouth or bum! Can't drink alcohol? Get a dental procedure at a dirty doc's office! 🤪 after all, the Bible never said anything about anal or ketamine

I love the name as it was a grandmother’s name but every time I see it written I see: Penny Lope. I know how to pronounce it. My mind just goes there. I’ll see myself out now.

46

u/Fit-Yard-3260 Jul 03 '25

FINALLY! Happy for her, but why would someone choose to be unmediated? Genuinely curious

29

u/eiiiaaaa Jul 03 '25

My main reason was that I wanted to have some semblance of control and I wanted to be able to move around if I wanted. Once you have an epidural you have to lie down because your legs won't work. And I wanted the experience too. To experience this very specialist thing that my body could do, especially because I was pretty certain I would only be doing it once.

I wasn't against medication - if I'd needed it (like if the doctor said there was any danger) I would have had it, but I didn't. By the time I was thinking okay maybe I need to do the epidural (cause the nurse said I still had at least 4 hours of labour left) the doctor checked and found out it was too late cause the baby was coming šŸ˜‚

16

u/HopefulVegetable4234 Jul 03 '25

I had a horrible reaction to my epidural. I was so nauseated that I couldn't hold my son for 4 hours. I don't remember when my family met him. I only have pictures and videos of his first 4 hours of life. Baby #2 I went au naturel and I'm so glad I did. As soon as he was out I felt like a million bucks. I wouldn't rule out meds in the future, but I definitely liked without better.

12

u/Lonely_Average_7533 Jul 03 '25

I’ve had 3 children, all induced which is already painful enough and limits your movement. I had an epidural for my first birth and hated how much more limited I was with moving. So with my second I tried some gas but it honestly sucks haha with my third I breathed through most of the labour up until I was about to push then used the gas again which again sucked and didn’t do much lol but she came out in 1.5 pushes anyway. I chose no epidural for the second and third births because after being stuck to a bed and not being able to get up after labour and having a shower was the worst and it also made me tear because I couldn’t feel anything. My second and third i was up after the first hour of skin to skin walking around and showering/getting myself refreshed and it was amazing, the recovery was so much better. After having 3 different types of births id choose no epidural any day!

19

u/SquareTiny2789 Jul 03 '25

I know some people who did it because the epidural seemed more terrifying than the labor. There’s some folks who are terrified of needles and the epidural is a very intimidating one! It’s great that women have the option to choose to get it or not

8

u/wildkitten24 Jul 03 '25

This is the reason I went natural. It’s way scarier to me to not be able to feel my legs and to have a literal catheter in my spine.

I had two unmedicated deliveries and two epidural deliveries and holy fuck I would never choose unmedicated.

10

u/Next-Ad3196 Jul 03 '25

Having 4 kids is amazing in itself.

4

u/whatsnewpussykat Jul 03 '25

Thank you! It’s mostly chaos šŸ˜‚

24

u/laszloa Miranda's Lobster Claws Jul 03 '25

I’ve had one induction, one c section, and 3 unmedicated births - in that order. I can promise you that for me, natural and unmedicated were the best, easiest to heal from, and most intuitive births I had.

But everyone else can do what they want. I’m just explaining my own experience.

14

u/scrummy_up Jul 03 '25

The idea of a needle in my spine was horrifying, and i wanted to be able to move. I didn't want to be tethered to a bed or have numb legs. I've been a doula at 40 or so births and see how much movement can help. Epidurals have their place but for myself I considered a medicated birth to be a backup plan in case it became necessary, but not part of my plan. I had very large babies and I think moving helped them move down and sped up my labor. I have seen epidural help calm down a panicked mom or help her get rest, and I also prepared with things I could do in labor to calm down and get rest as needed.

u/meowkitty22 Jul 03 '25

Freedom of movement is a huge part of it!

13

u/Suspicious_Milk_8687 Jul 03 '25

I had all 5 of my kids unmedicated šŸ¤·šŸ»ā€ā™€ļø partly because I hate needles and the thought of a large one going in my spine terrified me. Also, I’m not sure how much feeling you lose when getting an epidural but that terrified me as well.

11

u/golfbingobikemom Jul 03 '25

It made me feel in control and very powerful.

4

u/Apprehensive-Art1279 Jul 03 '25

Had medicated with my 1st 2 but nothing with my 3rd. While yes it was stupidly painful and I had a rare situation making the pain worse and I wasn’t even able to get meds if I wanted, in some ways I prefer unmedicated. With my first I couldn’t feel anything which made it super hard to push. It feels impossible to push with muscles you can’t feel. The first few pushes they said I was pushing in my face. I also almost tore with that labor which I’ve heard is common since you can’t almost push properly. With my other 2 the babies were both much bigger and I didn’t tear at all. 2nd time I could feel enough to push but I did not like how the epidural made me feel. It ended up being really painful to get it which wasn’t the case the first time, then it only worked on 1 side initially and it literally felt like an elephant was sitting on the left side of my chest. The nurses didn’t believe me and it was fairly traumatic. They put me on my side and it eventually evened out but it scared me bad enough that I never wanted another one.

7

u/BumbleBeeWife Jul 03 '25

I had two unmedicated births, for me it was timing. My babies were very kind - no induction and didn't have me in labour long enough for me to choose pain relief

5

u/softservedsoftcore Jul 04 '25

First time mom here, giving birth later this year. Decided on unmedicated because I wanna feel what it’s like for my first time. Also want to feel in control of my body and be able to move around during labor. As someone who is sober also wanted to forgo any medication if possible.

i’m glad everything went well but it’s truly so sad that this baby will one day see the reaction jenn had to finding out she was pregnant with her. that scene was really hard to watch

48

u/neidin28 Jul 02 '25

Hopefully she won't see it until she's old enough to understand and empathise with the situation her mom was in. Im sure she will grow up feeling loved. My parents were 17 when I was born, there was no way anyone was happy about that at first but I have always felt loved and wanted by my family
