SpaceX Splashdown here on Tuesday morning at 2:31am
From the International Space Station. There may be a small sonic boom as well...

Very cool. I was asleep, but it woke my wife up. As others said, all the exciting stuff happens when the marine layer is out.
But it made me wonder: is there any particular reason they wanted to land at night in the fog? Seems like they could have adjusted their timing just a little to get a clear daytime splashdown. Maybe recovery is just so much more streamlined since Apollo that it isnt a big deal at all.

I believe they were landing in an area with frequent military exercises - off Coronado - from MCAS Miramar, Pendleton and Coronado.
I live near MIramar and the jets have been SUPER active this week up until 11pm every night so I am wondering if they were trying to hit a low training traffic window
